5 About healthy lifestyles Summer School Introduction The Healthy Lifestyles Summer School at the National School of Public Health (ENSP) is designed to kick-start your health promotion journey into a feasible lifestyle that focuses wellness and quality of life. In this oneweek program you will develop an intervention or service idea into a health concept. Our approach is hands on, and rooted in the belief that anyone has natural talents and can benefit from knowledge translation to improve wellness and quality of life. In this pressure cooker program, you will experience and learn what it takes to transform crude ideas into a first draft for an actionable health promotion plan at the individual and community level. The aim is to gear you up for action: healthy lifestyle is not about complex measures, it is about materializing simple and achievable measures. This summer school combines workshops/lectures with a venture lab. This combination makes this summer school a valuable boot-camp for anyone interested to explore healthy lifestyles as possible health promotion interventions. Although any health system relies on providing solutions to the basic need of health and wellbeing, it is not always clear how one can find a promising opportunity to intervene in the area of healthy lifestyles. That is why the week will start with an ideation workshop helping you to generate product/service ideas that might provide a basis for viable intervention. You will then explore what health concepts and paradigms could be deployed to realize wellness ideas. You will also learn how you can rigorously review competing ideas in the arena of the wellness world of today. Such competitive analysis will help you to further refine your intervention and/or healthy lifestyles concept. Next you will be exploring what development and engineering needs to be done before your healthy lifestyles intervention can hit the public and end user (the citizen). If you want to intervene at the local or national, organizational or individual level, the outcome of these efforts should be a first assessment of the resources needed to enact the proposed intervention and a first indication of the value that such an enactment could create. As such this summer school not only introduces you to the principles and strategies of health promotion, but also articulates the operationalization of the salutogenesis paradigm to serve the wellness project of living healthy lives. Making good ideas to become comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful will be the pillar of this program that focus on what does it take to turn them into effective behaviors. 5
