Congratulations on your decision to join the profession of teaching. As the professional world continues to demand higher levels of knowledge and advanced degrees, graduate study is a wise and sophisticated step towards your career goal. Oakland University s Master of Arts in Teaching with Secondary Teacher certification offers the opportunity for those with a bachelor s degree to pursue 6-12 teacher certification and receive a master degree. This program combines Oakland University s excellent reputation for teacher preparation with a convenient evening and weekend course schedule. Please read through the information in this packet to learn the specifics on the Master of Arts in Teaching with Secondary Teacher Certification (MAT) program including application requirements, majors and minors offered at Oakland University and MAT course sequence. The first step to determine your readiness for the program is to have your transcripts evaluated by an Education Adviser. Return the "Transcript Review and Program Profile Request" form, on page 5, along with unofficial copies of your transcripts. An adviser will determine how many credits you have taken in your previous coursework that will count toward the minimum one major and one minor required to begin the MAT program. You may also be interested in attending an information session. You can find a list of meeting dates at or by calling Master of Arts in Teaching with Secondary Teacher certification application materials can be found at You will send all documents to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
