1 CONFIGURING MICROSOFT SECURITY Recent changes to the Microsoft Security suite of apps have resulted in creating an adverse effect on the Prospector system. It may seem that the Prospector Online Updates are freezing or crashing because all activity has seemingly stopped after the Online Update Window has opened but the update is still running. The Online Update now takes a considerable amount of time due to the new Microsoft scanning engine checking each individual file that is being downloaded. Dependent on the speed of your machine and internet connection the Online Update could take up to 45 minutes to complete. We are in communication with Microsoft and are working with them towards a fix in their security apps which will allow the Online Updates to run as normal. Until then you have two options. 1) You can either do nothing, allowing for the additional time that the Online Update will take to complete. You can run the update first thing in the morning or at the end of the day when you have more time. 2) Otherwise you can amend your local security to temporarily exclude the Prospector files to allow the Online Update to bypass the Real Time Protection checks as shown below. HOW TO EXCLUDE FILES/FOLDERS FROM REAL TIME PROTECTION Please be aware that this requires a change to your local desktop security. Whilst we can provide you with instructions on how to configure your local security, IRESS cannot be held accountable for said changes. If you do not feel confident in making such changes then please seek professional IT assistance or leave the Online Update to complete. The issue only affects users of Microsoft Security Essentials; Windows Defender or Microsoft Forefront. Please ensure that one of these applications is actively running on your machine before following the instructions below. We are using Windows Essentials in the example but Windows Defender looks the same. If you are using Microsoft Forefront we would advise that you do seek Professional IT support as there may be permissions that need to be amended/updated as a result. However please click here for the Forefront screenshot on how to configure it.

2 EXCLUDING FILES WITHIN WINDOWS ESSENTIALS: Firstly you will need to open the Windows Essentials control centre by locating the icon and right clicking and selecting Open. From the bottom right hand side of you screen you should hopefully have the icon visible :, If not, then there may be an arrow which once clicked on will give a further list of programs that run when your pc is started. Please locate the following icon Open. in the expanded selection, right click and select Once open go into Settings and then on the left select Exclude files and locations. Click Browse and you will need to locate and Add the following folder(s):

3 WINDOWS XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Trigoldcrystal\Prospector WINDOWS VISTA WINDOWS 7 & 8 (32bit) WINDOWS 7 & 8 (64bit) C:\Program Files(x86)\Trigoldcrystal\Prospector Please note: Midas users or anyone who has Prospector installed into the C Drive directly will need to add C:\Trigold Once you have located the relevant Prospector folder (left click once so it highlights) and click ok You will now need to click on Add and then Save Changes

4 HOW TO DISABLE REAL TIME PROTECTION If the above does not work for you then you can choose to temporarily disable the Real Time Protection completely. This will stop RTP for the whole machine and not just the Prospector files and folders so you will need to feel confident in making this change. Again, IRESS cannot be held accountable when such changes are made. Firstly you will need to open the Windows Essentials control centre by locating the icon and right clicking and selecting Open. 5 Please click into Settings (1) Then Real Time Protection (2) Now un-tick the Turn on real time protection (3) Now click Save Changes (4) Once you have run the Prospector Online Update you will need to re-enable RTP immediately. You must not leave RTP disabled for any extended amount of time. Again launch Windows Essentials from the Toolbar. Please click into Settings (1) Then Real Time Protection (2) Now tick the Turn on real time protection (3) Now click Save Changes (4) Once this issue with Microsoft is resolved we will communicate to all clients to ensure that you reset your desktop security.
