2 Concordat definition of HFE.. Catchpole (2010) Enhancing clinical performance through an understanding of the effects of teamwork, tasks, equipment, workspace, culture and organisation on human behaviour and abilities and application of that knowledge in clinical settings Better to use the IEA (2000) definition of Human Factors (Ergonomics) modified by Hignett (2014), 'Scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions [performance] among humans [patients and staff] and other elements of a [healthcare] system [with the vision of enhancing human experience in a collaborative, inclusive partnership]. HFE professionals apply theoretical principles, data and methods to design in order to optimise human well-being and overall system performance. [Approaches include the study of tasks, equipment, workspace, culture, teamwork and organisation in [clinical] care settings].

3 Inclusive Design Design of environments and products to be usable by people with the widest possible range of abilities to the greatest extent possible, operating within the widest possible range of situations (environments, conditions, circumstances)
