Our diplomas and advanced diplomas can give you credits and guaranteed pathways into degrees at other universities and TAFEs. Our teachers are industrytrained professionals who love their work, and pass their passion onto their students. Course entry is based on varied selection criteria rather than just your academic performance - meaning that there is a study option for everyone. Small class sizes and more contact hours means lots of face-to-face time with your teachers, and less time required for independent study at home. 2 For the latest information visit thegordon.edu.au

5 Work placements and projects form a large part of our course content, giving you the practical experience you need to be confident when you enter the workforce. Three main locations across Geelong and Wyndham, offering you greater choice, convenience, and lifestyle benefits. Geelong Wyndham I m currently studying my second year of the Diploma of Nursing. I chose The Gordon because it had such a fantastic reputation and because of the pathways to Deakin University. Studying at The Gordon has opened up many opportunities. The facilities are a great learning tool, and the teachers are all nurses which helps. We also have access to the lab that provides us with time to practice our nursing care. I ve just finished three weeks placement and had the best learning experience, using what I had learnt in the classroom in real situations. A high graduate employment rate and strong industry connections means you have a good chance of gaining employment when you finish your studies. The thing I enjoy the most about the course is that I get to do a lot of handson practical work, which helps because I m a visual learner. When I finish, I plan to continue studying at Deakin University to become a Registered Nurse. Edan Granger Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled-Division 2 nursing), #thegordon

7 Hear from past students I chose to study at The Gordon as I really wanted to work outside in the field and get hands-on with my conservation work. The course offered a great mix of theory and practical experience, allowing me to increase my knowledge along with my field skills. The best thing about this course is being able to learn while also exploring our natural environment. The teachers are also friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and fantastic. They help by getting you into the field and working in the industry, making contacts and gaining real experience. I am currently working with the City of Greater Geelong as a member of their Conservation Reserves Team. This involves helping to improve, protect and restore some of Geelong s most incredible natural environments. I love that I can work outdoors in amongst nature with a great team of people, and knowing that it s benefiting local wildlife and the community. Bowen Davies Diploma of Conservation and Land Management, 2014 I have loved art and being creative as long as I can remember. After leaving school I chose to follow a career working with animals but after four years I found myself looking for a career change, and knew that it had to be within a creative industry. Graphic Design at The Gordon allowed me the freedom to explore my own personal style of design and is extremely flexible. As students we were given many opportunities outside of the TAFE, from attending art exhibitions and viewing commissioned art and to being a part of real design jobs. I found attending design conferences and visits to graphic design studios to be a highlight. I completed my second year placement at local Geelong agency Circle Media I currently work with another Geelong agency, Moo Media as a junior graphic designer. I work on a wide range of graphic design jobs as well as promotional video work. I also freelance with clients, many of which I was introduced to during my time at The Gordon. Emma McLoughlin Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design, 2014 I originally chose to study building design at The Gordon for my love of architecture and the direct link to Deakin. I really enjoyed the classroom environment with everyone working in a team, and the hands-on approach with the teachers. I also enjoyed the various site visits as well as using real sites and clients to complete our projects. The Gordon prepared me with a handson base, high level of construction knowledge and in-depth skills to be able to both design and produce high standard working drawings. After leaving The Gordon and working in construction for six months I discovered a passion for this side of the industry and enrolled into the Bachelor of Construction Management at Deakin, receiving 11 credit points and 18 months off my degree. I am currently working for a residential and commercial building company while I complete uni, and I ve learnt so much in the field which I am able to apply to my course work. I find working in the industry has given me a real advantage and would highly recommend this to future students, as once your foot is in the door it will open you up to many opportunities. Jordan Caruana Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural), 2013 #thegordon

20 When can you come to The Gordon? While still in secondary school... An alternative to senior secondary school... VET in Schools (VETiS) Combine your VCE or VCAL studies with hands-on skills and a national qualification. A VETiS program allows you to experience a career you may be considering, adds to the eligibility requirements for VCE/VCAL, and may contribute to your ATAR score. Choose from more than 25 VET in Schools programs in a range of areas. Speak to your school VET Coordinator or check out our VET in Schools guide for more information. School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT) A great option if you would like to start an apprenticeship or traineeship, but also finish secondary school. Once you ve secured an employer, you can combine or SBAT with your VCE or VCAL studies, which can reduce the amount of time required to complete your qualification after secondary school. Speak to your school VET Coordinator for more information on your options. You can do this through VET in Schools or as a full-time course after secondary school. Pre-apprenticeships also reduce the duration of your full apprenticeship once employed. I was offered a full-time hairdressing apprenticeship in year ten, but it was very important to me to finish my schooling, and a school-based apprenticeship offered me that opportunity, allowing me to obtain as much information as possible. To further develop my skills and knowledge I have completed a number of short courses, and attended product knowledge classes and hair shows featuring highly respected hairdressers. I have found these experiences to be extremely beneficial as I have been able to apply new skills and knowledge in my workplace A school-based apprenticeship is an extraordinary opportunity. I found it to be a very rewarding journey which I m very grateful to be a part of, and I have been fortunate enough to learn from some of the best minds in my field. Aaron knew that working with his hands in the plumbing trade was for him after doing work experience in the small country town of Warracknabeal while at Secondary College. Now in the third year of his Certificate III in Plumbing and apprenticeship with Quick Plumbing in Warracknabeal, Aaron works on a diverse range of residential projects from roofing and hot water services to home renovations and sewer blockages. I really enjoyed the hands-on work and was lucky enough to be offered an apprenticeship after working part-time with my work experience host over the school holidays. I enjoy my job as I m working on different jobs all the time and my surroundings change each day. I chose to study at The Gordon initially because I have family to stay with here and I m glad I did the teachers and facilities are great! Aaron Watts Certificate III in Plumbing, 2016 I ve wanted to become an accountant since high school, but started studying a different degree before deciding to pursue this dream. I choose to study at The Gordon because I wanted to learn the basics of accounting first, so I knew what to expect when I applied for university. Not only does The Gordon teach you the theory side of the industry but more importantly, the practical side. I loved how the teachers and students interacted - it was a great learning experience for me. When I finished, I pursued further work experience by doing free tax returns in the community, which is organised through the Australian Tax Office. I enjoyed it so much that I am doing it again this year. I am currently working as a casual bookkeeper and am completing my third year of a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting at Deakin University. My goal is to become a Certified Practicing Accountant. Jenny Luong Advanced Diploma of Accounting, 2015 #thegordon
