Birthday Party Wednesday, December 17, :00 PM Let the Renovations Begin! Good news!! Change is going to start taking place on December 16th. The Rehab Therapy Department will be the first to get a face lift. They are moving to the Classroom and will be occasionally using the Lighthouse Room while their gym is being renovated and modernized. Starting January 26th, the Chesapeake Room will be used during the day as a dayroom for the Tidewater Cove residents during the construction of the new Dementia Unit. We will be changing the way lunch is served in the dayrooms to make your dining experience just as nice as if you were in the Chesapeake Room. Also, if you wish to eat with another resident on their unit, arrangements will be made for you to receive your tray on the other unit. Most activities will be conducted in your dayrooms. We will have use of the Lighthouse Room during this transition period and some activities will be held there, such as Gourmet Galley. If you see something on the daily sheet that you would like to attend on another unit, please make your wishes known and we will help you get to that dayroom. Change is always difficult, but this is going to be a positive change when it is completed and will make our home a better place in which to serve the needs of all. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time.

4 Page 4 The Chit-Chat Karen's Korner! As we arrive at December, it seems to me that the whole of this year has gone by unbelievably fast. Perhaps that is simply due to my getting older myself. Aside from the happy holiday of Christmas and its associated activities, let s look at some historical facts from December s past. Almost none of us can forget December 7th, which is Pearl Harbor Day. Our nation was told it was a day that would live in infamy, and so it has. In 1941, on that Sunday morning, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, and thus started WWII. This was before my time, but I am certain that many of you remember it quite clearly. Consequently, on the 11th, Hitler and Mussolini declared war on the U.S. What a dismal December that must have been in Fortunately, we are in better shape these days, and have our usual Christmas observations as always-for our Jewish friends Hanukkah begins at sundown on the 16th, and falls relatively close to Christmas; although some years it comes closer. And now, on the 21st, is the first day of winter. I don t know about you, but it seems to me, that all or at least many characteristics of winter have shown themselves many times last month way ahead of the official season. Finally this month, we have the longawaited part of the month, and for many the most beloved of all years Christmas Eve on the 24th and Christmas Day on the 25th. Christians around the world celebrate these holidays in their own unique and special ways. At the last day of December, the 31st, we observe the end of 2014 and the arrival of Many folks celebrate this occasion with parties of all sorts. Many people travel to Times Square in New York City. My daughter has lived in Manhattan or its outskirts for many years, since the day she got out of college, but neither she nor her close friends ventured to Times Square. I wish all of you well and have a happy and blessed month, filled with memories from days gone and new memories still to come....written by Karen Wiley Mallard Way
5 Page 5 The Chit-Chat Guild Volunteer Auxiliary Monthly Meeting 10:30 AM December 9, 2014 Conference Room Thank You Gift Shop Donations : Bud Tyson & Mary Lex. Christmas Fabric : Thanks to everyone for their generous donation of fabric for crafts. Volunteer, Toni Burns, greatly appreciates it. What Would it Be Like Without the Volunteers? We continue to spotlight our wonderful volunteers and all that they give. John & Toni Burns : John and Toni Burns are both Guild members. Toni has held the office of Secretary and we were thankful for her time in office. She heads up the craft class twice a month on Mondays. The residents really enjoy this activity. Toni is always willing to help with the volunteer and activity departments in any way that she can. John is one of our medical escorts for the residents. He is always available especially to escort our male residents to outside medical appointments. The residents always request John. He also heads up the Men s Social twice a month on Monday afternoons. The men really enjoy John s time. John and Toni also helped organize and work our Annual Father s Day Car Show, putting a lot of time and energy into making this event memorable for the residents and their families. John and Toni also attended the class here to become certified to assist with meal times and feeding residents assigned to them by nursing. On one occasion during a snow storm, they came to assist with meals and ended up spending the night. They are truly helpful and dedicated to improving the quality of life here at Citizens. Thank you John and Toni Burns! The Alzheimer s Association has extended their fundraising to December 31, Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center has been part of the giving for this Association for several years. On November 1, 2014, the CCRC team walked in the Harford County Walk to End Alzheimers at the Bel Air Equestrian Center. The weather was cold, wet and windy but we walked along with other teams. Total walkers for Harford County was 603. As of November 21, 2014 our actual fundraising for Harford County was $91, and our goal was $102,000. CCRC played an important role with our team members walking and raising funds and being a sponsor. Patty Peterson has been selling the Forget-Me-Not flowers displayed in our cafeteria and will continue to sell them until December 31, The team also has giving cans in the cafeteria, gift shop and reception desk. Each Tuesday is giving Tuesday for the Alzheimers Association, so if you have spare change please contribute to the marked purple containers. I want to thank the team members who walked, worked and continue to help raise funds for this Association. Together we can Honor...Care Remember...Fight. Buy a Forget-Me-Not! Thank you ALL who have supported the CCRC Team!! Volunteers Are Needed Two volunteers are needed to assist residents attending the Oak Grove Baptist Church A Rocky Mountain Christmas performance on December 7th. Leaving CCRC at 1:30 pm. Twelve volunteers are needed to go with residents on a shopping trip to Bel Air on December 11th. We will be leaving CCRC at 10:30 a.m. and enjoy lunch at Five Guys. Each resident will need a volunteer. If YOU can help with either of these resident outings, please contact the Activity Department.
