1 WEFMAX 2014 Strategic Planning Carl Janson, Chair

2 Vision Statement The HOD Vision is to be a collective voice and highly effective advocate of MAs and other WEF member constituencies, and trusted advisor to Board of Trustees regarding policies, programs and strategic direction to serve the best interests and needs of WEF members and help make WEF essential to water professionals around the world.

3 Mission Statement The HOD will solicit and secure critical input from MAs and other WEF member constituencies regarding policies, programs and strategic direction of WEF, identify critical issues and member needs, develop potential solutions, propose changes and new initiatives, recommend qualified leadership to the Board of Trustees, and provide timely feedback and recommendations to help make WEF essential to water professionals around the world.

4 Critical Objectives Define, strengthen and communicate the role and duties of the Federation Delegates to the MAs, constituencies, and individual members Create a sound organizational structure, policies and procedures that provides for continuity and sustainability from year to year as well as for the long-term Utilize the HOD to disseminate its Workgroup Findings and recommendations as well as WEF initiatives to individual MAs and constituencies Utilize WEFMAX as a resource for generating collaborative opinions from several MAs and constituencies as to those initiatives which should be evaluated further through the HOD Standing Committees and/or Workgroups and where applicable for recommendation to the WEF Board of Trustees.

13 Improve HOD Meetings & Workgroups GOAL: MAKE THE ENTIRE HOD MEETING DAY A POSITIVE AND REWARDING EXPERIENCE Engagement Distribute data for comment prior to the HOD Meeting at WEFTEC so that it can be reviewed and commented on Provide more interaction and discussion rather than just presentations through dedicated question/comment portion of the meeting Networking breaks or table activities Involve participants of committees more in the planning discussion topic development and meeting buy in Buddy up experienced and new delegates through HOD Meeting, Workgroup and potentially WEFTEC

14 Improve HOD Meetings & Workgroups Effective Planning Rather than provide only general topics for discussion, provide target topics that are more focused. Develop Resource Center or Library for helpful information storage including presentations and meeting minutes Combined as much as possible in the morning and afternoon meeting to effectively use volunteer time. More direct involvement of WEF staff and officers.

15 Improve HOD Meetings & Workgroups Education Provide training of new HOD members (HOD business meeting versus Workgroup interactive meeting) Provide information ahead of meeting for review including target topics and issues that will required MA feedback. Send potential new delegates to WEFMAX or WEFTEC prior to their first Delegate year.

16 Improve HOD Meetings & Workgroups GOAL: GET DELEGATES IN THE RIGHT WORKGROUP FOR THEM AND KEEP DELEGATES ON TRACK AFTER WEFTEC Provide an avenue for Delegates to find out more about each topic prior to WEFTEC Selection of each workgroup topic as early as possible Select both a chair and vice chair prior to WEFTEC Issue one page guide for new chairs Issue a schedule of deliverables Set a monthly meeting on a set date to keep Delegates engaged Provide a set format for all reports
