1 10 th International Conference RSHM Network of Schools Colégio de Nossa Senhora do Rosário 27 th June to 2 nd July 2009, Porto, Portugal give yourself to CHALLENGE

2 introduction Dear s and Colleagues in Mission, It is my great pleasure to welcome all of you for the 10th International Network of Schools Conference, here, in Colégio de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Porto. Give Yourself to Challenge, the theme of our Meeting, transmits quite well the Spirit that moves all of us in our schools and inside the Network. Our Great Challenge is the permanent motivation to go further and to dedicate the best of us to keep the Flame alive the Spirit of Faith and Zeal of Jean Gailhac and Mère St. Jean in order that All May Have Life, mainly those with whom we share our lives, especially the children and youngsters around the world that we have the responsibility to educate. The Jubilee of the 200 years Birthday of the Foundress, the 160 years of the Foundation of RSHM Institute and the 10th Anniversary of our Network are joyful occasions for all of us and renewed appeals to strengthen bonds that connect us: sharing our Mission and Vision and stimulating creativity and enthusiasm in each other to keep on giving answers to the challenges of the global community in which we live together. It is also very exciting to host a group of our students, participating for the first time in these Meetings. They are constantly the focus of our attention and action in each of our schools and so it is completely justified to involve them into this dynamics. I would like to thank to all those participating in the Meeting: to the delegates of the schools, to the speakers, to the Director of our Network, Sr. Anne Marie Hill, to our Provincial Council, to our Provincial Superior, Sr. Teresa Nogueira and to our General Superior, Sr. Terezinha Cecchim. Thank you for your presence and for the unconditional support that you all gave us and that made this Meeting possible. I hope the Conference meets everyone s expectations and that it allows us to get closer to each other and to become more capable of fulfilling our common Mission. May God bless our work and illuminate our minds, spirits and hearts to live and share the plenitude of His love. With gratitude, João Trigo Headmaster P3

26 Short History at the 10 th Anniversary RSHM International Network of Schools Conferences In 1999, 150 th anniversary of the foundation of the RSHM Institute, the first meeting of the Heads of RSHM schools worldwide took place in the Mother House in Béziers, France. In February 2000, the EAP published a Goals and Criteria for the RSHM Schools booklet, including a range of criteria to measure the effectiveness with which the spirit and mission of the RSHM are sustained in each schools. During the same year, Sr. Anne Marie was nominated Director of the EAP Network of Schools by the Provincial Council and an Implementation Committee was introduced in each school, having as its principal responsibility the promotion and implementation of the Goals and Criteria within the school. In 2000, the Eastern American Province decided to invite the 6 Marymount Schools to a yearly meeting to share the progress made on the Goals and Criteria, to develop training together and to share experiences. The Head and IC members of each school participated in this meeting, which took place at Marymount International School, London, between 28th and 30th June. In 2003, by Sr. Anne Marie s invitation, Colégio Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Porto, participated in the Meeting in Béziers.
