ANU College of Law ANU law professional development courses allow the opportunity to build, expand or update your understanding of law. 11 Advocate Dr Anne Gallagher AO Master of International Law 1992 A former Special Adviser to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Dr Gallagher is considered an expert in the development of international law and policy on human trafficking. Recipient of the Anti-Slavery Australian Freedom Award 2011, and an Officer of the Order of Australia. Economist Arjuna Mohottala Master of International and Development Economics 2013 and current PhD candidate in Economics Senior Economist at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and currently undertaking a PhD in Economics at the Crawford School of Public Policy. Arjuna Mohottala has been actively involved in the student experience at ANU; as Treasurer (2013) and President (2014) of the Postgraduate and Research Students Association. Entrepreneur Thérèse Rein Bachelor of Arts 1980, Master of Psychology (qualifying degree) 1981 Managing Director of Ingeus Ltd, an international business that now spans ten countries and has helped hundreds of thousands of people experiencing disability or social disadvantage to find work. Policymaker Dr Mari Elka Pangestu Bachelor of Economics (Honours) 1979, Master of Economics 1981 The first female Chinese-Indonesian to hold a cabinet position in Indonesia, Dr Mari Elka Pangestu is globally recognised as a highly effective public speaker and minister. Currently working as a Professor of International Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, and on the Board of Directors of the Centre of Strategic and International Studies, Indonesia s leading think tank. Politician Thomas Kaydor Master of Public Policy 2014 Appointed as the Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration of Liberia by the President of Liberia two weeks before graduation. 14 WHAT CAN I STUDY? Postgraduate coursework results in the awarding of a graduate certificate, a graduate diploma or a Master degree. Some postgraduate coursework programs may also involve a research component, where students work with the assistance of supervisors on a more substantial project. > > Graduate Certificate: approximately 24 units, or six months of full-time study > > Graduate Diploma: approximately units, or one year of full-time study > > Masters: approximately 72 units, or two years of fulltime study > > Masters (Advanced): approximately 72 units, or two years of full-time study. Includes a 24 unit equivalent supervised sub-thesis. Admission to a postgraduate coursework program requires the completion of a Bachelor (or undergraduate) degree. Some programs may require the completion of an Honours degree (at upper second class level or above) or study in a cognate discipline. Refer to the admission requirements outlined in the Postgraduate Coursework Programs entries (see pages 18 to 49). Key terms Course: A subject that you study in your degree (for example, an English course). Other universities might use this to describe the degree, whereas ANU uses program to describe degrees. Postgraduate: A postgraduate student is anyone who has already completed a Bachelor degree and enrols in further study. Program: A University-approved structured sequence of study, undertaken in one or more academic colleges of the University, normally leading to the award of a degree, diploma or certificate. 15 HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? Our postgraduate coursework programs at ANU can take between six months and two years to complete if studied full-time, depending on the level of program studied. A two year Master program if studied full-time will usually comprise of four semesters of study. Part-time study is generally represented as double the duration of full-time study. A number of courses within degree programs are offered in non-standard sessions: Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. Once you receive an offer from ANU, you will be automatically assessed and, if eligible, awarded credit. > > If you have an undergraduate degree in a related field, you could be eligible for up to six months credit (24 units) > > If you have an undergraduate degree with honours in a related field OR a postgraduate qualification in a related field, you could be eligible for up to twelve months credit (48 units) > > Credit cannot be awarded for programs of one year duration. The Certificate program is designed to articulate into a Master program for students who wish to continue their advanced studies.
