1 Revised Assessment Plan Approved: November 17, 2011 NORTH DAK TATE COLLEGE O CIENCE PROGRAM AEMENT PLAN DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Occupational Therapy Assistant COLLEGE MIION: The North Dakota tate College of cience is a comprehensive, associate degree granting college founded on a tradition of quality and integrity. We deliver learner-focused education through a unique and evolving collegiate experience. Using innovative delivery strategies, NDC anticipates and responds to statewide and regional needs by providing access to occupational/technical programs, transfer programs, and workforce training. PROGRAM PURPOE: To prepare students for entry level practice as generalist occupational therapy assistants. IDENTIIED TUDENT OUTCOME: 1. (A.5.4) 2. 65% of Occupational Therapy Assistants graduates will be successfully employed by November % of students admitted into the program will complete the program.. 4. (B )
2 I. ENTRY LEVEL AEMENT AND PLACEMENT Other than being high school graduates and completing an application to the college, currently, there are no admission requirements. ormer admission requirements were discontinued in 2000, when program enrollment dropped and it was reported by admissions that having prerequisites was resulting in potential applicants going to other schools. The requirements were originally put into place to ensure that candidates would be successful in the program, once classes were begun. During that time that there were no admission requirements, the program has seen a drop in the student pass rate of our students taking the National Certification Examination for Occupational Therapy Assistants. Throughout the past ten years, out pass rate has steadily decreased, and since 2007, the NDC program had been in non-compliance of ACOTE tandard A.5.4. ince April of 2011, the program s passed rate has improved and the program is once again in compliance of ACOTE tandard A.5.4. Year Number of Program Graduates Number of first-time test takers 2 Number of first-time test takers who passed the exam Percentage of first-time test takers who passed the exam % % Totals % Beginning all 2011, the Program will implement Admission Requirements. These requirements will be put in place to ensure that candidates will be successful in the Program, once classes have begun. The Admission tandards are as follows: 1. Complete the NDC Application for Admission, Re-application or Change of Program, whichever applies. 2. ubmit a high school transcript or equivalent and all official transcripts from any college(s) previously attended. 3. ubmit an ACT with a minimum score of [14] in English and [18] in Reading OR complete the COMPA Placement Test and achieve a score of [38] in English/Writing and [80] in Reading OR submit an official college transcript with ENGL completed with a C or higher. 4. Complete a health occupations basic entrance test (HOBET V). 5. ubmit documentation of a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer/community service. 6. Additional admission points will be awarded for the following college level courses:
3 Bio 115 and 115L Human tructure and unction (or higher); PYC 250 Developmental Psychology and PYC 270 Abnormal Psychology. All courses must be passed with a C or higher. Applicants will be selected on a point system. Once program capacity is reached, an alternate list will be established based on points. CONCLUION: There appears to be a correlation between the student success in the program, fieldwork experience and the certification examination pass rate when there are admission requirements. By reinstating admission criteria, we hope to attract students who will be most successful in the completion of the program and certification examination. 3
