1 Some Setup guidelines for Voyager Megapixel camera Date : 4/27/2010

2 1. Overview This quick guide has detailed information on how to setup the recording mechanisms available in Voyager I. It also has information on how to setup a router in order to access a Voyager I located on the intranet side of the router. 2. Recording mechanisms Voyager can be used to record image continuously or by a triggered event. The image can be in a format of video clips or JPEG pictures. The parameters involved in recording are the recording medias and when the recording occurs and how are the recorded images processed. 2.1 Recording on demand By pressing the recording buttons (REC or the snapshot) at the bottom of the Live View page, one can record a video clip or snapshots on demand. One can press path button to change the recording path. You can also change the video recording duration or recording file size here. Every time the snapshot button is pressed, a JPEG image is created in the directory specified by the snapshot path. When recording a video clip, one can press the REC button to start and stop the video recording. If a video recording is started without a subsequent stop operation, the recording will continue indefinitely that create video clips containing video of a duration specified by the Record Duration value. 2.2 Recording by events Recording can be invoked by a trigged or scheduled event. The recording can be sent to either FTP, Samba or SMTP server. Before recording setup, servers to store the recording data must be defined Recording Server specification Go to Event Setting page by pressing the Event button. Press Event Server button to go to Event Server List page. Press button at the bottom to add the desired server FTP Server specification The steps below illustrate how to add an FTP server.

3 (1) Press Add FTP and enter the information needed. Make sure that the login user has the privilege to write to the Upload Path in the server(directory /video in this case). Note that the root directory / is usually the root directory of the FTP server. The directory /video should be created first. Otherwise the recordings will be sent to / Samba Server specification Any NAS(Network Attached Storage) device like Western Digital My Book series should support Samba protocol. The steps below illustrate how to add a Samba server. (1) Go to Samba Setting page by clicks of Basic Setting >Network >SAMBA. Enter the information needed. Make sure that the login user has the privilege to write to the Upload Path in the server(directory /video in this case). The directory /video

4 should be created first. Press Testing button to verify the configuration. See picture below. Don t enable Recycle Record if recording files are to be kept. The Remaining SAMBA Capacity is the maximum space that can be used for recording SMTP Server specification If the recording is to be sent via , an SMTP server needs to be setup. The steps below illustrate how to add an SMTP server. Go to SMTP Setting page by clicks of Basic Setting >Network >SMTP. Enter the information needed. Make sure that SMTP from and To mail address are legitimate addresses. The username and password are those used to login to the SMTP server. Press Testing button to verify the configuration. See picture below.

5 The picture below illustrates the setup of using Gmail s SMTP server to send the recorded files to a hotmail s address Recording by motion detection (1) Go to Motion Detection page (2) Click on area 1 to bring up the green rectangular frame that defines the area

6 (3) Use the edge of the frame to define the size of the area. Click on the center of the frame and drag the mouse to define the position of the area. (4) Click save when done. (5) Press Event button to go to Event Setting page. (6) Press Add Event button to go to the page to enter event configuration data. The screen below depicts a setup to upload the recording video image to the FTP server defined before.

7 Date/time suffix is used in constructing the file names indicating the time of the event occurrence. Sequence number suffix is used as the last character of the file name and is cyclic up to the number specified. Note that one can also select Samba or SMTP for storing recording data. (7) Click save when done. 2.3 Recording file sizes Recording file sizes are important because network bandwidth is consumed by transporting them to various servers. Some SMTP servers also have size limitations of files to send. The Recording file sizes depend on the setup of video/image settings. To go to Video / Image Settings, use clicks of Basic Setting >Video / Image. See picture below.

Access Voyager remotely

9 Voyager I is often deployed at home or in an office on an intranet behind a router. If one wants to access it from the internet, some special configuration is required on the router to open a path from the accessing device on the internet to the Voyager I behind the router. A step by step operation of such configuration setup is given below using an Asante Smarthub AWRT 600N router. The assumption here is that the Voyager can be accessed from the LAN side of the router. (1) Login in as administrator of the router and go to Advanced Set Up, (2) Go to Applications page

10 (3) Setup Single Port Forwarding Assuming the IP address of Voyager is Set up port 80 and port 554 to be forwarded to Voyager. Port 80 is the default port used by HTTP traffic by a browser. The port 554 is used by QuickTime traffic required for Browsers other than Internet Explorer such as FIrefox, Safari and Chrome. When these browsers are used, a second authentication for QuickTime is required. The username/password is the same as the one used to login the Voyager.

11 (4) Access Voyager from internet Assuming the IP address of the WAN interface of the router where Voyager is connected is Launch the browser and enter in the URL line at the top of the browser page. The username/password window will appear and the Voyager can be accessed after the correct username/password is entered. When a browser other than IE is used, a second authentication for QuickTime is required. The username/password is the same as the one used to login the Voyager. The arrows point to the places where should appear.
