Dr.Radhakrishnan has rightly pointed out in his University Education Commission Report that among all the components of University Education System, it is the Examination component which needs immediate and intensive attention. As everyone is aware, evaluation remains the vital part of the Education Trinity. The conduct of Examinations becomes an important function of the University besides Teaching and Research Extension. To conduct Examinations in variety of subjects for a number of students in various colleges spread over four districts needs meticulous planning and careful implementation. I am very much confident that this calendar will ensure effective communication between the University, the Principals, staff and students of various affiliated colleges, and thus help the smooth conduct of examinations. It is my earnest belief and hope that this kind of scientific planning, mutual consultations and effective co-ordination of all concerned will ensure that the April-2015 Examinations will be conducted smoothly and the results published as per schedule. I appreciate the Controller of Examinations and all the Principals for their understanding and co-operation in this regard. The Examination Wing in our University has been effectively serving the student community thanks to the constructive support, meticulous planning and feed-back and active encouragement extended by our Hon ble Vice-Chancellor, who is a renowned educationalist, fully aware of the importance of University Examinations System. By leaving no stone unturned for the total growth of the Institution in all its spheres, the Vice-Chancellor takes the right lead setting herself as an ideal role model for all the officers and employees of the University. I take this opportunity to make an appeal to all the Principals and Staff-both teaching and non-teaching faculty of all colleges to ensure proper Co-ordination in planning and execution of all examination related work. I am optimistic that a careful analysis and strict adherence to the meticulous planning of this calendar by all concerned will certainly ensure smooth conduct of examinations at every stage thus making possible the publication of results in time and as per schedule. It is my earnest request to all Principals to take a careful and meticulous note of the Instructions to CHIEF SUPERINTENDENTS, INVIGILATORS and SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS and bring them to the notice of all concerned by taking sufficient Xerox copies I shall be happy to receive constructive suggestions from all corners for possible improvement. Again I shall remain thankful if the errors, if any, are brought to my notice for rectification. 4 MADURAI KAMARAJ UNIVERSITY EXAMINATIONS INSTRUCTIONS TO CHIEF SUPERINTENDENTS 1. The forenoon session of the examination commences at a.m. and the afternoon examination commences at 2.00 p.m. Persons not connected to the examination should strictly not be allowed inside the examination halls. 2. The Invigilators should be specifically informed to verify that each candidate should write their Register Number and Subject Code at the appropriate place in the answerscript exactly and legibly without overwriting as given in the Hall Ticket. 3. While leaving the office of the Chief Superintendent before the commencement of the examination, the invigilators should be requested to check the number of question papers and answer books received. 4. The Invigilators must be given clear instructions that while collecting the answerscripts they have to ensure that answerscripts have been collected from all the candidates and also signed by the Invigilators in the answer books and additional sheets. 5. Chief Superintendents should ensure that unused question papers and answer books are collected from the Invigilators 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination in each session. No candidate is permitted to enter the hall 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination and any candidate may be permitted to leave the hall only after 30 minutes of the commencement of the examination. 6. There will be one Invigilator for a group of 25 candidates and part thereof. 7. No person whose dependent is a candidate for this examination should, in any way, be associated with the conduct of the examination. 8. Seating arrangements should be completed a day before the date of the examinations. Seating arrangements should be convenient. Proper care must be taken that students belonging to the same subject should not be seated together. 9. Drinking water facility should be made available to the candidates in the examination rooms or adjacent to the examination room. 10. Before opening the Question Paper Packets, it should be verified that the required number of question papers have been received in all subjects with the relevant Code Numbers and dates of Examinations, for which the candidates have been registered at the centre. ii

5 11. The Invigilator should be informed that the signature of the candidate should be obtained in the attendance sheet prescribed and the Hall Ticket of each candidate should be checked with the photograph pasted on his/her Hall Ticket. 12. No candidate should be allowed to appear in a subject for which he / she has not registered. 13. Bell would be rung as indicated below: i) 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination. ii) iii) iv) At the commencement of the examination. 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination. Ten minutes before the end of the examination. v) At the end of examination. 14. The disabled students will be given one hour extra time for each paper. Such candidates are not allowed to bring their own amanuensis. 15. If any candidate is found using unfair means in the examination, a report about the same and the incriminating material, if any, recovered from the candidate should be forwarded to the University addressed by name to the Controller of Examinations along with the statement duly signed by the candidate and countersigned by the Invigilator. 16. The Chief Superintendent of the examination should not leave the centre till the conclusion of the examination and completion of sealing and safe deposit of the answerscript packets and other documents. 17. All the answerscripts for each subject should be packed separately and care should be taken to arrange the papers inside the packet neatly in the ascending order of the Register Number exactly as indicated in the foil cards. 18. The absentees statement showing for all the examinations held at the centre, should be sent separately addressed to the Controller of Examinations. 19. Special care should be taken while packing the answer scripts so as to avoid mixing of papers with different subject codes. iii

6 INSTRUCTIONS TO INVIGILATORS 1. The forenoon session of examination commences at a.m. and the afternoon session at 2.00 p.m. 2. The Invigilator should reach the hall at 9.45 a.m. / 1.45 p.m. sharp along with the question papers and answerscripts. 3. The answerscripts should be distributed at 9.45 a.m. / 1.45 p.m. so as to allow the candidates to fill in all the information in the answerscript. 4. The question paper should be distributed to the candidates sharp at a.m. / 2.00 p.m. soon after the bell rings. 5. No candidate will be allowed to enter the room after a.m. / 2.30 p.m. and allowed to leave the room before a.m. / 2.30 p.m. 6. The Invigilator should ask the candidates to : a) Check that the answer books supplied to them are not defective and if so, to secure another copy from the Invigilator in lieu of the first one. b) Check the question paper with reference to page numbers, code number / subject code and title of the paper. c) Check that the Register Number, as exactly given in the Hall Ticket, is written by the candidate in the appropriate place in the answerscript and that the digits are written legibly without over-writing. 7. In no case an Invigilator should receive the answerscript back from any candidate without verifying the Register Number written by the candidate. 8. The Hall Ticket of each candidate should be checked with his/her photograph pasted and the signature signed in the attendance sheet. 9. The discrepancy in the Register Number / Signature of the candidate if detected, should be informed immediately to the Chief Superintendent. iv

7 10. In case a candidate is found using unfair means in the examination, the matter should be reported to the Chief Superintendent immediately. 11. The Bell would be rung as indicated below: i) 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination. ii) iii) iv) At the commencement of the examination. 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination. Ten minutes before the end of the examination. v) At the end of examination. 12. No candidate should be allowed to bring cellular (mobile) satellite phone, pager etc. inside the examination hall. 13. No candidate should be allowed to have tea/refreshment in the examination hall / room. 14. No candidate should be allowed to write any matter on the question paper. 15. Only after carefully verifying the Register Number, title of the paper, subject code and date written by the candidate, the Invigilator should sign the answerscript. 16. No candidate should be allowed to take the answerscript or any other material out of the examination hall / room. The answerscripts should be collected immediately after the examination is over. Candidates are not allowed to leave the examination hall during the last 10 minutes of the examination. 17. The disabled students will be given one hour extra time for each paper and such candidates are not allowed to bring their own amanuensis. (As per letter No. 7059/K1/ dated of Hr. Edn. Dept., Chennai-9) 18. The Invigilators must count the answerscripts and cross check them once again with the attendance of the candidates before leaving the examination hall / room. These must be handed over to the Chief Superintendent after proper checking in his / her office. 19. Special care should be taken while entering attendance mark of the candidates in the attendance sheet. v

8 SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. The time schedule prescribed in the consolidated time-table is subject to change in case of exigencies of unforeseen circumstances. viz., Strike, bandh, sudden declaration of holidays etc. The Controller of Examinations will notify the alternative date and time of examination in the event of such exigencies. 2. Omission of subject, if any, noticed in the consolidated time table may be brought to the notice of the Controller of Examinations for rectification. 3. If any candidate / Chief Superintendent wishes to make complaints / raise doubts relating to the examination schedule, he/she may contact the Controller of Examinations either by post or in person to get their doubts cleared. Postal representation in this regard should be addressed to the Controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai REVALUATION: Instructions for applying Transparency (i.e. Xerox copy of the valued answer scripts) / Direct Revaluation. 4.1 If a candidate needs the Xerox copy of the answerscript(s) he/she should apply for the same in form A. 4.2 The new pattern of Transparency of answer script(s) / Direct Revaluation are admissible to the following disciplines of Examinations conducted by the University. a) All Under Graduate and Professional (B.A./B.Sc.,/B.Com.,/B.B.A., etc., and B.E./ B.G.L./B.L.I.Sc., B.Ed.,) Semester, and Non-semester, Degree Courses. b) All post Graduate and Professional Degree Course (M.A./M.Sc.,/M.Com.,/ M.B.A. / M.C.A., etc. and M.E. / M.Ed. / M.L.I.Sc. / M.Phil. (Semester and Non-Semester) c) Pre-foundation, Foundation I year and II year Courses. 4.3 No provision for revaluation for General Knowledge paper / Environmental Studies / Certificate / Diploma/ P.G. Diploma and also for Research Degrees like M.Litt. and Ph.D. 4.4 The Transparency of answerscripts / Direct revaluation will be applicable only for FOUR PAPERS in a sitting irrespective of the number of semester papers appeared by the candidate for the particular examination under Semester system. 4.5 THREE TYPES of application forms are available in the University. i) FORM A for applying only for transparency of answerscript(s). Fee for each paper is Rs. 400/- vi

9 ii) FORM B for applying only for revaluation AFTER GETTING the Xerox copy of the answerscript(s). Fee for each paper is Rs. 400/- iii) FORM C for applying for DIRECT revaluation. Fee for each paper is Rs. 400/- 4.6 After going through the answerscript(s) the candidate should apply in form - B for revaluation within 10 days from the date of receipt of Xerox copy of answerscript(s). 4.7 Candidates can apply for transparency of answerscript(s) / Direct revaluation directly to the University within 15 days from the date of publication of results in the website. 4.8 The fee should be paid only by Demand Draft drawn in favour of the REGISTRAR MADURAI KAMARAJ UNIVERSITY payable at Madurai. The fee once paid will not be refunded or adjusted for subsequent examinations under any circumstances. 4.9 The duly filled-in-application should be addressed to the CONTROLLER OF EXAMINATIONS, MADURAI KAMARAJ UNIVERSITY, MADURAI Defective and Late Applications will summarily be rejected Candidates who have applied for revaluation need not wait for the result of the revaluation. To be on the safeside, they must register for the next examination within the stipulated time. 5. CHECKING OF ADDITION OF MARKS 5.1 Candidates who failed in the examination or who were expecting more marks could also apply for checking of addition of marks. Such applications will be entertained upto 10 days from the date of publication of results. 5.2 The fee prescribed for checking addition of marks is Rs. 60/- for each paper. 5.3 This provision of checking of addition of mark is available for both U.G. and P.G. Semester candidates. 6. Name corrections/spelling corrections, if any, may be carried in the Nominal Roll carefully. The attested Xerox Copy of the H.Sc. Marks Statement may be sent along with the Nominal Roll. vii
