1 UW A&A Student Printing Information UW A&A Printing All printing in the Student Computer Lab is submitted to network-based printers, which are located in the lab. All your print jobs are processed through the printer accounting server ORVILLE, charged against your account, and submitted to the proper network printer. You will need to create network print queues for each printer you want to use by selecting Devices and Printers from the Start menu. Follow the settings in Figures 1-4 to create a network print queue. (See available print queues in Table 1). Figure 1. Devices and Printers. Figure 2. Add Printer window.

NOTE: There are 2 separate print queues for each LaserJet P3005 printer in the lab -- PCL (Printer Command Language) and PS (PostScript). PCL and PS are different print job description languages which usually produce identical printouts. On rare occasions, you may find errors with either PS or PCL print jobs. It is a good idea to resubmit the problem print job using the other printer language queue -- it may work! Windows Printing from Your Personal Computer If you are using your personal computer running the Windows operating system, it is possible to print to departmental printers. Select the Windows Start Menu Run selection and enter the Windows print queue share name for the desired printer from Table 1 (see below). You will be prompted for your UWAA domain username and password. If entered properly, the queue will be added.

NOTE: After a reboot, your personal computer will be unknown to the departmental print server and you will have to authenticate again with your UWAA username and password. Print Accounting System Your printing account is created automatically with the submission of your first print job. You are initially credited with $1.00 of printing by the department. When that is exhausted, you are required to make cash deposits with the A&A Department Administrator in GUG 211. A positive balance must be maintained for your print jobs to complete. You will receive an warning message if you have exhausted your printing account balance. You can check your A&A printing account balance from the Equitrac Account Monitor client application. The client application is pre-installed on all GUG 212 student computer lab PCs. Equitrac Printer Account Client The Equitrac Account Monitor client application is a background application that is preinstalled on all of the Student Computer Lab PCs. You can find it in the Windows System Tray, shown below (Figure 5) as an icon of a printer and monitor. Figure 5. Equitrac system tray icon. The application can be brought to the foreground with a double-click on the system tray icon, displaying your current account balance as shown below (Figure 6). If you are permitted to charge print jobs to a research or instructional support budget, these additional options will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Your account balance reflects only your cash account balance. It does not reflect any printing charged to a different billing code.

When you submit a print job, the Equitrac Cost Preview windows will appear giving you a brief summary of your print job and the amount you will be charged (Figure 7, below). You must choose to either accept your print job and charge your account, or delete the print job which will not charge your account. Figure 7. Cost Preview window. Specifying Current Billing Code Some of you are permitted to charge print jobs to research or instructional support billing codes. Print jobs are charged to the currently selected billing code at the time of print job submission. You will not be prompted for a billing code with each print job. You should be aware of your selection before submitting print jobs. Note that your billing code selection is persistent, i.e. it will remain in effect until changed. Please be sure it is set to the proper billing code before submitting a print job.

5 Troubleshooting Is your print job not printing? Check the following items: Do you have a positive printing account balance? Check the Equitrac Account Monitor or warning. Is the printer you are checking for output the one to which you submitted the print job? Is the printer to which you submitted the job on-line and ready to print? You may need to press the Go (green) button to clear an error, or if an error condition is displayed on the printer, you may need to cycle power to force a printer reset. Have you checked to see if your print job is listed in the print queue? What is its status? If there is a mechanical problem with the printer, you might want to cancel your print job from that queue and submit it to another printer. Otherwise, you will be charged for the print job later when it finally prints. DO NOT resubmit your print job unnecessarily. You will be charged for all pages printed. If necessary, check with the computing support staff.
