4 JFCS NEXTGEN: What, Why and How
5 WHAT IS JFCS NEXTGEN? JFCS NextGen is a long term strategic development plan designed to engage the next generation of philanthropists. Three-part program consisting of a Fund, Club and Board. Fund: 360 degree giving model. Club: Hands on volunteer, personal and professional development and social events. Board: Leadership, strategy, fundraising, event planning and governance.
6 WHY DID WE CREATE NEXTGEN? To engage and involve young adults in JFCS To fill a need in the community To create meaningful philanthropy and volunteer opportunities and instill the habit of giving in the next generation
7 HOW DID WE KNOW IT WAS RIGHT? The non-profits who have the foresight of reaching out to the Millennial Generation, will be the ones who garner their loyalty in giving. These non-profits must reach them with tangible and measurable giving options, with opportunities to see their gifts in action. These donors want to have a sense of belonging to a social network tying them to the organization, while offering opportunities for them to grow professionally, personally and communally. The data is clear: The average person under 30 may have lower income and wealth (compared to older groups). However, ideas, enthusiasm, and energy are important for charities. A relationship formed now based on volunteering can become a strong donor relationship as a person s income grows over time.
8 HOW DID WE CREATE NEXTGEN? Formatted the idea Asked the community what they wanted Presented our plan to the JFCS Board of Directors Utilized Social Media to reach our audience Raised seed money from this gen donors Put together the board Recruited members Threw a big party

10 NEXTGEN BOARD Use social media as a call for applications for board members Twenty members, ages Executive Committee Board meets every other month Board members plan activities, recruit members and act as ambassadors for JFCS and NextGen in the community Committees: Personal and Professional Development, Marketing, Volunteer and Social Events and Board Engagement
11 NEXTGEN FUND Model: 360 Giving The board raises money, then determines where in the agency the money will go to followed by hands on volunteer work with the programs receiving money Three times a year the board reviews proposals from programs within JFCS and votes to disburse money Once a year, at the NextGen Summer event all attendees use strands of beads to vote on programs to receive funding Seed Money is raised from this gen to support the activities of NextGen
