List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)? (Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter None ) The overall objectives of all the Art degrees: ART-BA, BFA-FA, and BFA-VC, are to equip students with studio, critical thinking, and communication (written and oral) skills, enable heightened creativity and innovativeness, and encourage social responsibility in engaging the broader world. The new curriculum incorporates all these objectives in greater depth and breadth earlier in a student's career in the department. As a result, intermediate and advanced courses focus on individual investigations through individualized studio paths. GOAL 2: Learn to think critically to solve problems (course objectives 1,2,4). GOAL 3: Be able to work and learn both independently and collaboratively (course objectives 2,5). GOAL 5: Understand the diverse ways of thinking that underlie the search for knowledge in the arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences (course objectives 3,5). GOAL 6: Develop the intellectual curiosity, confidence, and engagement that will lead to lifelong learning (course objectives 1,2,3,4,5). GOAL 7: Develop the ability to integrate academic knowledge with experiences that extend the boundaries of the classroom (course objectives 1,2,3,4,5). Identify other units affected by the proposed changes: (Attach permission from the affected units. If no other unit is affected, enter None ) None Describe the rationale for the proposed program change(s): (Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.) The proposed, new curriculum offers a more in-depth, advanced Core of studio experiences than currently provided by our Foundations program. Content from Foundations is incorporated in the new Core and augmented with substantive, studio-specific skills and knowledge. The intermediate and advanced courses rely on the breadth and depth of the new Core and encourage students to identify and pursue individualized paths through the curricula, culminating in mature, fully developed BFA thesis exhibitions to cap off the degree programs. Program Requirements: (Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog. If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
