4 Message from the Program Coordinator The Master of Science in Business with concentration in finance program is primarily designed for students who possess an undergraduate degree in business, although some well -prepared students may possess an undergraduate degree in economics or a technical background in mathematics or engineering. By specializing in finance you will gain extensive training and skills in financial decision making in the areas of corporate financial management, investments CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION The Master of Science in Business with concentration in finance program is primarily designed for students who possess an undergraduate degree in business. FINANCE CONCENTRATION and security analysis, international finance, funds management in financial institutions, and derivatives. We are pleased to welcome students from Christ University to our MS in Business Finance concentration program. Nanda Rangan, Ph.D. Chair of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate The core courses prepare our students for the nuances of finance and the latest applications in the business environment. 5 FEATURED FINANCE FACULTY David H. Downs, Ph.D. is the Alfred L. Blake Chair, professor of real estate in the Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Department. Dr. Downs teaches real estate asset management in the undergraduate program and real estate analysis and investments at the graduate level. His research interests include real estate finance and investment, issues relevant to institutional real estate investors and the implications of real estate regulation. Puneet Prakash, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate. His research interest lies broadly in the area of Risk Management, and he teaches risk, insurance and corporate finance courses. He has won competitive research grants from the Dean of School of Business at VCU, and presented research papers at both national and international conferences. More recently, he spent one semester at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur where he taught Economic Analysis for Managers to first year MBA students Nanda Rangan, Ph.D. is both the chair of the Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate Department and a Professor in finance. He has been the executive director of international operations, a director of the India MBA program in Bangalore, and an associate dean at Ohio University. He publications have appeared in the Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of Banking and Finance. He has published over 40 articles and been repeatedly recognized for his excellence in teaching. Daniel Salandro, Ph.D. teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in corporate finance. Dr. Salandro is a member of the American Finance Association, Eastern Finance Association, Southern Finance Association and the Financial Management Association. He has conducted research projects investigating asset market microstructures (bid/ask spread estimation) and investor preferences in experimental asset markets. He currently uses simulation modeling to align business strategic plans and financial planning. Brent C. Smith, Ph.D. has background in real estate counseling services to public, nonprofit, corporate and institutional clients on topics ranging from finance package development, tax allocation, capital asset/real property management and valuation, lease residual income, mergers and acquisitions, stock transfers, and trust development. His research focuses on connecting the economy and public policy to real estate markets - equity issues in homeowner-ship, quantitative modeling of markets. Manu Gupta, Ph.D. is assistant professor of finance in Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Department. He also serves as advisor for MS finance program at Virginia Commonwealth University. His research interests include Corporate Governance, Executive Compensation, Earnings Manipulation, and Regulatory Institutions. He has published in Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Business Finance and Accounting. He has been cited in Financial Times, London and The Washington Post. He has received several awards for his contributions to research and teaching. David Upton, Ph.D. specializes in Security Analysis and Portfolio Management. Dr. Upton has published twelve refereed articles in leading journals, four refereed proceedings, and presented twenty-seven conference papers. He has been active in the Association for Investment Management and Research, and is a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers Board of Arbitrators. He serves on the Investment Committee of the Richmond Retirement System. He is a past president and trustee of the Eastern Finance Association. RESEARCH

6 GLOBAL MARKETING CONCENTRATION Message from the Program Coordinator Van Wood Ph.D. is a professor of marketing and the Phillip Chair of International Business in the VCU School of Business. He has been with VCU since 1994 and is the lead faculty member for the International Business Certificate program. He is a specialist in international business with over 30 years of experience in global marketing and trade. He has produced and moderated 14 International Forums each with a unique international business focus. Dr. Wood has been awarded grants to develop international programs from the Fulbright Commission, the World Bank, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Commerce, VCU, Texas Tech University, and other institutions. development of international markets, international marketing opportunities, and competition and profitability in international markets. Dr. Wood has as his primary research focus on the correlates of international business success. His current research project deals with the area of "cognitive structures" of experienced exporters. Dr. Wood was educated at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Marketing in 1973 and his MBA in International Business in 1975 from the University of Washington. He later earned a Ph.D. in International Marketing in 1982 from the University of Oregon. His teaching interests focus on globalization, the selection and Van Wood, Ph.D. Philip Morris Endowed Chair CURRICULUM DESCRIPTION The Master of Science in Business with a global marketing management concentration offers students the opportunity to concentrate their studies in two related areas: marketing management and global business management. Students interested in preparing for the increasingly global nature of business will be well suited for this unique Master of Science degree program. All degree candidates are strongly encouraged to participate in an intensive study program in a foreign language and/or a foreign study program. Foundation courses for the MS in Business with a concentration in global marketing include: MGMT 524 Statistical Elements of Quantitative Management ECON 500 Concepts in Economics ACCT 507 Fundamentals of Accounting FIRE 520 Financial Concepts of Management MKTG 570 Concepts and Issues in Marketing The require core includes preparation in the areas of marketing management, international marketing, marketing research, and business policy. Students also participate in an international marketing planning project and select two courses in the concentration of global business. Finally, students are asked to choose three courses from a list of electives which prepare students regarding consumer behavior, service quality, and advertising.

7 FEATURED MARKETING FACULTY Jodie L. Ferguson, Ph.D. is an assistant of marketing in the MKTG department in the VCU School of Business. Dr. Ferguson recently joined the MKTG department after completing her Ph.D. in marketing at Georgia State University. She is the faculty advisor for the VCU Chapter of the American Marketing Association, a student organization focused on engaging students who are interested in understanding the facets and principles of marketing. Dr. Ferguson was appointed in the fall of Frank Franzak, Ph.D. is an associate professor of marketing in the MTKG department in the VCU School of Business. Dr. Franzak has been a part of the department since 1986 and was chair from July of 2002 to July of Previous to his appointment at VCU, he was on the faculty of Boston College School of Management. He is currently a board member with the American Marketing Association Global Marketing Special Interest Group. He is also the faculty mentor and is in charge of recruiting students to the Da Vinci Center sponsored by the Schools of Arts, Engineering, and Business. Haeran Jae, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of marketing in the MKTG department in the VCU School of Business since She is a native of South Korea and an alumnus of the University of Kentucky and Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Jae's research centers on marketing communication with low-literacy consumers. Dr. Jae's current projects are looking at comparisons of reading processes and working memory between high and low-literacy consumers. David J. Urban, Ph.D., P.C.M. is Professor of Marketing and the Interim Dean of the VCU School of Business. He has received eight peer-reviewed national/international awards for teaching excellence. He has also been honored by his School of Business peers with the Distinguished Teaching Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Award of Excellence. He is the only professor from the VCU School of Business to have ever received an Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). Kenneth Kahn, Ph.D. is Director of the Da Vinci Center for Innovation at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. His teaching and research interests concern market development, product management, and demand forecasting of current and new products. His professional focus emphasizes company collaborations to augment the education and research experience for students and faculty. He will focus on student team collaboration between VCU and Christ University as it applies to business opportunities. Jayaraman Vijayakumar, Ph.D. teaches International Accounting, Capital Markets, Financial Reporting and Government Financing. He has worked extensively with South India universities and businesses as Bangalore, India is his home town.
