New powerful software functions provide users with greatly expanded capabilities for operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and preventive service. The large, full color, integrated LCD touchscreen provides real-time instrument status at a glance, eliminating the need for external keypads or controllers. How many labor hours do you invest to measure and record sample ph readings? phdetect TM Automates ph Measuring and Recording A premier option of the Eclipse, the innovative phdetect TM module, automates measurement and recording of ph values of all water samples. Many USEPA VOC methods require that samples be preserved with acid to a ph <2, and a duplicate sample is often collected in the field just for measuring the ph. Alternatively, the sample vial is opened after the analysis and the ph is measured manually, a time-consuming and labor-intensive step. Priority Sampling The phdetect TM fully automates and seamlessly incorporates this entire process into the VOC analysis, eliminating the need for additional samples, and the time and cost associated with manual ph measurement. In operation, as each water sample drains from the Eclipse, a representative aliquot of liquid is diverted to a cell on the front of the phdetect TM where the ph reading is taken by a precise, temperature adjusted ph electrode. The sample is then drained from the cell and all the lines are purged in preparation for the next sample. Priority Sampling at the touch of a button. 5 to Meet the Demands of Today s Analytical Laboratory! Do Foaming Samples Cost you Time, Money, and Lost Productivity? Minimize Downtime with Three Levels of Foam Protection It is often impossible to tell in advance if a sample will foam during purging. Once foaming occurs, it may be too late to prevent contamination of the internal sample pathway upstream of the sparge vessel. The Eclipse features three options that not only sense when foaming occurs, but actually bust up the foam before it travels into and contaminates the internal sample pathway. All of these options can be used in any combination to avoid system downtime caused by foaming samples. (Level 1) Foam Buster The Foam Buster option is a heated, chemically-inert element installed in the sample pathway at the top of the sparger. Its combination of heat and geometric shape effectively breaks bubbles associated with foam and returns them back down into the sparger. The system has been successfully tested with a 1% Snoop solution and works with both 5- and 25-mL spargers. (Level 2) Foam Sensor The Foam Sensor option uses a small optical-sensor attached to a ring on the outside of the sparge vessel. The sensor detects the presence of foam inside the sparger and sends a signal to the Eclipse to stop the run before the foam can contaminate or damage the sample pathway. External to the glassware, the Foam Sensor offers protection, while permitting full view of the sparger glassware. Two user-defined options are available when the unit detects foam: stop the analysis and sequence, or drain and continue (starting the GC and then cleaning the system). Any detected foam event creates an entry in the Eclipse data log with date and time stamp for matching with the corresponding GC run. (Level 3) Improved Foam Filter OI Analytical s Foam Filter (standard on all units) has been providing protection against foaming since it was first introduced 10 years ago. The Eclipse Foam Filter has been refined to improve performance with polar compounds and reduce maintenance. Foam Buster SOS Sparge Overfill Sensor Foam Sensor Has a P&T sparger overfill ever shut down your instrument? Temperature Status Screen simultaneously lists setpoints and actual temperatures for all heated zones. Troubleshooting is facilitated with warning displays of zones not at temperature set points or for faulty heater and thermocouples. Avoid sparger overfills with the Sparge Overfill Sensor (SOS) Another problem frequently encountered with previous P&Ts was accidental over-filling of the sparger when using an autosampler. Instrument flooding could occur if, for any reason, the previous sample had not been completely drained (e.g., power outage). The result was a major maintenance task to clean both the P&T sample pathway and GC or GC/MS. The Eclipse avoids these problems with an optional Sparge Overfill Sensor (SOS). This unique feature checks the sparger for the presence of water prior to sending the next sample from the autosampler to the P&T. When water is detected, the Eclipse avoids flooding by automatically draining the sparger before continuing with the next sample. 5

Model 4551A Waters Vial Autosampler with Standards Addition Module (SAM) The Model 4660 Eclipse Sample Concentrator used with the Model 4551A Autosampler and the Standards Addition Module (SAM) fully automates the analyses of up to 51 clean water or lightly-particulated water samples. The SAM adds up to two 1-µl standards or surrogates to the sample during transfer from the Autosampler to the Eclipse. The SAM contains two separate reservoirs that add standards at programmable sampling intervals. Reliability, speed, and low maintenance costs provide maximum productivity when running water samples. Model 4552 Water / Soil Autosampler The Model 4552 Autosampler allows automated analysis of up to 51 water samples, soil samples, or both.
