3 Introduction In this manual, we ll show you the steps for acknowledging different alerts and sensor statuses in AKCess Pro Server (APS), as well as the Alert Notification feature. Different reasons can make a sensor to have an alert status, for example sensor error, exceeding the warning levels configured (high critical, low critical), and the configured notifications. We ll show you how to acknowledge and configure the alerts through examples

4 The example SEC configuration This configuration consists of a SEC unit with 4 cameras, an expansion board, and various sensors attached. Most sensors are currently unplugged, which places them in sensor error status as shown in red: - 4 -

5 Acknowledging sensor alerts First example: acknowledging sensor error on the Dual Humidity & Temperature sensor, and the Timer switch virtual sensor In our first example, we ll acknowledge the sensor error on a Dual Humidity & Temperature sensor. Select the sensor from the list, and right click it to get the context menu: Click on Acknowledge. This will stop the error notifications in the SEC s syslog

6 You can always check a sensor s detailed configuration by clicking Configure : As we can see on the picture, this sensor is currently in Sensor Error status. If you know that the sensor won t be reattached later, click the Online button in the middle to put it offline; this will remove all settings for the sensor, and the sensor itself from the list. The Timer switch is a custom virtual sensor (script) that changes its status each hour. Upon clicking on Acknowledge, the (Ack) text will be shown next to it in the sensors list, as shown here: - 6 -

7 Alert Notification feature The Alert Notification feature popup will alert you of the configured alerts, and other server events. As shown in our earlier examples, you can configure the alerts for each sensor on a per-status basis. Click on the underscore icon to temporarily hide the notifications. All earlier messages will be shown again together with a new notification, or when you click the small yellow bottom right corner of the APS console to show the alert popup again. icon on the Clicking will dismiss all of the Alert Notifications shown, and close the popup window. If a new alert comes up later, the earlier messages won t be shown again. You can close each message by itself by hovering the mouse over the message, and clicking the button in the upper right corner for the particular message, as shown here: Click on the small wrench icon for the general configuration options. Keep in mind that these settings are per-user settings, each user can configure them differently

8 The Alert Notification s general settings are as follows: The default is to show an Alert Notification for these events; you can disable the screen capture notification for example. If you ve configured the Notification feature for a particular sensor (as we will show below), it will also show a popup alert; those alerts can be turned off only with configuring each sensor individually. You can see which sensors have the Notification feature turned on by right clicking on them (on the Desktop workspace). The configured sensors with notifications will be marked like this: Click on Notify to configure the sensor s options (details are in the next section)

9 Configuring alerts for sensor status changes We ll show this feature through another example. First drag and drop the chosen sensor from the list to the workspace on the right. Repeat for each sensor you d like to monitor and configure for alerts. In this example, we ve chosen the Motion Detector and Timer switch sensors: You can also show a graph by clicking on the small graph icon, and dragging it to the desktop workspace. More about this feature will be covered in the Sensor Graphing manual. After you ve resized the sensor status summary displays to fit in the window, right click on a sensor to get its context menu with the Notify option in it, like on this Motion Detector: - 9 -

10 By default, no notification through Alert Notification is set up for sensors. You can select the sensor statuses you d like to be notified of here: We ll select all statuses, as this will better allow us to show you the usage of this feature. You can find more information about the Alert Notification feature in the previous section of this manual

11 When the Motion Detector enters Motion status, you ll be notified in a popup message window in the APS console, as shown here:

12 If the sensor status resumes Normal, but you ve missed the notifications, you can still see which sensor was making the particular alert by clicking on the alert notification message. It will blink the sensor in orange for a few seconds, for easier identification: Note that the Alert Notification window won t close unless you acknowledge the alerts, or close the popup message (see about this below)

13 As shown earlier with the Timer switch sensor, if you click on Acknowledge, it will display (Ack) next to the sensor, to indicate that its current status has been acknowledged: Unless the sensor s status changes again, the (Ack) indication will remain

14 Second example: Temperature Sensor high warning notification and acknowledge We ll change the Normal and High Warning values of this sensor, to trigger an alert. Default settings for this sensor: We ll change the Normal value to 20 and High Warning to 25 to trigger alerts

15 When reaching the High Critical status, the sensor will be shown in red and a notification will also be shown (we ve configured it to display notification on all sensor statuses): The Motion Detector also display its notification, as configured earlier

16 Now you can acknowledge the temperature sensor s status as shown earlier: This will stop further notifications unless the sensor s status changes again

17 Sensor Event Log feature To view the previous statuses of a sensor, and who has acknowledged a particular sensor status, you can switch to the sensor s Event Log by clicking on Options in the sensor s window, as shown here (the display window is resized on the picture for better log message reading): The Event Log shows that the Temperature Sensor was in High Critical status, and it was acknowledged by the user Admin
