8 Grading Scale Grades for all courses completed and attempted are recorded on the student s permanent transcripts and become a part of the student s permanent file. Grade Standing Percentage A Excellent % B Good 85 92% C Average 77 84% INC F Failing 76% and below TR X W T Incomplete Transfer Credit Leave of Absence Withdrawn Terminated Pass/Fail Grades PMI does not award pass/fail grades. Progression, Clinical Evaluation and Graduation Criteria Progression in the Associate Degree Nursing Program is based upon the following: Successful completion (achieving a grade of C or better) in the classroom, lab and clinical components of each course. If a student fails any one of the components of a course he/she will need to repeat the course. Nursing courses must be completed in the scheduled sequence. If a student fails any two nursing core courses (NUR...) or any three courses overall, they will be terminated from the nursing program and are not eligible to reapply. A student is to maintain, throughout the 20 months of the Nursing Program, the criteria of admission related to: o TB screening, MMR, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Varicella, and Flu vaccinations, and CPR Certification Students with absences in excess of 15% of the total semester class hours may be terminated for unsatisfactory attendance. Any clinical absences in excess of 15% of the scheduled clinical hours may result in termination. A failing grade will be issued in the particular course in which the student was absent more than 15% of the total minutes and the student must repeat the course. Repeat Coursework: Students may repeat a failed course a maximum of 2 times, provided the repeated course can be completed within maximum time frame of one and one-half (1 ½) times the published program length, and that they are within the progression policy limits. Only the highest grade is considered for GPA evaluation, but all attempted credits are included for the measurement of maximum time frame. Repetition of a failed course may be at the expense of the student. Clinical Performance Grading Evaluation of clinical performance will be based upon the achievement of course objectives. These objectives are measured by specific behaviors on the Course Performance Evaluation Tool. Each student will be evaluated using the Course Performance Evaluation Tool a minimum of twice during each site rotation in a clinical setting. Clinical evaluations will be used for mid-course and final evaluations of student progress and performance in meeting the course objectives. 8
9 Grade Appeal The student has the right to appeal the determination of not meeting satisfactory progress or behavior, or to appeal based on extenuating circumstances. Inability to master course material and objectives are not extenuating circumstances. The student request should be submitted to the Program Director, Student Services Representative, Associate Campus Director, or Campus Director. A committee will review appeals on a case-by-case basis. All decisions made by the committee are final.
