1 AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-Based (CCS-P ) AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-Based (CCS-P ) What is the CCS-P certification and exam? The Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-Based (CCS-P ) is a competency-based (knowledge and experience) credential that is designed to validate the skills and knowledge of physician-based coding professionals and demonstrates the mastery of CCS-P responsibilities that support business growth and quality health care. Who should take the CCS-P exam? Professionals specializing in medical coding in physician-based settings such as physician offices, group practices, multi-specialty clinics, or specialty centers who: Review patient records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure Possess in-depth knowledge of the current procedural terminology (CPT) coding system and familiarity with the ICD10- diagnostic (CM) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II coding systems Are experts in health information documentation, data integrity, and quality Play a critical role in a health providers business operations, reimbursement, and growth Why take the CCS-P? 2 Eligibility Requirements: Candidates must meet one of the following eligibility requirements: Current RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credential holder OR Completion of a coding training program that includes anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, reimbursement methodology, intermediate/advanced ICD diagnostic/procedural and CPT coding; OR Minimum of two years of related coding experience directly applying codes; OR Current CCA credential holder and one year of coding experience directly applying codes; OR Current holder of a coding credential from another certifying organization and one year coding experience directly applying codes. Where do I take the exam? Candidates can only test in their country of residence at an AHIMA authorized location. What is the CCS-P Exam Prep Workshop? This two day, hands-on workshop will be taught by experienced AHIMA trainers and help you to prepare for the certification exam by reviewing the knowledge domains covered in the exam. 7 AHIMA ICD-10-PCS Coding Basics Training Workshop AHIMA ICD-10-PCS Coding Basics Training Workshop This workshop is recommended for coding professionals who want to increase their knowledge of procedure coding and take the CCS examination. AHIMA member - 799$ USD; Non-member 899$- USD * All participants will receive a free AHIMA membership for one (1) year. Developed specifically for ICD-10-CM coding professionals who have not had training or experience in using ICD-10-PCS (procedure codes), this course will provide foundational training in ICD10- procedure coding. This course is not an exam preparation course but is recommended for ICD-10-CM coding professionals who wish to become competent in PCS training and ultimately take the AHIMA CCS examination. Participants should be experienced in coding and have completed coursework in anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology. 8 Course Length and Content This two day course will include: A discussion of resources, references, definitions and guidelines for ICD-10-PCS Review ICD-10-PCS root operations - Procedures that take out or eliminate all or a portion of a body part - Procedures that take out solids/fluids/gases from a body part - Procedures that alter the diameter/route of a tubular body part - Procedures that always involve a device - Procedures that define other repairs ICD-10-PCS and Advanced Case Scenarios - Detailed and/or complex cases/scenarios using ICD-10-PCS Procedure Codes - Detailed and/or complex cases/scenarios using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes: Obstetrics, Placement, Administration, Measurement and Monitoring, Extracorporeal Assistance and Performance, Extracorporeal Therapies, Osteopathic, Other Procedures, and Chiropractic - Ancillary sections of PCS
