6 RF15 Distinguished listeners, the automotive markets worldwide have changed a lot in the past few years. I am talking about the increasing amount of electronics in vehicles, the growing importance of the emerging markets like India, China, and Russia, the high diesel proportion and ageing vehicle stocks in Europe, as well as global environmental and resource debates. These developments also have effects on our workshop business. In order to keep up with these changes, we not only have to offer innovative products, but also ensure that the product portfolio and our presence on the individual markets are optimally oriented. Bosch Automotive Aftermarket offers vehicle workshops worldwide spare parts, modern testing and diagnosis technology, as well as and this is becoming more and more important data and technical expertise. In addition, this division coordinates the world's largest workshop network in the independent workshop market. There are now more than 14,000 Bosch Car Service centers in 141 countries. In 2007, sales from the Bosch Automotive Aftermarket division amounted to around EUR 3.3 billion. The market for vehicle products relevant for us had a volume of around EUR 38.6 billion over the same period. At the end of 2007, around 5000 employees worldwide were employed in the Bosch Automotive Aftermarket division, 1900 of these in Germany. 2

7 RF15 We want to offer our customers an optimal product portfolio and so continue to grow in the future. We will firstly attain this goal through innovations you only have to think of our electronic diagnosis testers and the excellent corresponding workshop software Esitronic. But growth can not be obtained by innovations alone. Therefore, we are also continuing to pursue our acquisitions policy, which has the sectoral and regional balancing out of the business as its aim. Therefore, in the past two years, we have acquired several companies and established several joint ventures. In this way, we add to our product and service range and either open up new markets or cover existing ones better. Complete product range in the areas of wheel alignment, brake testing and tire service equipment A declared growth area for Bosch is diagnostics. A sustainable expansion of our world market share in diagnostics is only possible in the medium term via external growth. Therefore, we expanded this area in April 2007 with the acquisitions of Beissbarth GmbH of Munich and the Italian Sicam s.r.l. Beissbarth will be familiar to you as a manufacturer of equipment for chassis alignment and brake testing. In addition, it also distributes tire service equipment. In the case of Sicam, by contrast, the main emphasis is on the production and sale of tire service equipment. In this way, we can offer our customers in vehicle workshops worldwide an even broader product range and cover the whole area of wheel service with our workshop technology. 3

8 RF15 Diagnosis products for emerging markets The change in the automotive market is also apparent in another area. More and more companies, big and small, including from the emerging nations, are represented here in Frankfurt with their products for the workshop. Some are offering products with an attractive price-performance ratio. China is a growth market for the diagnostics business. Bosch Automotive Aftermarket is also adapting to this change: in March of this year, we signed the purchase agreement for the acquisition of the Chinese diagnostics equipment specialist Weicon. The company from Shenzhen generated sales of EUR 3 million in 2007 with 100 employees. Weicon produces and markets diagnostics equipment in the medium price range along with the corresponding software. The company is therefore of strategic importance for supplying the emerging markets of China or India with diagnostics products. On top of that, we now possess our own development and production base in China. Expansion of the diagnostics business in North America But we are also continuing our expansion in what is by far the biggest automotive market in the world, namely North America. To expand the diagnostics business of the North American Automotive Aftermarket division, we acquired the Accuturn company in Richmond, Virginia on April 1, The sale of workshop technology requires a competent service network. With the well-established distribution and service network of Accuturn in North America, especially for chassis alignment and tire service equipment products, we have taken a big step forwards there. 4

9 RF15 Further development of the air conditioning service business We are preparing another big step in the area of air conditioning service: we are planning a cooperation with the Danish company Agramkow Fluid Systems A/S for the service of modern vehicle air conditioning systems with the refrigerant CO2. In close cooperation with German car manufacturers, Agramkow has developed and tested initial CO2 service devices according to their specifications. Bosch will sell these devices. In this way, we will offer our customers a complete range of air conditioning service devices. This will make us one of the first global suppliers of service technology for CO2 air conditioning systems. Strategic growth area: brake pads Just a few days ago, we were able to announce a breakthrough for the development of the very important brake replacement parts business with the acquisition of the brake pad business of the American Morse Group. The Morse Group develops, produces and markets brake pads and brake calipers. Our brake component business will be strengthened two-fold by the takeover: firstly, Bosch will produce brake pads itself in the future and will therefore be able to offer its own brake pad products. Secondly, we reinforce our position in the North American aftermarket in a targeted way. We have now come full circle: it was also in the area of parts that we began the implementation of our acquisition strategy in North America in Back then, we purchased the entire Purolator filter division from ArvinMeritor together with Mann+Hummel. 5

Bosch Automotive Aftermarket provides the workshops with the necessary tools, the appropriate spare parts, and the required expertise for these jobs. I would like to take this opportunity to explain in more detail what new services and products we have to offer some of which will be presented for the first time here in Frankfurt at the Automechanika trade fair: Comprehensive program for workshop technology As a result of the takeover of Beissbarth and Sicam, we now have a comprehensive program for workshop technology for wheels and wheel-related parts. This ranges from wheel alignment systems to brake test stands and tire service technology. After all, the market for wheels and wheel-related parts is currently experiencing technological change, with more and more electronics being used even in modern chassis. For this reason, we are offering a new family of wheel alignment systems for passenger cars and transporters. According to requirements and demand, the workshop can choose from nine systems. Together with the control unit diagnostics, the alignment systems enable the maintenance and repair of modern chassis with, for example, active steering or electronic shock absorbers. The new wheel alignment systems from Bosch include a database currently containing the reference data of more than 20,000 vehicles from 55 manufacturers. Microprocessor-controlled roller brake test stands have also been introduced in the Bosch program, which are distinguished 3

14 RF16 by virtue of their automated and speedy test sequence. A complete test cycle takes less than three minutes. Control unit diagnosis for workshops from Bosch From pioneer to global market leader This now complete range of products for wheels and wheelrelated parts is new to Bosch, whereas we already have 20 years experience with electronic diagnostics systems. Bosch was once the pioneer and is now the global market leader: with the successful KTS series, Bosch has provided professional and future-proof devices for control unit diagnostics for 20 years now. In Germany, fifty percent of independent workshops use KTS ECU diagnosis testers from Bosch. Bosch has sold well over 100,000 KTS testers worldwide. And the success story continues: We are providing you with a world premiere in the field of diagnostics here at Automechanika we are presenting our new compact ECU diagnosis tester KTS 340 for the first time. It is specially designed for mobile use on and in the vehicle. Alongside the control unit diagnostics, all the information from the workshop software package Esitronic is available in the new KTS 340. With KTS 340, we have modernized the entire KTS family within a few years. 4

15 RF16 The Esitronic workshop software is the most extensive software of its kind in the world For many years, the software for our diagnostic test systems has been based on the Esitronic workshop software. We are constantly working on the further development and improvement of this comprehensive workshop software on the market. Our workshop customers receive quarterly updates as part of their subscription, so that they always have the latest release. There are currently approximately 60,000 subscribers worldwide. In Germany, every second workshop relies on Esitronic. Over the past years, we have also continuously enhanced Esitronic according to our customers' needs and requests. In particular, user-friendliness, clarity of structure, and the logical connection of individual program elements have been continuously improved. The user will find a uniform user interface on the majority of Bosch diagnostics systems. At least as important as problem-free operation, however, is the data being up-to-date. Our goal is to provide all relevant service and repair data in Esitronic six months after the market launch of a new vehicle. To lay the foundations for this, we have invested around EUR 250 million in the further development of our Esitronic software over the last few years. Approximately 300 engineers worldwide work on systematically analyzing the local vehicle markets and updating the data of the latest vehicle models and the control units used into the Esitronic software, thereby guaranteeing the huge market coverage of the ESI. Alongside data maintenance, our experts are continually developing new functions, which support our customers in their 5

16 RF16 work in the workshop. The latest product is the Technical Service Bulletin or TSB for short an additional module within Esitronic. This new add-on program is a compendium of known recurring errors and faults. Ordered according to vehicle types and symptoms, the TSB supports the mechanic by providing a description of the cause and the solutions. This system has just been made available to subscribers with the most recent Esitronic update. New complete solutions from Bosch for servicing air conditioning systems in vehicles Alongside electronic diagnostics, another growth area is the air conditioning system service. Even economy and medium-sized cars are ordered with this added comfort in 90% of cases. When servicing air conditioning systems, precision and the environment are key. This is why our new air conditioning service units ACS 600 and 650 are fitted with a fully automated test sequence. These units can be used both for the specified maintenance tasks and for repairing faults and accident damage. This enables a safer, more efficient, and more costeffective air conditioning system service in every workshop. We will continue to expand this area. Mr. Tyroller has already told you about our intended distribution cooperation with Agramkow Fluid Systems A/S for the servicing of modern vehicle air conditioning systems with CO2. 6

17 RF16 All replacement brake parts ranging from the hydraulic unit to the brake pad However, ladies and gentlemen, diagnostics is only one part of our workshop business, albeit a rapidly growing one. There is no getting around the need to replace faulty or worn parts, not today and not in the future. We are therefore constantly expanding our spare part range. For example, in the area of brakes, which makes up a large part of the repair business. When it comes to original equipment for brakes, Bosch has been a full range provider for many years. Now we can also offer our workshop customers the full program for the maintenance and repair market in one go, ranging from the challenging hydraulic unit to the brake pad. Thanks to our acquisition of the brake pad business from Morse Automotive Corporation based in Chicago/USA we are now getting involved in the production of brake pads. This means that we can provide our customers with brake pads within three to six months of the start of series production, including in the aftermarket. Bosch Exchange is a cost-effective, eco-friendly alternative to new vehicle parts However, using new parts does not always make economic sense for the vehicle workshop and its customers. Remanufactures brake calipers are an example of this. Due to the more favorable price, the Bosch Exchange remanufactured parts program is suitable as an alternative to new vehicle parts particularly for the cost- and time-effective repair of older vehicles. In the field of industrially remanufactured vehicle parts, Bosch is now the global leader. The takeover of Holger Christiansen A/S has provided us with a comprehensive and 7

18 RF16 once again expanded remanufactured parts program, consisting of starters, alternators, air conditioner compressors, components of injection and brake systems, as well as ignition parts and sensors. The Bosch Exchange program currently offers more than 5200 parts from 21 product groups. More than 2.5 million Bosch Exchange parts are sold annually. This enables us to also make a contribution to the sustainability of our products for the conservation of resources and the environment. Using the starters and alternators as an example, here are some figures: compared to new production, 2200 tons of steel, 440 tons of aluminum, 240 tons of copper, and 1000 tons of CO2 are saved annually. Repair concepts for all diesel systems And it is not only Bosch Exchange that conserves resources and the environment, the Bosch core competence of diesel technology also makes a significant contribution in this regard. You only have to think of the reduction of CO2 emissions resulting from low fuel consumption. Bosch has been the specialist in diesel technology for more than three-quarters of a century. As a result of the continuing global diesel boom, workshops are seeing an increasing number of vehicles with high-pressure diesel injection systems coming through their doors for testing and repair work. We use our wealth of expertise from the original equipment, to offer workshops a comprehensive concept for efficient diagnostics and the economical repair of diesel components from Bosch as well as from Delphi, Denso, Conti, and all other manufacturers of diesel systems. Bosch adopts the strategy of repairing components wherever possible in the field repair sector to ensure maintenance work on older vehicles is performed in line with 8

19 RF16 their market value. For example, faulty pumps and injectors can be tested thoroughly on the Bosch EPS 200 and EPS 815 diesel test benches, and repairs are possible in the majority of cases. Particularly the Bosch Diesel Centers of which there are 650 certified establishments worldwide have the specialist knowledge and workshop equipment. These centers are able to repair all diesel systems available on the market. The Bosch Service Concept stands for global workshop competence for all brands Our partners at the Bosch Car Service organization offer a cross-brand, competent all-embracing auto service for all vehicles and systems. Alongside the classic Bosch fields of automotive electrics, electronics, and diesel service, the Bosch Service partners also offer inspections and oil service, general mechanical vehicle repairs, air conditioning service, in-car multimedia, tires and autoglass services. By means of our "Bosch Car Service" workshop concept we are supporting suitable independent workshops and are equipping them for the future. The strong Bosch brand, our complete technical expertise, operational advice and above all our comprehensive marketing and advertising activities, all form part of the Bosch Service. The interaction works with over 14,000 concerns in 141 countries, our Bosch Service Organization is the largest workshop network in the independent workshop market. Practice-oriented training courses at Bosch Service Training Centers Ladies and gentlemen, modern test and diagnostic systems, innovative products, and future-proof workshop systems are important success factors. But these factors can only be implemented successfully by qualified workshop employees. For this reason, we also impart technical knowledge. This is something our visitors can experience for themselves at one of our stands. Although, this can of course not replace professional Bosch training. We offer around 100 different courses and seminars with practical workshops at over 40 locations in 35 countries. And the number is growing all the time. In 2007, we opened new Bosch Service Training Centers in Bucharest, in Daytona Beach in the US, and in Beijing. Every year, approximately 60,000 workshop employees take part in the Bosch training opportunities. To ensure that theory-based knowledge is built upon and can be put into practice, practical work in small groups is a core part of Bosch training events all under the guidance of trainers with a background of working in workshops. The device operates without a mains connection via integrated commercially available batteries (AA type) and can be charged in the cigarette lighter, the car's diagnostic socket, and via the mains supply. In addition to the control unit diagnosis functions, all information from the Esitronic workshop software package required for troubleshooting, maintenance and service work is on the KTS 340 and therefore directly available in the vehicle. This includes the new Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). In addition, a two-channel multimeter is integrated into the KTS 340 for troubleshooting. The KTS 340 is therefore fully CASplus compatible. Thus, the workshop mechanic has everything he needs for diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and service with this handy device at his disposal. Frequently used information, such as vehicle information, diagnostic plug installation, or maintenance information can be accessed with a touch. The KTS 340 with its clear and intuitive operation and integrated measuring technology is therefore able to efficiently support the work of workshop mechanics. Secure investment for the future thanks to OBD exchange adaptor and software updates The Bosch experts also saw the value of ensuring thechnology investments would remain secure in the future. Like the KTS module and the KTS 670, the KTS 340 is equipped with an OBD exchange adaptor. An integrated multiplexer, which is controlled via the Esitronic software, establishes the connection between the various control units, the different manufacturers and the tester. If, in the future, the hardware requirements for the diagnosis communications interface should change, the exchange adaptor can easily be replaced. In the past four years, this kind of replacement with other Bosch diagnosis testers was only required once. The KTS 340 is equipped with WLAN for printing test results. This wireless connection allows the tester to access archived information about older vehicles that is saved on the workshop PC. Comprehensive range for every area of application The new KTS 340 control unit diagnosis tester rounds off the range of KTS testers available from Bosch. The Bosch product range now offers diagnosis testers to meet all requirements: from the simple OBD KTS 515 module, the KTS 200 in handheld format for service and maintenance, through to the new KTS 340, as well as the various KTS modules for use in Bosch vehicle systems analysis and exhaust analyzers. Nowadays, the KTS series from Bosch provides a suitable system for every workshop requirement: From the OBD module, for example, in the BEA exhaust tester, the small and handy KTS 200 tester for Service workshops, or the PC-based radio modules (Bluetooth), which are also incorporated in the FSA testers, to the most powerful KTS 670 diagnostics tester. State-of-the-art measuring technology with multimeter and dual-channel oscilloscope together with quick and safe recognition of diagnostics connections through the new "Easy Connect" adapter concept make control unit diagnostics, troubleshooting and repairs even faster and safer. Computer Aided Service, or CAS for short, is what Bosch calls the intelligent link between control unit diagnostics and fault location instructions. This guides the mechanic quickly and directly through the troubleshooting process, saving time and money, and increasing process efficiency. Database expanded considerably The volume of diagnostics data has grown enormously in the last 20 years. Regular data updates ensured from the outset that workshops always had up-to-date control unit data at their fingertips. The KTS series began with data from three vehicle manufacturers for the engine control system. Today, the Esitronic software from Bosch covers up to 60 different types of electronic system from 100 vehicle manufacturers. Each day, around ten megabytes of new data is added; this is made available to subscription paying workshops in the form of regular updates. The modern vehicle workshop must be capable of performing diagnostics on vehicle control units in a simple and economic way. With this in mind, Bosch has been supplying modern testing equipment and the workshop software Esitronic for many years now. Over the years, 60,000 customers around the world have opted to work with Bosch Esitronic. Bosch has invested heavily to expand its market coverage with the Esitronic software package; this has made KTS and Esitronic the leading products for control unit diagnosis, troubleshooting and maintenance.
