1 CMLS 2009 Speakers Chris Bartel Green Key Real Estate Chris Bartle has been deeply influenced by the work of sustainable business leaders Paul Hawken and William McDonough. His mission is to help green homes across the country. Chris started Green Key as a way of achieving this goal. Chris is a licensed real estate broker in the State of California as well as a certified EcoBroker and Green Building Professional. In addition, Green Key Real Estate is a certified Green Business and a member of Co-Op America s Green Business Network. Prior to founding Green Key Real Estate, Chris had over 20 years of broad business experience. His entrepreneurial career began with starting The Evergreen Group, a sustainable business brokerage that he has been running since 2001 and continues to operate today. He was also a residential agent with Zephyr Real Estate in San Francisco. Brad Bjelke Rapattoni Corporation Brad Bjelke is a prominent executive and attorney within the MLS community. Mr. Bjelke joined Rapattoni Corporation, a leading provider of MLS and association management software, in 2005 and oversees the legal, contract administration, and human resources departments, in addition to managing the company s investor relations. Mr. Bjelke s expertise encompasses real estate technology and corporate law, and he works with associations and MLSs to incorporate new legal policies into Rapattoni s software and contracts. Mr. Bjelke came to Rapattoni after successful tenures at McKenna Long & Aldridge and Jackson DeMarco Tidus & Peckenpaugh, where he litigated numerous cases and served as outside counsel to a variety of large and small companies. Mr. Bjelke received his B.A. from California Lutheran University (summa cum laude) and his J.D. from Boston College Law School, where he was a member of the prestigious Boston College Law Review. Merri Jo Cowen My Florida Regional MLS Merri Jo has been involved in the real estate industry since 1979, starting her career as a resident manager, and earning the ARM designation through IREM. Upon relocating to Reno in 1983, she joined the REALTOR family as an MLS assistant for the Reno Board of REALTORS. During her 20 year tenure, she demonstrated progressive skills and a passion for all things MLS; she was quickly promoted through the ranks to MLS Director and ultimately VP of Operations for the Reno/Sparks Association of REALTORS. When the Northern Nevada Regional MLS was formed in 2003, Merri Jo was selected as the first CEO. In December of 2008, she was chosen to be the CEO for the Mid-Florida Regional MLS (now known as My Florida Regional MLS), a 30,000 member regional MLS based in Orlando. Merri Jo has served as a member of NARs MLS Issues/Policy Committee and holds the RCE designation. She has actively participated in too many industry related meetings to count, and has served on and chaired a vendor partner advisory committee. Merri Jo has been a long-standing member of CMLS and credits the organization s willing mentors for much of her success as an industry professional. She served as CMLS President in 2003, returned to the Board of Directors in 2007 and will be President-Elect in She is honored that MFRMLS is co-hosting CMLS2009 with the Northern Nevada Regional MLS. Bonnie Drinkwater Drinkwater Law Bonnie was a partner at one of Reno s largest law firms prior to becoming a small business owner and serial entrepreneur herself. She practices in the areas of business and corporate law, real estate law, employment law, and intellectual property law and has been legal counsel to the Northern Nevada Regional MLS since its inception. She holds dual degrees (cum laude) in Finance and International Management from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and a law degree (cum laude) from the University of Notre Dame. She was admitted into the Nevada Bar in 1994 and the Pennsylvania Bar in 1995 and is a member of the Intellectual Property and Business Law Sections of the American Bar Association; the State Bar of Nevada; and the Washoe County Bar Association.

2 Beverly Faull Business Critical Consulting Beverly M. Faull, President and founder of Business Critical Consulting, LLC, (BCC) brings over twenty (20) years of experience in leading performance driven real estate organizations and businesses, and places a high emphasis on customer satisfaction and sustained exceptional performance. Beverly has been a CEO and senior level executive in the real estate industry serving a REALTOR Association with a subsidiary MLS, a large Regional MLS and most recently served as the SVP and General Manager of the second largest MLS vendor company in the country. She was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women In Real Estate in Bud Fogel Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC Currently the CEO of Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC; Bud has a unique perspective concerning listing content aggregation and distribution resulting from 20 years as a broker/owner, continuous involvement with the development of broker-owned private MLS, broker governance of regional MLS and his experience as a long-standing director of the Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS). Bud has been a Realtor since 1972 with 29 years executive experience with MAP Multiple Listing Service Inc., a not for profit, broker-owned, content service provider, located in suburban Chicago. Recently MAP and (MLSNI) Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois, one of the largest, regional multiple listing services in the country, successfully consolidated the tow organizations, creating Midwest Real Estate Data. Amy Geddes Clareity Security Amy Geddes, Chief Operating Officer for Clareity Security and Clareity Consulting has over 15 years of management experience, including five years with Clareity Companies and seven years as the CEO of Intermountain Multiple Listing Service in Boise, ID. Geddes was responsible for driving a regionalization initiative during her tenure which doubled the number of MLS subscriber and significantly increased the geographic market area for the members. She has extensive experience in the MLS and association leadership models and has managed numerous technology system conversions including planning, implementation, training and support. Geddes uses social media as an outlet for her excess energy and random musings. Geddes leverages social media to strengthen existing relationships and grow new relationships both personally and professionally. David Gibbons Zillow As part of the marketing at Zillow, David manages the team responsible for customer service within the site and for keeping the peace in the community on Zillow. David is from Cape Town, South Africa and currently lives in Seattle. (Excerpt from Video Profile ) Kelly Goldstein Fannie Mae

3 Currently Associate General Counsel at Fannie Mae, Kelly serves as the principal counsel for data transactions, and also supports the company s credit initiatives. Kelly has a juris doctor from George Washington School of Law and a bachelor of arts, with honors in Political Science, from University of Rochester where she graduated cum laude. Prior to joining Fannie Mae in July 2002, Kelly was an associate in the Business Transactions group at the law firm DLA Piper, and before that, she worked as the lead attorney at Encore Software, and was counsel at Fox Family Worldwide in Los Angeles. Margy Grant Florida REALTORS Margaret Margy Grant is FAR s Director of Local Leadership Services. Although Margy has only been with FAR for six months she has been representing Realtors for eight years. She is both a CAE and RCE. Margy joined FAR from the Massachusetts Assoc of Realtors where she was the Associate General Counsel. For seven years she managed the state wide legal hotline as well as the professional standards program. Margy advised the MAR leadership and Board of Directors on a multitude of issues. Most recently she developed MAR s Loss Mitigation course on REOs and short sales. Margy is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School in Boston and is a member of the Bar in California, Massachusetts and Florida. Most importantly, however, Margy is a Mom of three: three year old twins Grace and Sean and their big brother, five year old Michael. Lloyd Graves RealAlliance Consulting Lloyd Graves is the Founder and President of RealAlliance Consulting, LLC. Lloyd established RealAlliance Consulting in February 2008, and is focused on helping Multiple Listing Services and industry vendors develop strategic alliances that allow each to maximize their individual strengths. Lloyd began his career in the real estate industry in 1976 as a salesman for Supra Products, Inc. where he consistently led the company in sales. In 1997, Lloyd was hired by Northwest Multiple Listing Service as Member Relations Manager. While at NWMLS, Lloyd led development of their first member website, online transaction forms, customer support department, their first call center, member communications and expansion of the MLS's service area from 2 counties to over 14 counties. In 2005, Lloyd joined HouseValues, Inc. to develop their MLS Business Relations Department. While at HouseValues, he expanded the number of MLS relationships from fewer than 20 to over 100. Lisa Herrin Hawaii Informaiton Service Lisa Herrin, Hawaii Information Service s Vice President of Product Strategy has nearly a decade of experience in the real estate information industries. Lisa has a successful proven track record in Business Development with extensive product and content development experience in the online Real Estate Technology industry. She has worked with such organizations as Advance Publication, AOL, At&t, BellSouth, Earthlink, FoxNews, Google, MRIS, NCI, Primedia, RealtyTrac, Trulia and Verizon. Lisa possesses an innate ability to identify revenue generating partnership opportunities with large strategic e-commerce and portal companies. Lisa has developed and managed several ground-breaking, successful new product initiatives.

4 Bradley Inman Founder & Publisher, Inman News Founder & Publisher, Inman News Bradley J. Inman is an entrepreneur, journalist and technology expert. TurnHere is the most recent company to be founded by Mr. Inman, famous for highlysuccessful Internet content businesses including Inman News and Homegain.com which he sold in 2005 to Classified Ventures. Through TurnHere.com, Mr. Inman has harnessed the rampant consumer acceptance of Internet video technology and is tapping a rich vein of new and creative filmmakers who operate in a new, low-cost, technology-rich environment. He is the founder and publisher of Inman News which delivers real-time real estate stories via the Internet to more than 50,000 newspapers and Web sites. Real Estate Connect, Inman s twice-yearly conference, attracts 1000 top executives from both technology and real estate. Mr. Inman has been a visiting fellow at the UC Berkeley School of Journalism, lecturer at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and sits on the BRIDGE Housing Board of Directors. Tom Jacobson Law Offices of Thomas Jacobson Tom Jacobson has over 30 years of experience working with organized real estate. He has represented both large and small associations, and regional multiple listing services. Tom represents the interests of brokers and agents in his real estate practice and has lectured and spoken on pertinent real estate topics around the world. His publications include practical articles on how to approach current real estate and environmental problems. Tom is a native Californian raised in the San Fernando Valley. He obtained his Bachelor of Science from Utah State University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah. Tom is a member of the California, Texas and Utah bars, as well as being admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, Court of Military Appeals, United States Tax Court. United States Court for the Northern District of Utah, United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, Eastern and Northern California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Joe Kazzoun Instanet Solutions Joe s career has focused on real estate technology for nearly 15 years. For most of his career he was the head of technology for large brokers such as Coldwell Banker of Northern California and Prudential California Realty, as well as for national real estate franchises including Century 21 and Keller Williams. Joe also worked as a Senior Consultant for Clareity Consulting, providing technology and strategy consulting to MLSs, associations and large brokerages. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, Joe spent several years away from his technology career as a successful, full time REALTOR. Joe has been with Instanet Solutions since August of Brian Larson Larson-Sobtoka Brian N. Larson is a business advisor and attorney based in Minneapolis. He shares two decades of real estate industry expertise with clients throughout the United States and Canada. Larson is managing partner of Larson/Sobotka PLLC, attorneys at law, and president of Larson/Sobotka Business Advisors LLC, a consulting firm serving MLSs and REALTOR Associations throughout the US. He is widely regarded as an expert on MLS operational and policy issues, and on issues related to the online marketing of residential real estate. He has delivered numerous presentations to associations, MLSs, and brokers regarding all these topics. He has written extensively on these subjects, and has been consulted and quoted by publications such as Inman News, Realty Times, and the Wall Street Journal. He is regarded as a leading expert on the implementation and effects of IDX, virtual office web sites, and listings syndication. MLSs and brokers regularly seek his counsel regarding the use of listing data on the Internet.

5 Gregg Larson Clareity Consulting Gregg Larson has 26 years experience in the MLS and real estate information industries, including market research, new product design, market development, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, MLS regionalization and governance, MLS system and vendor selection, transaction management software, and Internet consulting. In 2004, Gregg founded Clareity Security LLC, which quickly became the leading provider of information security technology and solutions to the real estate industry. Gregg is also an experienced public speaker, with numerous professional speaking engagements before real estate audiences worldwide. Gregg is highly respected throughout the real estate industry for his leadership, vision and creativity, new product design and marketing skills, and successful technology and Internet strategies. Gregg resides in Scottsdale, Arizona and has three children. Kevin McQueen Focus Forward Consulting Kevin McQueen is the President of Focus Forward Consulting, assisting executives and leadership of real estate organizations develop and achieve their goals. Victor Lund WAV Group Victor Lund is a founding partner of WAV Group, a prominent national consulting firm in the real estate industry with offices in California and New York. He ran business units in Vancouver, B.C. and in Pleasanton, CA before returning to Toronto and eventually taking charge of the Canadian operations of Moore Data in John and his family were transferred to Minneapolis in 1994 by Moore Data where he was named VP, Sales for North America. In addition to growing sales and building profitable online services business, he enjoyed P & L responsibility for the MLS Book, Tax and

6 Homes Magazines units of the company. In 1998, John was asked to take over leadership and direction of Cyberhomes, Moore s flagship real estate website. In early 2000, Moore Data Management was sold to VistaInfo and John decided to move on to new challenges. John Mosey has been the President and CEO of the Regional MLS of MN, Inc. for the past 6 years and can say with great sincerity that his search for new challenges continues to be realized daily. Rob Overman LPS Real Estate Group Rob started building property data and GIS systems in 1995 at Virtual Information Systems. Rob also worked as a developer building MLS systems at Terradatum, Homeseekers.com and Fidelity National Information Solutions. Rob was the Chief Technology Officer at REBIG, LLC, where he designed systems for the aggregation, distribution and security of licensed MLS data. Rob returned to Fidelity in 2005 as CTO and Vice President of MLS Technologies where he was responsible for the technical teams supporting the Paragon, Paragon XL and REXplorer MLS systems. Rob s currently works as Vice President of New Technologies with the LPS Real Estate Group, where he leads research and development of new products and services. Kimberly R. Pontius Traverse City Association of REALTORS Since October 2007 Kimberly Pontius has been the Executive Vice President for the Traverse Area Association of REALTORS. He has a passion for transportation and environmental subjects. Formerly he was an Executive Director of Workforce and Economic Development Services division of the Ivy Tech Community College system of Indiana where he acted as a liaison to Indiana s rural economic development taskforce. Mr. Pontius also served twenty six years in the tool/die and high volume machining industry as a manufacturing engineer and operations management specialist. He has a Masters degree in Public Management through Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs and is a graduate of Indiana Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management. Kim is also a graduate of the Earlham College Institute of Executive Training, a founding member of the Indiana SATSLab, a jointly funded program between the FAA, NASA and the National Consortium for Air Mobility and a member of the Indiana High Speed Rail initiative. Greg Robertson W&R Studios Greg recently co-founded W&R Studios. W&R Studios is a privately held software company focusing on creating the next generation of web-based software solutions for the real estate industry. W&R Studios first software application, Dwellicious, was a finalist in Inman News Most Innovative Technology for Greg has been in the real estate technology industry for over 17 years. His first company, IRIS, created the popular brand of Lightning software applications. IRIS eventually made Inc. Magazine Inc. 500 list of the fastest -growing private companies in America and was sold to HomeSeekers.com in Greg then led the sales and marketing team, and later became the General Manager, of eneighborhoods. Greg has been listed in Inman News 25 most influential Bloggers:2008 report for his industry blog VendorAlley.com and sits as a corporate director of Council of MLS (CMLS). Larry Romito Quality Service Certification Larry is president and CEO of Quality Service Certification, Inc. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois (Urbana) and an MBA from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.

7 He began his business career in 1970 and has benefitted from experiences with both independent real estate companies as well as national franchise organizations. In 1986 Larry started and operated a successful real estate brokerage, growing to seven offices and 350 associates with 18% market share in only four years, ultimately being acquired by Coldwell Banker. He has been an EVP for both Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and Prudential Real Estate Affiliates. He was inducted to the REBAC Hall of Fame in 2000 and served as the 2002 President of CRB. Larry is the founder of Quality Service Certification, Inc., the leading provider of training, technology and resources for delivery of measurably superior service and customer satisfaction in the real estate industry. In the first quarter of 2009, QSC, Inc. expanded into the home care and assisted living industries where its 10 years of quality service management experience are being adapted to measurably impact the care and service quality of selected health care market segments. Shelley Specchio Northern Nevada Regional MLS In December 2008, Shelley was hired as CEO of the Northern Nevada Regional MLS, filling the vacancy left by her long time friend and mentor. Previously Shelley held the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing, a position she accepted upon the forming of the Regional MLS in Shelley began her career within the REALTOR family in 1994, producing a popular bi-weekly real estate publication as a member service of the Reno/Sparks Association of REALTORS. Shelley has flourished under the collaborative environment of this profession where she has found colleagues to be generous in sharing their experience and knowledge. Her dedication to superior service and open management style has allowed her the privilege of helping to build a vibrant and progressive organization. A Nevada native, Shelley has her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada, Reno with an emphasis on Marketing. She proudly holds a position on NARs MLS Issues and Policies Committee. She is honored and grateful for the opportunity to co-host CMLS2009. Elizabeth Sobotka Larson-Sobotka Elizabeth S. Sobotka is a business advisor and attorney based in Minneapolis. She has more than fifteen years of experience leading complex consulting projects to successful conclusions, on-time and within budget, for clients throughout the United States. Ms. Sobotka is a partner in Larson/Sobotka PLLC, attorneys at law, and managing director of Larson/Sobotka Business Advisors LLC, a consulting firm serving MLSs and REALTOR associations throughout the U.S. She has more than 15 years of experience advising corporate clients in strategy, marketing, and operations. She has diverse consulting and management experience, specializing in financial and professional services including insurance and healthcare. Her proven areas of strength include strategy, process reengineering, and project management. Her legal background includes experience developing MLS rules and agreements, assisting clients with trademark registration and enforcement of rights, resolving domain name disputes, and in mediation, arbitration, and professional standards administration. She holds baccalaureate, master, and juris doctor degrees. Darity Wesley Privacy Solutions Chief Executive Officer and Legal Counsel of Privacy Solutions, Inc. is a 20 plus year veteran of the public record and real estate information industry. An attorney, business consultant, and California real estate broker based in San Diego, California, she is the founder of Privacy Solutions, Inc. a company which provides advice and counsel to clients throughout the United States. They specialize in Internet law, privacy, information security, technology licensing and data use compliance. Darity s specialty is to guide Multiple Listing Services, Associations of REALTORS, real estate brokerage firms, public record retrievers, government agencies, title insurance companies and a variety of technology companies through the maze of today s privacy and information security, intellectual property and licensing and compliance issues.

8 Wes Wiggins Tucson Association of REALTORS, MLS Wes has been at the Tucson Association of Realtors, MLS for 5 years, and has been working closely with Fannie Mae on improving the Short Sale process. Prior to working at MLS he was a Manufacturing Supervisor at Texas Instruments. Wes has a son, William, who just turned 20. Active in community leadership and charity efforts, Wes enjoys travel and making new friends. Marilyn Wilson WAV Group Marilyn Wilson has had a career of successes by creating winning products and services for some of the world s most highly respected brands. As the VP of Global Marketing, Product Management and Strategic Planning for Fisher-Price toys, she was the company s leading change agent, launching over 1000 products, four new divisions and their highly successful ecommerce division. Later, as the CEO of Surveyor Corp., a leading provider of web camera software and services, Marilyn transitioned the company from a think tank into a viable commercial organization. Marilyn is now a founding partner in the WAV Group, a leading real estate consulting firm. She brings fresh thinking along with her expertise at strategic planning, consumer satisfaction, marketing and product development to MLSs and technology vendors, helping them take their organizations to new levels. Marilyn is a graduate of Cornell University. She serves on the President s Council of Cornell Women, WITI (Women in Technology International), and is a contributor to the best-selling management book, At The Helm.
