I always try to be there for my teammates ad care about others before I care about myself. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE USF? It s 20 miutes from home, so my parets ca be at all my games ad I ca always go back to see them. It s also what I grew up watchig o TV. I followed USF football to its rise, ad I wated to be a part of it. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB? I wat to work for the FBI. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS YOU VE TAKEN AT USF? Sociology of Social Problems because it showed me perspective is everythig, ad it made me look at thigs from differet viewpoits. My favorite memory at USF was i 2007 whe football was raked #2 i the atio! For a whole week, we were the best team i the state of Florida ad it was a proud momet to be a Bull! WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GOLF MEMORY AT USF? It is hard to pick ay oe memory from the golf team i the early/mid 80s. What I recall most favorably were the relatioships built ad time we spet together playig, practicig ad travelig. It really was like a fraterity ad the team was very close to each other. HOW DID BEING A STUDENT-ATHLETE AT USF PREPARE YOU FOR LIFE AFTER ATHLETICS? Beig a studet-athlete at USF taught me how to master time maagemet skills. I leared how to adjust ad prioritize correctly. I ve bee able to use these skills i my everyday eviromet at work ad at school. WHO WAS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON FOR YOU DURING YOUR CAREER AT USF? Lee Roy Selmo. He ispired me to become greater tha just a basketball player. He iflueced me to esure that oe day I would give back i ways that would motivate others to be great, just as he did. He was ad still is my role model. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE TRANSITIONING AFTER GRADUATION? It was realizig that playig basketball competitively was really over. The game was who I was for several years ad this was how others idetified me. The adjustmet was tough, but also a good time to grow. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO CURRENT USF STUDENT-ATHLETES? Do t give up! Stick to your goals, whatever they may be ad o matter how hard it may seem to accomplish stick to it! Take advatage ad prove your greatess! WHAT DEFINES BEING A STUDENT-ATHLETE AT USF? 10 SELMON MENTORING INSTITUTE It s all about Ehacig A SPECIALIZED MENTORING PROGRAM hoorig the work of the late Lee Roy Selmo, the Selmo Metorig Istitute, is desiged to help USF studet-athletes prepare for professioal life after graduatio. The Selmo Metorig Istitute has a commitmet to helpig studet-athletes achieve their highest potetial i the classroom, i athletics ad especially i their post-collegiate persoal ad professioal lives. The program is a three-year process which culmiates i their seior year with a oe-o-oe metorig experiece. To date, the Selmo Metorig Istitute has prepared over 120 studet-athletes to eter a professioal workplace after the completio of their degree.
