2 AKINCI Amsterdam About the first virtual birth (Maya Brush) At 6:00 p.m. on February 4, 2011, during the finissage of the Technology Requested exhibition at the Nederlands Instituut voor Media Kunst, Maya Brush, a 'Homo Virtualis', was born. A virtual sculpture who at that moment entered the real world for the first time. Maya is the first virtual beauty to be created solely by the computer an artificial body which is oriented to human ideals of beauty, yet comes into being entirely virtual, without being created from any real model. Maya has been developed over the past three years by the artist Kirsten Geisler. As a virtual model she represents the dream of perfect pulchritude. Maya the digital beauty standsfor all prefab-girls, thestandardized, technically modeled beauties that are propagated in advertising and the media. Starting from the opening of the Technology R quested exhibition, on November , her DNA structure and countdown. And on February 4 the worlds first virtual birth takes place at NIMk. This is also to be followed on-line After the birth Maya can be reached via her facebook page: Just like a real model periodicals and glossy magazines will be writing about her. Her life will be exposed to viewers on television and YouTube. These real appearances in the media will be virtual performances. Already Maya has bookings with f mous fashion photographers and fashion designers. As a virtual art figure she is the first sculpture who performs in the real medial world. As a digital beauty, in the future she will no longer be seen exclusively in international museums and art institutions. Maya will be transformed into a literal 'art figure' who seeks real media publicity, and will use this public forum to make her way back into the art world. Since the mid-1990s Geisler has been occupied with the representation of the three-dimensional body in a virtual space and with the construction and manipulation of beauty. In Geisler's works the virtual person is a symbol for the reflection of our dreams: young, beautiful, slender, normal, healthy, and of course, never aging. Thus Geisler contributes to the social debates over virtuality, digitization and the construction of identity. Geisler's works comment on the ideal of beauty and the delusions about beauty in contemporary society and the increasing digitization and virtualization of the world.

7 Monitor installation This monitor installation presents in black and white the original form of the further developed virtual beauty, which, life-sized, paces the catwalk. The graceful movements are underlined by the high-contrast image and uncover at the same time an intermediate step in the evolution of the archetype: the closed rendering, that defines form and movement and which is waiting to be coloured in, in order to correspond more fully to our ideal of beauty. 10 KIRSTEN GEISLER OUART Geisler studied at the 'Gerrit Rietveld Academie from , and in 1991 at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. She is a founding member of Haarlem, the Institute for Media Arts in Haarlem. Kirsten Geisler lives in Berlin and Haarlem. Kirsten Geisler employs in her work with the interface between the real and virtual worlds. They discussed how these worlds are increasingly flowing into each other. Kirsten Geisler developed virtual sculptures using 3D and virtual reality technology. The body, its materiality, its traces and its presence in the media are the issues that shape their work and inspiration. Her work includes only computer-generated 3-D sculptures. At the beginning created juxtapositions of real and virtual portraits of women such as "Who are You?", Odle took it to the socio-political debate about the virtual and digital and the construction of identity in a digitally networked world. In the work of the series " Virtual Beauties ", , the repertoire of the virtual 3-D characters, enhanced by the interaction with the viewer. The series focuses on the manifestation of feminine beauty ideals and reflects the obsession with beauty in a digitized and virtualized society. It works followed with full-length, stereotypical women's bodies such as "Dream of Beauty ', , and" Catwalk I "-." Catwalk II ", 2004, these virtual models created without photographic model you are the synthesis of ideal images of a woman, as they are given us by the media.. They correspond to the ideals of the fashion industry and plastic surgery. In "Catwalk II" moves the figure like a model on the catwalk and presented as in a film report from a fashion show. The development of this series with the version of "Brush Maya", 2011, transcends the boundaries between the real world and virtual world. Moved as a fictional character, Maya Brush in two worlds: the first time, leaving a virtual sculpture, the museum and art institutions dares step into the "real" life in the public media and global communication networks. Kirsten Geisler responds with "Maya Brush" on the increasing interconnectedness of our world: a virtual sculpture, whose body consists of a network of data, combined with his advocacy in the real world of media symbiosis with the global networks of our world.
