As with individuals, businesses are not immune to the ramifications of such changes. Today s corporate environment is characterized by high degrees of complexity, competitiveness and uncertainty, leading to a form of a survival-of-the-fittest setting. This, in turn, dictated the evolution of a new breed of business professionals who are capable of promptly addressing challenges and intelligently seizing opportunities. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is an effective means of providing professionals who have a business or non-business background with the comprehensive body of knowledge and skills they need as they move to assume managerial positions. Institutional accreditation is granted by Middle States for a period of 10 years, with periodic review. AUC s most recent reaccreditation was granted by the MSCHE commission on June 26, The accreditation status was reaffirmed subsequent to AUC s institutional self-study, which involved a visit by a team of peers from Middle States and consideration by the MSCHE board. In Egypt, AUC works with the Egyptian government within the 1975 protocol framework, which is based on the 1962 Cultural Relations Agreement between the Egyptian and U.S. governments. In the United States, AUC is licensed to grant degrees and is incorporated by the State of Delaware, United States of America. The School of Business is among 1 percent of business schools worldwide that are triplecrown accredited. By acquiring accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2006 as well as the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) in 2014, the school has become one of only 70 business schools worldwide out of nearly 14,000 as well as the first in the Middle East and third in Africa, to achieve triple-crown accreditation. European Quality Improvement System In 2014, the School of Business was accredited by EQUIS. A high level of academic quality, professional relevance, innovation and internationalization is required to achieve EQUIS accreditation. Admission to the MBA program is competitive and limited. Criteria for admission include: A minimum GMAT score of 550 English-language proficiency (University graduate admission requirements apply) A minimum of three years of professional experience An acceptable Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree To earn an MBA degree, a minimum of 39 and a maximum of 48 credit hours are required. The exact number of credit hours will be determined according to the educational background of each candidate. MBA Concentrations Students must take at least three courses, with a minimum of nine credit hours. Students may choose one of the following concentrations: Finance Leadership and Human Resource Management Management of Information Systems Marketing Operations Management Construction Industry After enrolling in the MBA program at AUC and with the start of my second semester, I have finally begun to understand the decisions taken by upper management at the company I work for. Moreover, I have developed an appreciation for them and backed them up. My ability to take part in giving suggestions and coming up with my own initiatives within Aramex has also been enhanced, easily bridging my education with real life. It is very applicable. 9 Extracurricular Activities MBA Debate Meet the CEO Launched in Fall 2010, the MBA Debate is an open forum that seeks to advance the skills of MBA students by linking their academic experience with the real world. This is done through the introduction of top-caliber speakers who debate a special topic from different angles, followed by open-ended interaction between the speakers, MBA students and faculty members. Meet the CEO is a flagship event launched by the School of Business in 2010, coinciding with the school s first graduate honors assembly. Founded by the school's dean, Sherif Kamel, the lecture series provides undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, with the unique opportunity to listen to and interact with leading figures in business and government. The series aims to enhance the exposure of students and provide them with opportunities to learn from practical work-life experiences. The first guest speaker in the series was Ayman Abdellatif, School of Business alumnus and general manager at Microsoft Egypt. AUC s MBA program has thus far turned out to be more than I expected. I joined the program with the intention of broadening my understanding of the business world and to acquire a set of MBA Exchange Programs AUC's School of Business has established exchange programs with renowned international schools. The exchange program entails that students pay for their credit work at AUC, as well as transportation and accommodation. The program broadens participants international exposure and provides them with a unique multicultural learning experience. The program is managed in collaboration with the International Programs Office, allowing students to travel abroad for one semester to one of the following universities that have an agreement with AUC: 1. Halfway through the program, however, one realizes the innumerable benefits one can get out of the AUC MBA experience. For example, I myself have found the level of interactive activities invaluable in that it places students in real-life situations where one seeks to establish harmony among diverse groups with different individual backgrounds in order to meet and exceed requirements. Such interactions help structure and integrate the leadership qualities into each individual s natural personality and character. The program also dictates a certain professional approach to learning, whereby one systematically develops important business skills like time management, business communication, criteria setting and goal identification. While I did find myself embarking on the important business skills I set out to understand, I also delved deeper into the craft, acquiring a more thorough and pragmatic understanding in areas such as management, finance, leadership and entrepreneurship.
