To have a new host is very important to the nation itself but also to the growth of female hockey as a sport. I believe that the Swiss team, who finished fifth at last year s Olympics, is eager to show that they have made a step closer to the world leaders in women s hockey. The Finnish team is looking to continue the medal streak that started from the 2008 World Women Championship in China. After that, the Finnish Lionesses have claimed bronze medals also at 2009 World Women Championship and 2010 Olympic Games. During this season, the team has spent a lot of time together and played many tournaments with great success. The team is well prepared and ready to challenge the North American teams. As for the Finnish female hockey overall, the prospect looks very bright. In January Finland took it s first medal at the IIHF World Women U18 Championship. The historical bronze medal gives a tremendous boost also to the women s team. On behalf of Finnish Ice Hockey Association I want to wish all the participating teams success in the tournament may the best team win. Kalervo Kummola President Finnish Ice Hockey Association 2

It is hard to imagine a more perfect inaugural season: stellar play for Blues Espoo in the Finnish League and the European Women s Champions Cup which earned her the award for the best goaltender of the Finnish League and a call to the 2010 Olympics. Anna was a part of the silver winning Finnish national team in the 2011 Universiade and played 5 games.
