The Advanced Function Presentation (AFP ) Resource Installer manages AFP color management, font, and data objects required for advanced color and monochrome output. Color applications can enhance effectiveness, increase revenue and customer retention, reward high-value clients, and increase response rates. These applications have become essential as the costs of digital color production have come down and the technical infrastructure to produce color applications has matured. 2 applications. This control is accomplished with Color Management Resources (CMRs). CMRs are industry-standard color-management objects that have been integrated into the open industry-standard AFP architecture. One key function of the AFP Resource Installer is to install and manage these color resources. The AFP Resource Installer consists of a consolidated interface for the installation and management of AFP color-management, font, and image object resources. The CMR installer manages files that include the color-management information required to render printed output with color fidelity. The font installer manages WorldType fonts for AFP print servers and clients and other OpenType and TrueType fonts in Microsoft Unicode format. The data object installer manages files that contain image-object data, such as JPEG and TIFF files. It allows you to install AFP resources to and from folders and directories on your local system, as well as on remote systems. AFP Resource Installer contains several specialized installers, one for each type of resource, using a common interface. CMR installer: The CMR installer manages files that include the color management information required to render printed output with color fidelity. These files are called color management resources (CMRs). A CMR is an architected resource that is used to carry all of the color management information required to render a document with color fidelity. CMRs are defined in the Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) architecture as the Color Management Object Content Architecture (CMOCA). In AFP environments, CMRs can be associated with document components so that they can be processed by print servers and printers. InfoPrint is a trademark of InfoPrint Solutions Company LLC. 2

3 The CMR installer allows you to perform these tasks: Install CMRs. Create CMRs from files containing color data when you install the CMRs. Verify that CMRs have been properly installed. View the properties of CMRs before or after they are installed. Map device-specific CMRs to generic CMRs so that a general description of the intended output can be replaced with the specific instructions for producing that output on a given presentation device. Search resource libraries for an installed CMR. Uninstall CMRs. Replicate changes in a resource library to other libraries, including remote libraries. Link the color space of an input device (such as a scanner or camera) to the color space of an output device (such as a printer). CMR types Each CMR carries a single type of color management resource. The following CMR types are defined: Color coversion (CC) CMRs are CMRs created from International Color Consortium profiles that tie a device-dependent color space to or from a device-independent color space. Tone transfer curve (TTC) CMRs are used to modify the values of a particular color component. Halftone (HT) CMRs are used to convert multi-bit data to halftone format. Data object installer: The data object installer manages files that contain a single type of presentation data (presentation text, vector graphics, or raster image) and all of the controls required to present the data. These files are called data objects. Data objects can be in GIF, IOCA, JFIF, JPEG2000, TIFF, PCL, PDF, or EPS format. You can include data objects in a page or overlay. The data object installer allows you to perform these tasks: Install data objects. Verify that data objects have been installed properly. View the properties of data objects before or after they are installed. Change the rendering intent of a data object, which modifies the final appearance of color data. Associate CMRs with a data object. Search resource libraries for an installed data object. Uninstall data objects. Replicate changes in a resource library or to other libraries, including remote libraries. Font installer: The font installer manages WorldType fonts for AFP print servers, WorldType fonts for AFP clients, and other OpenType and TrueType fonts in Microsoft Unicode format. The font installer allows you to perform these tasks: Install fonts. Verify that fonts have been installed properly. View the properties of fonts before or after they are installed. 4 Search for a character in a font by Unicode value or by code point. Uninstall fonts. Replicate changes in a resource library to other libraries, including remote libraries. Security, auditability, and control AFP Resource Installer uses the security and auditability features of the Microsoft Windows operating system. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
