Randy Starnes State Farm Insurance Companies Letter from the Chairman I am pleased to report that the Collision Repair Education Foundation had a record year in 2011 thanks to the generosity of our constituents in the collision industry and was able to provide $4.1 million in support to secondary and post-secondary collision school programs and their collision students. This high level of support is made possible through our generous industry supporters who are making an impact on the technical education of collision students nationwide. In total, the Collision Repair Education Foundation has now provided over $7 million in student scholarships and tool/equipment grants since 2008 when the organization began its philanthropic endeavors. We are truly fueling the future of the collision industry! Among the highlights for 2011 was the record-breaking golf fundraiser that took place in Salt Lake City in July. The event raised $60,000 towards helping collision students, which doubled the amount raised during the 2010 event in Chicago. Staff did such a remarkable job of organization and execution during the annual fundraiser that it has become the gold standard for our industry. The fact that the 2012 fundraiser sold out six months in advance is evidence of that and we look forward to another great event. The organization s Ultimate Collision Education Makeover school grant, where a school s collision program had their $50,000 wish list fulfilled, was a definite part of We held the ribbon cutting ceremony for our 2010 Makeover winning school, Bridgerland Applied Technology College (Logan, UT) in September and were proud to announce that the school s collision program ended up receiving $125,000 in tools, equipment and supplies. During SEMA 2011, Applied Technology Center (Rock Hill, SC) was announced as our newest Makeover winning school and they were selected from over 70 applicants nationwide. The Makeover grant has come a long way since 2009 and we are proud to see its popularity with the schools and the industry members that make the grant possible. Finally, as I complete my term as Chairman and take the position of Immediate Past Chairman, I want to thank the staff for all their efforts to make the last two years so successful. In addition, none of what has been accomplished would have been possible without the support of the Board of Trustees and an outstanding Executive Committee. It has been an honor to serve as your Chairman, and I look forward to my new role as Immediate Past Chairman. Sponsors and participants enjoyed a day of golf at Stonebridge Golf Club in Salt Lake City, UT on July 21, 2011 and the funds raised from this event will go towards supporting upcoming scholarships and grants for collision schools and students. Also in attendance at the fundraiser event was Kevin Cornia, collision repair instructor from Bridgerland Applied Technology College (Logan, UT) which was the Foundation s 2010 $50,000 Ultimate Collision Education Makeover winning school, and several of his students. In addition to sitting at several of the holes to meet industry professionals, the students also hand crafted the 1st place team trophies for the event. The Foundation s annual industry fundraiser has grown leaps and bounds the past three years and each year we raise more and more funds for student scholarships and school grants. Not only did the event sell out four months early, but it also doubled the amount raised in 2010 and tripled the amount raised from 2009, said Scott Kruger, Collision Repair Education Foundation Executive Director. This success is due to our attendees, event sponsors and our co-host PPG Automotive Refinish. We plan on 2012 s fundraiser in San Antonio next July to be even better. 12

13 Fundraiser PPG is privileged to support the industry s future through events of this kind, said Domenic Brusco, PPG Automotive Refinish, senior manager, industry relations. This is the third consecutive year we ve co-hosted the Collision Repair Education Foundation s industry fundraiser, and it s rewarding to see more funds raised each year to assist collision students with their educational opportunities. This is a great display of how the industry can come together to support its upcoming workforce. 13

16 Makeover Grant Matching Makeover Award Cypress College Cypress, CA Cypress College has been awarded Solera s Matching Makeover grant through the Collision Repair Education Foundation. The Solera grant was made available exclusively to California secondary and/or post-secondary schools, and Cypress College will have its $50,000 wish list of needed tools, equipment, and supplies fulfilled to benefit its collision program. This $25,000 grant is a portion of the $100,000 donation made to the Collision Repair Education Foundation in 2010 by Solera Holdings, Inc. and its CEO, Tony Aquila; the largest cash donation ever received by the not-forprofit organization. Current industry supporters of the California Matching Makeover grant program for Cypress College that will fulfill the second $25,000 of the grant include: Radiator & A/C, ALLDATA, Assured Performance Network, Chilton Auto Body, Collision Services, Crockett s Premier Autobody, FIX Auto, Hobart, Matco Tools and Oakland Autobody. The goal of the Ultimate Collision Education Makeover program is to honor a highperforming school that has been doing an outstanding job in educating students in collision repair, but is in need of financial assistance to improve their program s teaching materials and equipment. The winning school selects $50,000 in supplies, tools, and equipment needed specifically for their collision program. Solera is truly pleased to provide and sponsor the Matching Makeover grant program for Cypress College through the Collision Repair Education Foundation, said Rick Tuuri, VP of Industry Relations for Audatex, a Solera Company. It is important to Tony Aquila that we make a lasting difference for collision repair students, and transforming Cypress College helps to achieve that goal. At Solera, we believe that Life Is Full of Transformation. As a result, we have developed our L.I.F.T. program, to help others succeed through their life changes. We would also like to thank the additional industry partners that have come on board to participate in this Matching Makeover grant program for Cypress College. Only through industry members coming together to support its future professionals will we have the greatest impact. Cypress College Auto Collision Instructor Dan Snook said, As the recipients of the 2011 California Matching Makeover grant sponsored by Solera and Tony Aquila, the Cypress College Collision Repair Technology Department staff and students express their appreciation. Collision technical schools, ours included, are dependent upon industry partnerships such as this. It is the support of partnerships and educational grants that make it possible to train students at the highest level. Future technicians receive hands-on training using the latest equipment and products provided by our industry partners, ensuring students will be trained to the highest level before entering the automotive collision repair industry. 16

17 Talk of the Future I along with the freshman class of collision repair from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology would like to thank 3M and the Collision Repair Education Foundation for their continued generosity. With budgets being as they are any donation is welcomed and greatly appreciated by our College and our students. Dennis Antosy (Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Lancaster, PA) Thank you very much for the donation of your products. The students were overwhelmed that someone such as your company cares enough to give them material that will give them experience. Rest assured that material will be used to its fullest. Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Lancaster, PA Richard Segura (Skyline High School Dallas, TX) Please extend my class gratitude for the donations as it helps the students to reach higher goals when they have materials that are used within the industry. As we all know, the budget cuts have hurt schools in that we are under funded and have to skip purchasing certain materials that aren t deemed of high importance to teach with. All of the donations from the fine companies that support the Collision Repair Education Foundation and the trade schools help us to make the learning experience that much better for our students. Gary Barger (Central PA Institute of Science and Technology Pleasant Gap, PA) Thank you so much for the very generous donations. These kinds of donations really help our program by being able to expose our students to products and techniques that we could not afford to provide out of our limited budget. The students are already excited about being able to get to use them and are now looking forward to next semester where I am sure we will put them to good use. Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria, VA Geoffrey Brown (Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria, VA) The Collision Repair Education Foundation has contributed to our collision and refinishing program repeatedly. It is always greatly appreciated. In these times of shrinking budgets, this generosity greatly enriches our students education. Your support helps more than you know, thank you.
