5 Additional Requirements MAT students will also need to meet the following requirements before beginning the internship: 1. Student Teaching Authorization (this includes fingerprinting). This is due into the College of Education, Student Services, by May 1, Do NOT start on this process until you have received specific instructions from the College of Education via . Making mistakes with this could end up costing you additional money! Even if you have recently done a background check for other purposes, you will need to complete a separate background check/fingerprinting for the MAT Degree Program. State Regulations do not allow for organizations to share information (results) from background checks. IMPORTANT NOTICE: The State of Alaska requires fingerprinting/background check prior to the internship experience. If the background check is not passed, you will not be allowed to continue into an internship. 2. Current physical exam. This can be completed either in the spring or summer before the beginning of the Fall Internship. The UAA Student Health Center provides physical exams to enrolled students at no cost. 3. Student accident insurance maintained throughout internship. Accident insurance is required for all students enrolled in the MAT degree program and may be purchased through UAA. A fee (approximately $13.65 per semester) will be charged for fall and spring semesters (total of $27.30). However, if you have health insurance coverage, please bring in proof of coverage and you will be given a form to take to the UAA Accounting Office to waive the fee. 4. Although not required, it is highly recommended that admitted students have their own laptop computer or readily accessible home computer. Distance classes require the use of a computer. Generally public computer labs cannot be used for distance classes because of the interaction (speaking) required. The UAA IT Webpage has information about suggested computer specifications and purchase options. Page 5 of 15 January 2016
