3 Video and Intellect Search modules now on 64-bit platforms We see two trends today at complex, geographically scattered client sites: 1 2 More and more cameras are being installed, often at Full HD resolutions. Forensic analysis of video is coming into the forefront, with smart search-capable detection tools already automating security tasks at railways, municipal infrastructure, underground mass transit, strategically important manufacturing plants, and more. STARTING WITH VERSION 4.9, INTELLECT TRANSMITS VIDEO AND PERFORMS FORENSIC SEARCH OF RECORDED VIDEO ON 64-BIT COMPUTING PLATFORMS. GET SET FOR PERFORMANCE TO TRULY TAKE OFF! To support these hardware and functionality demands while maintaining performance, the security system must meet certain requirements: Display a large number of cameras simultaneously (100 or more). Display a large number of cameras in Full HD resolution simultaneously (50 or more cameras with 5 MP resolution). Support a large number of concurrently running detection tools, tracking 25 or more objects simultaneously. This set a high bar for the amount of RAM needed on computers and servers for monitoring, which means that 32-bit modules can t keep up with the flood of data needed for video display, event indexing, and analysis. A current system with a 32-bit module, running trackers and other forensic video analysis tools, can support a maximum of only 16 cameras, since 50 MB is required for the work of just one tracker. These numbers get bigger quickly: if HD cameras are installed at the site in question, then supporting 16 cameras requires 1.5 GB of RAM. And this does not even include additional processes that must be performed non-stop in real time! The new version of Intellect introduces 64-bit support for video and the video metadata database (VMDA*). Here is what we have ported over to 64 bits: video.run and vmdadb.run modules Codecs Drivers for IP cameras Drivers for video capture cards * VMDA is an exclusive AxxonSoft innovation, consisting of a database for indexing and storing a description of what is happening in the scene monitored by a camera, which means that metadata (a description of how objects are moving in the frame) is written to disk at the same time that video is recorded. This data can then be quickly searched to pinpoint specific parts of the recorded video. 3

4 64-bit versions of the Video and Intellect Search modules blow away the RAM limits that are inherent to 32-bit systems. This flexibility is essential at large and geographically dispersed sites, as well as at sites that make extensive use of HD video and forensic detection tools. 64- bit modules offer a performance boost of 10% or more over 32-bit modules, which can mean enormous savings especially at large sites. BY REDUCING THE NUMBER OF COMPUTERS NEEDED TO SUPPORT A GIVEN NUMBER OF CAMERAS, THIS 64-BIT MODERNIZATION CAN HAVE A SUBSTANTIAL POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE BOTTOM LINE. Multistreaming: one IP camera, many video streams With today s complex security systems spanning large geographical areas and huge numbers of cameras, combined with requirements to keep long-term archives at HD quality, the load on both server and client computers is growing in unprecedented ways. If left unchecked, this growing load can bog down your system and increase maintenance costs. What s more, different clients can connect in different ways via Wi-Fi, remotely via the Internet, and so forth which makes it important to offer a variety of streams at different resolutions that can be chosen from based on bandwidth. Intellect 4.9 is capable of multistreaming, which means that it can offer several video streams from a single camera simultaneously. This is our way of meeting the market demand to make integrated security systems less expensive and more resource-efficient. It used to be that software knew only how to offer a single stream at a single resolution from any given camera. Every operation, from video recording to forensic analysis and sharing with client computers, had to use this one stream. But these days, almost all cameras can send two or more video streams at once. So multistreaming lets you perform multiple tasks without overloading the CPU of the client computer: it is possible, for example, to display lower-quality video on a viewing screen for real-time monitoring. But at the very same time, video can be saved at higher quality to an archive, with a crisper picture and better details in case analysis is required later. 4 INTELLECT 4.9 New tools, new heights in performance and effectiveness

5 Most competing solutions support only two video streams: one for recording, one for display. But Intellect 4.9 goes further, with the server able to receive up to four video streams, which can be used for three different purposes: For display on a local monitor and for streaming to remote workstations For archive recording For video analytics Multistreaming is crucial if you want to support mobile clients: to avoid a crippling load on the web server, Intellect selects the stream with the lowest resolution for display on the mobile client. MULTISTREAMING MAKES SYSTEMS MORE FUNCTIONAL AND PERFORM BETTER, WHILE MAKING THEM COST LESS AS WELL. BY DEDICATING A STREAM FOR VIDEO ANALYTICS, YOU CAN APPLY THE FULL RANGE OF ABILITIES OF FORENSIC VIDEO ANALYSIS AT YOUR SITE. Green Stream: dynamic selection of streams for display on remote workstations Multistreaming makes the most of its potential when combined with Green Stream, which automatically selects the most efficient video stream that can meet the resolution needs of the current task. IP cameras can stream at different resolutions and frame rates. But on remote monitoring workstations, camera video is not always displayed at full resolution. Let s say that the workstation screen is 1920x1080 pixels and contains a layout of 4x3 cameras (12 cameras total). So there s no benefit (but lots of wasted bandwidth!) to streaming full-resolution video streams to the workstation, which then still has to unpack these massive video streams and rescale them to 480x360 resolution. The system automatically selects the smallest stream with sufficient resolution for display on the relevant screen. And if the user decides to view camera video at full-screen size, a high-resolution stream is automatically chosen. This means that Green Stream is a no-fuss feature that flexibly adapts to system conditions, making Intellect-powered surveillance «fly» even faster. As an added benefit, CPU cycles are freed up on servers and monitoring workstations. This allows using less powerful computers for these tasks, or handling more video streams on a single computer. And both of these options save you money. 5

6 Direct-to-camera connections for display video Some sites with integrated security systems and multiple remote operator workstations still suffer from bandwidth constraints. This is especially common for geographically scattered sites that are in poorly accessible regions with spotty Internet coverage. As of Intellect 4.9, remote computers can request live video in low resolution directly from a camera, and display this video on-screen. Modern IP cameras can handle multiple clients (not just one) simultaneously, using multicasting to send a stream to everyone who requires it. In version 4.9, a remote computer with the IP Driver Pack from Intellect can get video from a camera and display it directly on the remote monitor, bypassing the server to which the camera is connected. If the camera is in multistreaming mode, a stream can be selected for display. If a high-resolution stream is needed for later analysis, it is possible to get it from the server via Green Stream. Direct-to-camera connections from a remote workstation, bypassing the server, work best when the camera is multicasting-enabled and the camera driver supports this ability. CONNECTING DIRECT-TO-CAMERA SAVES RESOURCES, REDUCING THE SERVER LOAD AND EASING SERVER PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS. ios mobile client for remote management We know how important it is to have the capacity to manage video surveillance remotely, in order to react quickly to alarms and sudden events. For Intellect 4.9, we have developed a mobile client that allows remotely monitoring everything that goes on at your site, including: Live video (with audio) from any camera Viewing of previously recorded video (with audio) as well as search Information about alarms Interactive maps Macros for preconfigured responses to events Object management (arm/disarm cameras and sensors, start/stop camera recording, etc.) Push notifications about events There s one more thing, too: the Intellect client app supports full duplex sound. You can view and hear what is going on at the site, but you can also (via loudspeaker) communicate by voice to people within hearing range. What you say is relayed either through the IP camera s onboard microphone or through the external microphone connected to the IP device. Remotely accessing Intellect via the client app, you can transmit your voice via loudspeaker (loudspeakers are usually connected to IP devices as well). The operator on the mobile client can visually survey the object and relay information on errors or intrusions to specialists at the central monitoring hub: for example, if a person approaches the site gates, the operator can hear what the person says and give a reply. Full duplex sound makes it much, much quicker for the operator to react to real-world situations. 7 FULL DUPLEX SOUND IN THE INTELLECT 4.9 MOBILE CLIENT APP IS A LIFE-SAVER AT LARGE SITES: YOU CAN COMMUNICATE WITH STAFF IN AN AFFECTED AREA IN REAL TIME, FOR EXAMPLE. Support for video capture cards with hardware compression (standard and HD) Video capture cards with hardware compression can simplify the infrastructure for systems with many cameras and make more efficient use of computer resources. These supercharged cards can also put some «oomph» back in old hardware and make video recording servers go faster than ever before. By compressing video directly on-card, these cards ease the requirements for computer hardware considerably. Intellect 4.9 offers support for SC590N4 analog video capture card, which perform hardware compression to offload CPU-intensive tasks to dedicated components. Integration for hardware compression frees up CPU capacity on servers that record live HD video, which in turn allows running more video analytics tools. Now servers can support more cameras and streams, since previously these tools could be used only for servers with a handful of connected cameras. HARDWARE COMPRESSION ON VIDEO CAPTURE CARDS CAN LIGHTEN CPU LOADS BY MORE THAN 90%. Motion Wavelet codec optimized for HD Motion Wavelet is a video compression algorithm specially designed for video surveillance systems, based on wavelet conversion, and is used in Intellect. The size of video streams is reduced dramatically, making video surveillance more efficient. This offers several benefits for both standard-resolution and Full HD video, thanks to interframe and intraframe compression: Average frame size in recorded video is small. Video streams can be recompressed for remote clients. Dropped packets are unlikely to stop video playback. Stream frames can be separately pruned for each user. Each recorded frame has high evidentiary value. Video automatically scales based on the resolution of the video playback tile. WITH UNIQUE MOTION WAVELET TECHNOLOGY IN INTELLECT 4.9, THE SIZE OF VIDEO STREAMS CAN BE REDUCED BY 80% AND AS MUCH AS 97% EVEN FOR FULL HD CAMERAS. THE RESULT?
