3 Course Introduction Psychology is the exciting study of the mind and behaviour. Psychologists employ the rigour of science to investigate how people perceive the world, structure their thinking, solve problems, interact with others, grow up, get older and much more. Concepts such as perception, memory, personality and interpersonal relationships are all central building blocks of the psychological theories that are studied at Liverpool Hope as part of a Psychology degree. Psychology has a major impact on society in many aspects of public life, including health, education, occupation, economy, policy and justice. At Liverpool Hope University, we provide highlevel research-oriented teaching from our team of skilled educators. Our staff comprise of active researchers with a wide array of academic interests, ranging from conflict resolution, resilience and coping through religion, development of literacy skills, how we use Facebook, form relationships and attend to, organise and remember different forms of information. Psychology students learn about the brain, the mind, the behaviour, but first and foremost we learn about our fellow humans. We learn to care for them and to be present when needed, which are all valuable skills we can build upon for a better and fairer society. A degree in Psychology from Hope is recognised by the British Psychological Society. 3

8 Graduate Profiles Rebecca Dwyer Rebecca graduated with a BSc (First Class) in Psychology in 2015 and won the Psychology Examiners Prize for best performing student. I thought that Hope was unique in that when I first started my degree I was able to choose a dual honours degree in which I chose to study psychology and fine art. Both of which were subjects I loved and other universities close to home didn t offer this combination. Eventually as I progressed through university I decided to focus solely on psychology as I knew that was what I really wanted to do. I ve had a wonderful time studying Psychology at Hope, met great friends and have gained an amazing experience which I won t forget. For the future I hope to continue into postgraduate studies and continue on to do a masters and perhaps even eventually progress into further postgraduate study following that. 8
