If number of applicants are large, there will be a selection test. Project Scientist - II - 4 posts Post Code No. Qualifications of posts CP&SM / PS-II 1 Essential Qualification: Master s degree or equivalent in Oceanography/Marine Science/ Physics/ Mathematics or related subjects or B.E/ B. Tech. in Civil / Coastal related subjects or equivalent from recognized University/Institute with at least First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum 3 years R&D experience in the field of coastal hydrodynamics / coastal processes modeling / Coastal engineering /Shoreline Management related aspects. Experience should be supported by publications or reports. Desirable: Ph.D. in Science /M. Tech in Engineering in the relevant area.

2 SWQM / PS-II / 1 1 Essential Qualification: Master s degree in Marine Biology/Marine Sciences / Microbiology / Environmental / Life Science with at least First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience relating to coastal water quality monitoring (biological and microbiological variables) data processing, statistical analysis and reporting. Desirable: Ph.D., in Marine Biology / Marine Science. Nature of work: Assisting the senior scientists mainly to monitor coastal water quality with reference to biological and microbiological characteristics of water and sediment, data processing including reporting. SWQM / PS-II / 2 1 Essential Qualification: Master s degree in Analytical / Marine Chemistry from a recognized University with at least First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in coastal water quality monitoring particularly, analysis of chemical oceanographic parameters including nutrients, metals from water and sediment samples, data processing and reporting. Desirable: Ph.D., in Analytical / Marine chemistry Nature of work: Assisting the senior Scientists mainly to monitor coastal water quality with reference to chemical oceanographic parameters of water and sediment, data processing for quality assurance and publication. SWQM / PS-II / 3 1 Essential Qualification: Master s degree in Computer Science or MCA from a recognized University with at least First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum 3 years experience in Oracle/RDBMS Desirable: Ph.D., in MCA / Computer Science Nature of work: Assisting the senior scientists mainly to process the data of seawater quality, database organization, statistical analysis, data quality assurance including publication. 2

Project Scientist I - 4 posts Post Code No. Qualifications of posts ME / PS-I / 1 1 Essential Qualification: Master s Degree in Marine Biology/ Marine Science or its equivalent from a recognized University/ Institute with at least First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum two years experience in the relevant subject. Desirable: Working knowledge in the collection & maintenance of analysis of marine organisms. Conducting toxicity experiments and analyzing the samples. Nature of work: Conduct of toxicity experiments on planktonic organisms and analysis of samples and finalization of the test results and report writing. ME / PS-I / 2 1 Essential Qualification: Master s Degree in Chemical Oceanography/ Marine Chemistry or its equivalent from a recognized University/ Institute with at least First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum two years experience in the relevant subject. Desirable: Working knowledge in the analytical chemistry related to oceanographic parameters. Nature of work: Conduct of toxicity experiments and analysis of samples for high speed diesel oil and PAHs and finalization of the test results and report writing. 3

4 ESM /PS-I 1 Essential Qualification: i) First class M. Sc (Physical oceanography/ physics/ mathematics) or First class M.Tech (Atmospheric Sciences) (not less than 60% marks) Experience: Minimum two years working experience for M.Sc. and one year experience for M.Tech in i) analysis of global oceanographic and meteorological data for ROMS model simulations ii) operation of LINUX/ UNIX based computer platforms with knowledge of computer programming in FORTRAN, Matlab, and related modeling software and iii) operation of various physical oceanographic instruments Nature of work: For field data collection and mathematical modeling on various physical and biogeochemical parameters through coupled approach. CP&SM / PS-I 1 Essential Qualification: Master s degree or equivalent in Oceanography/Marine Science/ Physics or related subjects or M.E/ M. Tech. in Atmospheric Science/ Remote sensing /Coastal or related subjects or equivalent from recognized University/Institute with at least First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum 2 years R&D experience for M.Sc. and one year experience for M.Tech in the field of coastal processes modeling/ sediment transport studies/ /Shoreline Mapping related studies. 3. Senior Research Fellow - 4 Posts. Post Code No. Qualifications of posts CP&SM / SRF 1 Essential Qualification: Master s degree in Oceanography/ Marine Sciences/ Geo Sciences/ Remote sensing/ MCA /Physics / Environmental Sciences or B. Tech in Geo informatics /Geo technology/civil Engineering or equivalent with First class (not less than 60% marks). Experience: Minimum 2 years for M.Sc. / MCA candidates and 1 year experience for B.Tech candidates in remote sensing / GIS application / mathematical modeling in the coastal environment. 4

5 ESM / SRF 1 Essential Qualification: i) M.Sc., (Physical oceanography/ physics /mathematics) with First class (not less than 60% marks) Experience: Minimum one year working experience in i) ROMS model simulations for ocean areas ii) operation of LINUX computer platforms with programming experience in FORTRAN and Matlab and iii) operation of various physical oceanographic instruments Nature of work: For field data collection and mathematical modeling on various physical and biogeochemical parameters through coupled approach. SWQM / SRF /1 1 Essential Qualification: i) Master s degree in Cartography/remote sensing with First class (not less than 60% marks) Experience: 2 years of experience in GIS application in coastal water quality studies or M.Tech. in Remote Sensing with 1 year experience in GIS application for coastal water quality research. Nature of work: Assisting senior scientists in developing GIS based Information System using data collected under seawater quality monitoring programme and report preparation. SWQM / SRF /2 1 Essential Qualification: Master s degree in Microbiology with First class (not less than 60% marks) Experience: 2 years of experience in culture and isolation of marine bacterial strains. Nature of work: Assisting the senior scientists in isolation and culture of marine microbial strains collected, laboratory maintenance including application oriented research. 5

6 4. Technical Assistant 2 Posts Post Code No. Qualification of post SWQM / TA 1 Essential Qualification: B.Sc., in Science with knowledge in general chemistry. Experience: 1 year experience in a laboratory. Nature of work: Assisting the senior scientist in routine analysis of samples under SWQM programme. ME / TA 1 Essential Qualification: Degree in B.Sc. in Chemistry/ Life Sciences. Experience: 1 year experience in a laboratory. Nature of work : Preparation of list of chemicals/ minor equipment required for procurement, Preparation of reagents/buffers, Assist in tissue processing, sectioning, staining of micro slides, Assist in collection of biological samples and dissection/autopsy 6

7 Note: 1. Candidates must be citizens of India. 2. Age Limit : PS II - 40 years, PS I - 35 years, SRF - 32 and years & TA 28 years as on last date of application (relaxation of age is applicable to the SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically challenged candidates as per the Govt. of India norms). 3. The engagement is time bound and purely temporary on contract basis and on consolidated salary, against the XII Five Year Plan project sanctions. The duration of the engagement would be initially for a period of 1 year and extendable to 3 years or coterminous with the project, whichever is earlier, subject to Annual Performance Review. 4. Work Place: The selected candidate will initially be posted to work at ICMAM-PD, Chennai and may be required to work anywhere in India in future. 5. Number of years of experience will be counted after the year of award of qualifying degree. 6. Candidates serving in Central / State Governments / Public Sector Undertaking / Autonomous bodies etc. shall apply through proper channel. The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. Where the number of applications received in response to an advertisement is large and it will not be convenient or possible for the Selection Committee to interview all those candidates, the Committee may restrict the number of candidates for interview to reasonable limit through a trade test.
