Barton Healthcare has provided MEP design services for numerous emergency services departments with services including trauma, decontamination and psychiatric evaluation/holding. We understand the design challenges of the MEP systems for emergency services departments and specifically consider the following: - MEP Systems for Flexibility and Phased Projects - Isolation of Air Distribution Systems for Patient and Staff Protection - Medical Gas/Vacuum Accessibility - Reliable Lighting and Power Systems
Barton Healthcare understands that phasing is an important part of healthcare renovation and expansion particularly for emergency services projects. MEP systems must be designed to serve the new/ renovated project requirements in a manner which supports phased installation and continuous operation of adjacent and contiguous spaces. We understand the specialized MEP requirements of these facilities as well as the significant role they play in emergency patient care and staff safety and efficiency. Barton Healthcare s market-centered and client-focused team is experienced with the unique challenges and requirements associated with emergency services projects in hospitals. Our team understands that the day-to-day clinical operations, including the safety and efficiency of staff, are key drivers in any clinical services project. Projects to expand or renovate existing emergency departments drive an even higher need for precision and a well-planned design approach. During the design process, our team focuses on the overall MEP infrastructure that is required to support the project. We focus on understanding the clinical needs and concerns and work to support the project goals through an MEP design that is integrated with the entire project team. Additionally, we work closely with the owner and remainder of the design and construction team to develop an MEP design that meshes with the construction and occupancy phasing approach. It is critical that the MEP systems be designed to support the continuous operation of the department with minimal disruption or downtime to critical systems. If you are planning an emergency services project, you can be confident that Barton Healthcare provides the expertise and project experience to develop MEP system solutions that meet or exceed regulatory requirements and support the overall project delivery approach. Barton Healthcare s team works diligently to develop MEP design solutions that effectively support the hospital s mission to provide safe and efficient care to patients.
Ephrata Community Hospital Ephrata, PA Emergency Department 18,000 sq. ft. $6 million Projected December 2013 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for an approximate 10,000 square-foot addition and 8,000 square feet of renovations to expand and modify operations in the emergency department at Ephrata Community Hospital. The project included 24 treatment bays, including dedicated isolation, bariatric and resuscitation bays. The expanded department included upgraded psychiatric holding rooms, dedicated fast track waiting and new ambulance and ambulatory entrances. A new two-bay ambulance garage with support space replaced the existing area displaced for the addition. In order to support the expansion, Barton Healthcare also designed upgrades to the facility s central plant to increase chiller and boiler capacity. The hospital provides preventative services, primary care, diagnostic services, acute care, and rehabilitation services with 122 beds.
Penn State Hershey Medical Center Hershey, PA Emergency Department 21,200 sq. ft. $4.7 million July 2009 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for additions and renovations to the emergency department at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. The 9,200 square-foot addition included a mechanical room on the basement level, as well as 2,000 square feet of renovations on the first floor, and a 12,000 square-foot shell on the basement level of the addition. MEP services included four-pipe heating/cooling units, new air handler and associated air distribution, general exhaust systems, relocation of an MRI cryogen vent, new emergency feeders from the hospital s South Addition, nurse call, general plumbing and medical gas systems.
Chambersburg Hospital Chambersburg, PA Emergency Department and Lab Expansion 27,000 sq. ft. $8.7 million October 2005 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for 27,000 square feet of phased renovations and additions to the emergency and lab departments at Chambersburg Hospital. The project included a new penthouse which housed two air handling units to serve the emergency department and lab. The units replaced existing systems and required detailed coordination during design and construction to minimize system downtime. Barton also designed upgrades for the campus s normal and emergency distribution including the installation of underground duct banks around the perimeter of the campus.
Memorial Hospital York, PA Emergency Department 12,000 sq. ft. $2.7 million June 2009 Barton Healthcare provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for the expansion and renovation to the existing emergency department. The 12,000 square-foot project included 3 triage rooms, a 5-bed fast track treatment area, 17 exam/treatment rooms, 1 isolation treatment room, 2 secure holding treatment rooms, blood draw area and support space for the emergency department. The project was constructed in multiple phase, maintaining continuous operation of the department and services throughout the project.
