11 Information for international students Application Fee All online applications, excluding Higher Degree by Research applications (Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy), attract a non-refundable application fee of A$75. All paper applications will cost A$150. Your application will not be assessed until the application fee has been received. You may pay the fee with a credit card (Master card or Visa only). If this option is not available to you for payment you may send a Bank draft (international cheque) made out in Australian dollars to The Australian National University. Foreign currency cheques will not be accepted. 1. s Not Offered If the University is unable to offer a for which you have paid tuition fees or a tuition deposit, those fees or deposit will be repaid to you in full. 2. General Information on the Calculation of Tuition Fees 2.1 International Student fees listed in this schedule are indicative only and are meant to be a guide to the approximate cost of the in which you enrol. The actual tuition fee will be determined by the courses in which you enrol as part of your. Each course (i.e. subject or class) is made up of units. A typical course is made up of six units. You can find the exact fee for each course at Tuition fees are applicable for a calendar year. If you begin a that goes beyond a calendar year (e.g. a three semester year or Summer Session (January March) and the tuition fee rises in the new calendar year, you will be liable for additional costs. 2.3 International Student Fees are set at a per unit level. The 2015 cost to you for a normal 6 unit course will therefore range between A$3,576 for most undergraduate Arts courses (an annual cost of A$28,608, assuming you only take the standard 8 Arts courses a year), to A$4,146 for most undergraduate Science or Engineering courses (an annual cost of A$33, assuming you only take undergraduate Science or Engineering courses). 2.4 Award s at ANU have a lot of flexibility and students are encouraged to take courses in other areas. You can also study in a wide range of combined s. Remember that you may be charged at a different rate depending on your actual course enrolment. For example, even if you are enrolled in a BA, you may choose to study Economics because it sits under the College of Business and Economics and you will therefore be charged A$4,146 for each Economics course you take even though most of your undergraduate Arts courses will be charged at A$33,168 each. 2.5 International Student Fees are set each year and the University expects to publish the tuition fees for the following calendar year by no later than October of the previous year. You should check each year to see whether there has been a change in fees for your. 2.6 If your fees are being paid by a sponsorship or scholarship which ends before your is completed, you will become personally liable for paying the tuition fees for the remainder of your. 2.7 While most students are enrolled in two standard semesters (First and Second semester) or four non-standard sessions (Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring), it is possible that coursework students may be enrolled in up to six sessions and receive an invoice for each session. The invoice schedule is normally Summer January, February and March First Semester February/March Autumn April, May and June Winter July, August and September Second Semester July/August Spring October, November and December These dates should be seen as a guide only. 2.8 You should consult the website for any enrolment and administrative procedures at students.anu.edu.au/fees and for information about payment dates, fees and related information you should consult the fees website at students.anu.edu.au/fees 2.9 Every effort has been made to provide you with an accurate list of s. The University retains the right to amend availability, structure and content as necessary. 3. Fee Information for Undergraduate & Graduate Coursework Students 3.1 The indicative annual tuition fees stated in this schedule are published for your guidance only and are based on you taking the normal annual (two semester) full-time enrolment of 48 units entirely in the discipline area of your degree: i.e. only science courses for a BSc or only Arts courses for a BA. For undergraduate students the 48 units (normally 24 units are taken each semester) are usually made up of 8 courses, each of six units. Graduate coursework students should refer to the schedule for the unit value of s. 3.2 If you take more than 48 units in a year, you will pay more than the indicative annual tuition fee. If you take less than the standard full-time load, you will pay less (unless you are enrolled in a based fee). The same may happen if you take courses from another discipline area as part of your award. 3.3 A deposit for a must be paid before an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (e-coe) can be issued, unless the fees are being paid on your behalf by a sponsor or you hold a scholarship which includes the tuition fee. You need an e-coe to apply for a student visa. The amount of the deposit will be included in the offer letter you receive from the University. 3.4 The remaining balance of your semester fees must be paid by the third Friday of each semester, or the nominated date in a non-standard teaching session. 3.5 All students, including students from overseas, may have to pay incidental costs for their studies such as the hire of laboratory kits and the purchase of notes and/or reading bricks. These costs are paid when they are incurred and not when your tuition fees are due. Your tuition fees do not include living expenses. 4. Fee Information for Graduate Research Students 4.1 Research tuition fees will be payable by the third Friday of each semester. 4.2 A deposit must be paid before an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (e-coe) can be issued, unless the fees are being paid on your behalf by a sponsorship or scholarship. You need an e-coe to apply for a student visa. The amount of the deposit will be included in the offer letter you receive from the University. You will be invoiced for the balance of the semester s tuition fees after enrolment. 5. Visa Requirements 5.1 You are legally required to keep the University informed of your current address at all times. If you fail to do this you will be in breach of student visa requirements. 5.2 Except in special circumstances, you are required as a condition of your visa to remain enrolled as a full time student in 100% study load. You must obtain permission from the University to enrol in more or less than 100% full-time study load in each semester. 5.3 You must inform the Academic Quality and Standards Office (ASQO) about any variation in your enrolment. This includes Leave, Transfer and Withdrawal. Retrospective applications will not be accepted. 6. Overseas Student Health Cover 6.1 Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a private health care arrangement, which helps cover the cost of medical treatments in and out of hospital, for example if you get sick or have an accident. It is a condition of your student visa (Condition 8501) that you are covered by OSHC for the of your student visa. OSHC World Care is the preferred health cover provider of The Australian National University; this arrangement however does not restrict you from obtaining OSHC from a recognised provider of your choice. If you choose to select a health insurance provider other than the University s nominated provider, you must show evidence that you are covered by the other health insurance provider. OSHC must be arranged before a student visa can be issued. It is your responsibility to make sure that you have a current health cover policy until your student visa expires. 7. Refund Policy 7.1 Under certain circumstances students/applicants may be eligible for a full or partial refund of their fees.
