The HRB funded Irish Critical Care Clinical Research Centre (ICC CRC) was established in 2015 to support research being conducted by the Irish Critical Care Clinical Trials Group (ICC CTG).The ICC CTG is an investigator led trials group representing the ICU doctors, nurses and scientists in Ireland to facilitate the conduct of research to improve outcome in the critically ill in Ireland. two hour meeting in conjunction with the ICSI Annual Meeting in the AVIVA Stadium on Saturday 11th June 2016, and two Clinical Research Foundation Workshops on Sunday 12th & Monday 13th June 2016.

This will give you an excellent opportunity to learn from the inside how a CTG functions, what each unit needs to know, to network and keep up to speed with our current and future trials portfolio.

3 Prof Alistair Nichol Chair of Critical Care Medicine in University College Dublin, and Associate Professor, Australia New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre, Monash University, Australia. His roles include Management Committee Chair, Principal Investigator, Chief Investigator and Site Investigator on many international multi centre clinical trials. Professor Nichol is the current chair of the Irish Critical Clinical Trials Group He is currently collaborating with the Canadian, European, and Australian and New Zealand Clinical Trials Groups and is Deputy Chair of an International Severe Acute Respiratory Infection Consortium working party. In collaboration with the European Society of Critical Care Medicine Clinical Trials Group, Professor Nichol is a Work Package Leader of the Framework Program 7 project, which aims to meet and overcome the challenges associated with conducting research in the critically ill during pandemics. Dr Glenn Eastwood Dr Glenn Eastwood is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow with the ANZIC RC. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health at Deakin University. Dr Eastwood currently manages the Intensive Care research program at the Austin Hospital and is widely acknowledged as a leading research coordinator within the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society Clinical Trials Group (ANZICS CTG). 3/8

4 Dr Rachael Parke Rachael is the Nurse Senior Research Fellow in the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit at Auckland City Hospital. She was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 2014 and is currently leading a programme of research investigating the effects of fluid management following cardiac surgery. Rachael is the current Chairperson of the ANZICS Intensive Care Research Coordinators Interest Group and Secretary of the ANZICs Clinical Trials Group Executive Committee. Prof Steve Webb Senior Staff Specialist in Intensive Care Medicine at Royal Perth Hospital and a Clinical Professor in the School of Medicine and Pharmacology and the School of Population Health at the University of Western Australia and a Clinical Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University. He is the immediate past Chair of the ANZICS Clinical Trials Group. Dr Shay McGuinness Director of Research at the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand, and Clinical Director of the Air Ambulance Service, Auckland District Health Board. Dr McGuinness is the New Zealand representative on both the ANZIC RC's Advisory Board and the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society Clinical Trials Group (ANZICS CTG) Executive, and is also the Chair of the ANZICS CTG. 4/8

Rachael is the current Chairperson of the ANZICS Intensive Care Research Coordinators Interest Group and Secretary of the ANZICs Clinical Trials Group Executive Committee.

5 Dr Gail Carson Consultant in Infectious diseases with over a decade of experience in outbreak response at local, national & international level including viral hemorrhagic fevers, SARS, H5, ph1n1, anthrax in drug users & Hantaan virus. Five years with the Health Protection Agency of England. Dr Carson is the Clinical Coordinator for ISARIC & recently taken up a temporary position as the national lead to prepare a Clinical Research Network to respond to an emerging pathogen in the UK. Dr Rob Mac Sweeney Intensivist in the Regional Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. Rob began saving links to important critical care papers online, the site for which he soon renamed Critical Care Reviews and made available to the public. Since its release on October 15th 2009, Critical Care Reviews has been used by visitors from over 100 countries. Dr. Ciara Fahey Ciara is the clinical research project manager for the ICC CRC. Ciara obtained her Bsc in Biochemistry from NUIG, MSc in Medical Molecular Genetics from The University of Aberdeen, followed by her PhD from Trinity College Dublin studying the genetics of neuropsychiatric disorders. Previously she has held positions in The Centre for Applied Genomics (TCAG) Toronto, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute Cambridge and the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Trinity College Dublin. Kathy Brickell ICU Research Coordinator at St Vincent's University Hospital. Qualified as an RGN from St Vincents Hospital and completed her ICU training in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Kathy has over 15 years of ICU experience including clinical trials in addition to 4 years of retrieval medicine.
