1 MultiDSLA v4.8.1: Release Notes at 07 October 2013 These Release Notes give you information about MultiDSLA v4.8, feature changes, known issues and possible workarounds for those issues. In 4.8 we have extended our Smartphone control feature to measure Post Dial Delay as well as providing constrained iphone support. We have implemented ITU-T O.81 Group Delay analysis and we have refined the Results Analyser to make result drill down even easier. Alongside these changes are various useful additions and bug fixes. System Requirements Supported Operating System Minimum Revision Level: Windows XP Professional SP3; Windows Vista Business SP2; Windows 7 Professional; Windows 8 Professional; Windows Server 2003 SP2; Windows Server 2008; Both 32-bit & 64-bit versions of all Operating Systems. Processor: 2 GHz Pentium processor or equivalent (Minimum); Pentium Duo processor or equivalent (Recommended) RAM: 1024 MB (Minimum); 2048 MB (Recommended) Hard Disk: Up to 1.5 GB of available space may be required Display: 1024 x 768 high colour (Minimum); 1280 x 1024 high colour (Recommended) Installation Notes MultiDSLA v4.8 is an upgrade from previous v4 and v3 installations. If you have downloaded the installation from our website you will find that it is now provided as an ISO file. The ISO file is a copy of the CD-ROM contents and includes all prerequisites for the installation of MultiDSLA. It should not be necessary to uninstall earlier versions of MultiDSLA v4 or v3 prior to installing the released version. However, should problems occur while installing the released version please uninstall the earlier pre-release versions, restart the PC and try installing the released version again. Installing MultiDSLA If you already have a MultiDSLA v4.8 CD-ROM please skip the first two steps: 1. Download the ISO file from to be found in Support Downloads. 2. Burn the ISO file to a CD-ROM or use a third party application to mount the image without burning to a CD (e.g. Virtual CloneDrive).

2 3. Run the setup.exe program. The setup program prompts you through the installation process. Follow the instructions on the screen. Uninstalling MultiDSLA If required, you can uninstall MultiDSLA by following the steps below: 1. Select Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. 2. From the list of currently installed programs, select MultiDSLA 4, and click Remove. This process does not remove the user files, database or any licence keys installed on the system. Node Requirements MultiDSLA v4.8 introduces new features that require additions to the node software. Please upgrade nodes to at least the following versions: DSLAII 32k sample rate firmware v6.933 DSLAII 48k sample rate firmware v7.133 (Serial Number 5496 onwards or upgraded 32k units) Scalable VN v2.7.2 ISDN PRI v2.4.2 ISDN BRI v2.4.2 MultiDSLA no longer supports the VVT and Virtual Node types. Both client applications have been superseded by Scalable VN which offers more functionality. Users of Virtual Node can download and install Scalable VN free of charge. Feature Additions and Changes in v4.8 Node Management It is now possible to copy a node configuration from one node to another. In Node Manager > Config Editor click on the split button drop-down arrow at the top of the editor. Select Copy current config. You can now paste this configuration back into this node to create a copy or into another node of the same type by selecting the Paste command in the same split-button command list. When a node is added to MultiDSLA, if unallocated POLQA effective channels are available, the node is automatically set to measure POLQA. This makes initial system configuration quicker. The Smartphone Discovery utility now finds phones connected to a non-primary network interface card. Setting the PC system time from a GPS controlled node now updates the date as well as the time.

3 Tasklist Additions A Group Delay ITU-T O.81 tone generator event has been added to the tasklist. The O.81 tone consists of a modulated tone-pair, the first tone being a reference and the second tone being the test frequency. The event will play a sequence of tone-pairs between a user defined start and end frequencies at a user defined step size. The reference frequency is also user configurable. A new Group Delay measurement event for assessing the ITU-T O.81 signal generated by the above tone event. In the tasklist editor the Wait for Tone description now states whether it is waiting for a single tone or a dual tone. The description also includes the frequency of the tone(s) on which the event is waiting. Clicking on Add Comment in the Tasklist Editor now adds the comment below the item that is currently selected. Essentially the comment hangs from the item being commented on. Previously the comment was placed above the item which, although matched how the comments are stored in the tasklist s XML document, was visually confusing. A new Task Property called Log Task has been added. By default this is set to Only with measurement. It can also be set to Always. If set to Always the task will be added to the Results Analyser s task list. This can be helpful when analysing tests when you wish to confirm that a task was executed even if it does not return a measurement. Note: an empty task will be skipped and not added to the Results Analyser even if Always is set. Running Tests It is now possible to extract Post Dial Delay measurements from a Smartphone when using Malden s Smartphone Control utilities. Post Dial Delay analysis is performed automatically when Call Progress is enabled in the DSLA node config. An iphone smartphone controller app is now available from the Apple App Store. Unfortunately, due to restrictions imposed by the Apple ios operating system repeated call-setup/tear-down sequences are not possible without some user involvement. The smartphone controller app is useful for extracting Post Dial Delay measurements and ensuring the correct number if dialled, but it cannot be used for full unattended test automation. The Android Smartphone control application does not have these restrictions. It is now possible to adjust the Call Progress > Ignore Signal duration in a node configuration. This is important where short 150ms tones are used as Comfort Tones to indicate, for example, to the user that a phone call is being placed on a roaming tariff, but which should not indicate the end of the Post Dial Delay measurement. The number of event logs stored to disk before deleting an old event log (set via System Settings > General > Event Notification & Logging) has been increased from 10 to 100 following a number of requests from customers. Each file is limited to 4 MB so this increases the maximum disk space used from 40 MB to 400 MB.

4 In previous versions it was not possible to obtain E-model results with repeats in a call. This issue has been fixed. It was also not possible to run Smartphone Control with Define Test > Executes within a Call. This is now fixed. Remote Access GetUpTime did not roll over correctly, this problem has been fixed. A call to Remote Access SetConfig is now reflected in the User Interface. A memory leak could occur when applying Input EQs to recorded results. This leak has been fixed. Remote Access Test LoadScenario now allows the - character in a filename. A problem in running three-way tests using hook-flash has been resolved. Previously, if communication between MultiDSLA and a node failed, a very specific debug message was presented in the event log. This message has been simplified to read Command response not received. This message is shown rather than Connection lost because the connection may not be lost and it may be possible for the node to recover from this situation. Results Analysis General You can now search for results by Test ID in the Results Analyser by clicking on the Find Test action in the Actions Panel. The Waveform Analysis view is now available from the Results Analyser s View list for a DSLA Call Progress result. This allows you to quickly select areas of the signal and check the frequency response of the selected area. This is useful for example when trying to determine the frequency content of a ringback tone. When zoomed in on a signal in the Waveform View you can pan the view by holding down on the ctrl key and dragging the graph left and right. You can also pan the signal by holding down the ctrl key and pressing the right and left cursors. A vertical pan is possible by holding down the ctrl key and pressing the up and down cursor keys. You can horizontally zoom a waveform by scrolling the mouse wheel. Perform a vertical zoom by holding down the ctrl key as well as scrolling the mouse wheel. Alternative zoom keys also exits; pressing + key will zoom in on the horizontal, while pressing key will zoom out on the horizontal. Holding down the ctrl key and pressing + or will zoom the vertical scale. The axis scaling of the PEAQ music quality results graph has been improved. The Results Logger now allows Unicode result writing. Call Progress markers were omitted if rotate dialler was enabled. This is now fixed. Exporting Tone Burst measurements to a file now correctly reports the source and destination. Out of order packets were sometimes being presented as packet loss in the Packet Statistics view. This is now fixed. An application loading issue on German OS installations has been fixed.

5 The File Processor s POLQA reference check added an extra SWB filtering stage which could in some situations result in a slightly different score compared to not having the filter present. This extra filtering stage has been removed. Node names containing very large number sequence could result in a crash. This has been fixed. Changes in v4.8.1 The Remote Access API has been extended to return call summary statistics. Users can now query the number of successful, aborted and failed calls by test id. RESULT GetSuccessfulCalls testid RESULT GetFailedCalls testid RESULT GetAbortedCalls testid The event log file writer contained a bug which could stop event log writing when the file size limit was reached. This has been fixed. POLQA min and max offset values were swapped, this has been fixed. Known Issues Packet captures are not associated with the result data. You must read the event log to determine where a capture is stored. Wait for Call State event in DSLA is not working. Acoustic testing is not recommended with 48k DSLAII. Better performance is achieved with a 32k DSLAII. Any DSLAII with a serial number below 5496 will be a 32k DLSAII, unless specifically returned to Malden for upgrade to 48k. Moving the Report Window within the MultiDSLA can cause the report function to stop working. If this occurs, close the Report Window and re-open the window. A direct connection between DSLAII and the MultiDSLA PC can give rise to streaming failure. One solution is to change the Ethernet card configuration to 10M or 100M Half-Duplex instead of Auto-negotiation. Installation Issues and Workarounds On Windows XP (x64) & Server 2003 if you wish to use the Remote Access command PERFORMADVANCEDANALYSIS you need to make the following changes to IIS to be able to download the RST files. 1. In IIS Manager, right-click on Default Web Site, and click Properties. 2. Click the HTTP Headers tab. 3. Click Mime Types. 4. Click New. 5. In the Extension box, type.rst. 6. In the MIME type box, type application/x-malden-application. 7. Click OK. On Windows XP, installing MultiDSLA from one user account and running the application from another account can result in database access issues. If this occurs
