The American University in Cairo (AUC) was founded in 1919 by Americans devoted to education and community service in the Middle East. Today, AUC is the region s premier English-language University an essential contributor to the social, political and cultural life of the Arab world. In 2014, the school received accreditation for its MBA and Executive MBA programs by the London-based Association of MBAs (AMBA). Only 2 percent of MBA programs worldwide are AMBA-accredited. School of Business The School of Business was launched in 2009 as part of a restructuring of the former school of Business, and Communication (BEC), established in AUC s School of Business is recognized as the top private business school in Egypt and one of the top in the Arab world and Africa. The school offers four undergraduate programs: Bachelor of Arts in economics, accounting, business administration and business administration with a concentration in the management of information and communication technology. It also offers five graduate programs: Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in economics, Master of Arts in economics in international development and Master of Science in finance. In 2013, the school launched its globally oriented Executive Master of Business Administration program, in partnership with the Kellogg School of Management, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Center for Creative Leadership. AUC s School of Business programs are delivered in ways that allow students to enjoy a learning experience that extends beyond the classroom and includes exchanges with top international schools, business plan competitions, case-study writing, internships and student projects. The School pays particular attention to entrepreneurship in its academic and non academic activities. Accreditation Since 2006, the school has been accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB) one of only 5 percent of all business schools in the world to receive such accreditation. Global Rankings In the Eduniversal rankings, AUC s School of Business was ranked as the second in Africa and among the top 200 worldwide. In 2012, the school was listed by Eduniversal as one of 100 business schools with major international influence, and in 2013, it was rated as the 46th best business school worldwide. In addition, three graduate programs at AUC s School of Business Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in economics and Master of Arts in economics in international development have been ranked number one in Africa, according to the Eduniversal ranking of top master s programs. The MBA program was ranked by Forbes Middle East in February 2012 as the first among similar programs in 37 private universities in the Arab world. It was also ranked second in the QS Global World s Top 200 Business Schools Report in the Emerging Global category of business schools in terms of employer recognition in the Middle East and Africa region. In addition, the Master of Science in finance and Bachelor of Business Administration finance concentration received the Chartered Financial Analyst University Recognition in In the executive education field, AUC s School of Business has been ranked 70th by the Financial Times for open executive education programs in The School of Business is among the %1 of business schools worldwide to be Triple Crown accredited. By acquiring the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2006 and re-accredited in 2011, the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) both in 2014, the school has become one of only 70 business schools worldwide out of nearly 14,000 as well as the first in the Middle East and third in Africa, to achieve triple-crown accreditation. In 2014, the entire school received accreditation by European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS). 3 Program Overview AUC Tahrir Square Doing Business in The Middle East Doing Business in the Middle East (DBiME) is a comprehensive weeklong program at The American University in Cairo that exposes participants to both corporate and academic perspectives of current issues in the region. This program is offered to graduate students from business schools in different parts of the world who seek firsthand experience in this growing, diversified and promising region. DBiME is useful to students enrolled in the following programs: Master of Business Administration, Executive Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in finance and Master of Arts in economics. 6 Site Visits DBiME Site Visits Cairo city Egyptian Junior Business Association The Egyptian Junior Business Association (EJB) was founded in 1999 by a group of young business executives and entrepreneurs. A year later, the association brought together a network of 600 prominent members, aged 25 to 45 years, who represented various business sectors, allowing more than 290,000 job opportunities. EJB is founded on vision, hope and drive to achieve a sustainable business environment in Egypt. Today, the association stands as one of Egypt s most efficient and competent business associations. EJB is based in Cairo, with expanded reach in Alexandria and the Delta area

7 Smart Village American Chamber of Commerce The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) was established in October AmCham s goals include creating a friendly business environment by facilitating communication between business leaders, as well as providing a network for sharing business information about Egypt and addressing common problems. It also represents the views of U.S. businesses in Egypt to public and private interests in the United States and establishes a line of communication between businesses and the Egyptian government, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the business environment in Egypt. Smart Village Smart Village spreads across 3 million square meters in Cairo s west suburb and stands as Egypt s prime communication and information technology cluster and business park. Smart Village was launched in 2003 as the first fully operational technology cluster and business park in Egypt that accommodates multinational and local companies, governmental and financial authorities and organizations, as well as educational institutions and research and development centers - all of which share the sophisticated state-of-the-art infrastructure, upto-date facility management and a full range of business and recreational services. By the end of 2009, Smart Village had hosted more than 28,000 professionals from more than 120 companies. With the growing number of new buildings and companies joining Smart Village, the park is expected to host more than 500 companies and more than 100,000 employees in Egyptian Competition Authority The Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) was established a few months after parliament passed the Anti-Monopoly and Fair Competition Act (Law 3 of 2005), which bans monopolistic practices. ECA promotes a competitive culture, as well as creates, develops and maintains the principles of free competition through monitoring all business practices in the Egyptian market to ensure the economic efficiency of products, which will affect consumers and the national economy in general. It also aims to promote competition and an all-round healthy business environment. It is the first-of-its-kind in the nation s history as, until recently, the public sector had monopolies in most industries. Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage Egypt s heritage is of worldwide interest and importance due to the fact that it extends over a period of more than 5,000 years. This wealth in archaeological sites, architecture, arts, folklore and natural beauty needs to be accurately and purposefully documented. It was, therefore, crucial to establish the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage, which is affiliated with Bibliotheca Alexandrina and supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. CULTNAT s mandate is to document the various aspects of Egypt s tangible and intangible cultural heritage, as well as its natural heritage. The center also aims at increasing public awareness of Egypt s heritage using all available media, as well as building the capacities of conservation and documentation professionals. 8 Egyptian Exchange General Authority for Investment and Free Zones The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) is one of the oldest stock markets established in the Middle East. EGX s origins date back to 1883 when the Alexandria Stock Exchange was established, followed by the Cairo Stock Exchange in EGX s mission is to operate and develop a high-quality market for the benefit of Egyptian and international clients. EGX serves and empowers its customers by providing topnotch market technology, innovative products, as well as fair and transparent and efficient markets. The EGX system of values have a common denomination of ethics practiced with all its stakeholders, customers, members, issuers, managers, employees, regulators, as well as international and local investment communities. The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) is the principal governmental authority concerned with regulating and facilitating investment, and stands ready to assist investors worldwide. GAFI broadened its scope from the traditional regulatory framework into a more effective and proactive investment promotion agency through its research, market intelligence and investor relations bodies. GAFI also represents Egypt s sole one-stop-shop for investment, which aims at easing the way for investors worldwide to take advantage of the opportunities in Egypt s promising emerging market. 10 AUC New Cairo Travel and Accommodation AUC s Travel Office can arrange your flight details, tours before or after the program or alternative accommodation.
