1 General Information Treasure Valley Community College offers a nursing curriculum which is accredited by the Oregon State Board of Nursing and the nursing education program is a candidate for accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Any questions regarding ACEN accreditation status contact ACEN at or call (404) Successful completion of the ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE IN NURSING (AAS) requirements prepares the graduate to take the NATIONAL COUNCIL LICENSING EXAMINATION FOR REGISTERED NURSES (NCLEX-RN). Progression to the second year of the nursing program is based upon an average passing grade in nursing courses. The nursing program is a restricted-entry program. Students must apply for admission and meet the college and program criteria before being considered for acceptance. Students must be officially admitted to the Nursing Program before they can enroll in a Nursing course (NURS 110, etc.). Application packets are available the first day of winter quarter in the nursing department and on the TVCC Website. Dates for the preadmission exam are on the Web. Selection is made once each year through a selection process (see score sheet). PRE-NURSING students are strongly advised to take required general education courses prior to admission to the nursing program (see score sheet). The nursing program provides a balance between general education (social/biological science, humanities) and nursing content. Students acquire nursing skills under supervision of qualified instructors in classroom and laboratory settings, and apply nursing concepts and skills in various community facilities - hospitals, long-term facilities, clinics, and community health agencies. A candidate for the nursing program must demonstrate a personal history of mental and physical health compatible with fulfilling the requirements of the nursing program and obtaining licensure to practice nursing (see "Technical Standards for Nursing"). Upon admission, students are required to have a criminal background check. Students are also required to pass a 10-panel urine drug screen. A student can be denied admission based on the results of the background check and urine drug screen. Any candidate or student whose license to practice nursing at any level in any state has been suspended, revoked or encumbered in any way may be denied admission to or dismissed from the program. PROGRAM OVERVIEW Treasure Valley Community College Nursing Program has joined with other community college programs and Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) in a unified approach to nursing education. This coalition of statewide nursing educators and programs is known as the Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education (OCNE). All OCNE schools have comparable pre-requisites and application processes for students interested in a nursing career.

2 Program Competencies: The competencies of the OCNE curriculum address the need for nurses to be skilled in clinical judgment and critical thinking, evidence-based practice, relationship-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, assisting individuals and families in self-care practices for promotion of health and management of chronic and acute illnesses, end-of-life care, teaching, delegation, leadership and supervision of caregivers. Degree Options: Acceptance to the program allows for co-admission to TVCC and OHSU nursing programs. Co-admission is an agreement that applicants who are admitted to TVCC will be eligible to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Nursing at OHSU without an additional competitive application process. The co-admitted student would matriculate and be entered into the OHSU student record system, following successful completion of 6 terms of the nursing curriculum at TVCC. Students completing the A.A.S will meet the educational requirements to be eligible to sit for the RN-licensure examination. Students would complete four additional terms of full-time study to earn the Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Nursing through OHSU. Students would be able to remain in the Treasure Valley to complete the BS,N degree. Student who need part time study will have a twoyear time frame to complete the BS,N program at OHSU. Length of Program: The program is designed to provide students the option of completing an A.A.S degree from TVCC and a bachelor s degree from OHSU. As such, the course work is outlined in a fouryear framework. YEAR ONE Pre-requisite coursework YEAR TWO Nursing Curriculum at TVCC YEAR THREE Nursing Curriculum at TVCC At the completion of the third year, students earn an Associates of Applied Science (A.A.S) degree and are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination. Students may complete the BS,N degree in four terms of full-time study. YEAR FOUR OHSU BS,N track students complete additional upper division electives and nursing coursework to complete a BS,N degree. Most electives can be completed at TVCC. o Additional upper division electives include Math 243 (Statistics) and 6 credits of any transferable level non-studio humanities. o Proof of basic computer competency and foreign language proficiency is required.
