It is founded on an analysis of the decisions and behaviour of people in certain capacities, as consumers, citizens and members of organisations. It is also about the consequence of these decisions for individual units, such as firms, and for the society as a whole. As one of the human or decision sciences, Economics provides students with an understanding and a method of thinking about the actions of individuals, firms and governments. The focus of a programme of postgraduate study in Economics is on the application of theory to important and current issues in Public Policy and Business. Practice of economic analysis provides skills and understanding for: evaluating information; formulating, analysing and solving problems; data sourcing; and using information technology. The programme offers a broad understanding of all the important functions of an organisation: accounting, finance, human resources, IT, marketing, and operations. The programme is more than just a collection of disciplines, however. General managers need to integrate different organisation functions. This requires leadership, entrepreneurship, the ability to reflect on and implement strategy, and the ability to work with different people of different temperaments and different professional and personal backgrounds. Our MBA programme does this through a mixture of coursework, lectures, individual and group projects, and role-playing. Students pursue courses in the following subject groupings in each semester: Year 1, Semester 1: Accounting, Finance and Information Systems; Business Economics; Management & Marketing. In addition students will be required to submit an Interdisciplinary Project prior to the commencement of Semester 2. Year 1, Semester 2: Accounting, Finance and Information Systems; Business Economics; Management & Marketing. Year 2, Semester 3: Accounting, Finance and Information Systems; Business Economics; Management & Marketing. In addition students will be required to submit a major Interdisciplinary Project amounting to 4 units prior to the commencement of Semester 4. Year 2, Semester 4: Accounting, Finance and Information Systems; Business Economics, Management & Marketing. Two Years part-time over two calendar years. Each calendar year consists of two semesters.
