MICROSOFT SQL SERVER 2008 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 has 2 programs that need to be configured to pass through the Windows Firewall or a Third Party Firewall Program. Program Exception An exception may need to be added to either the Windows Firewall or Third Party Firewall Exception List from one of the locations listed below. Ensure the Windows Firewall Setting under Change Scope = My network (subnet) only. Please note the following Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express location is created during the SQL Server 2008 Express installation (If default installation folders are selected). C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.<INSTANCE>\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe Example: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.CONSOLE\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe This installation folder may point to a different location if the Data root directory was changed on the Database Engine Configuration > Data Directories screen during the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express installation. Notes <INSTANCE> is the Named instance entered on the Instance Configuration screen during the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express installation. 50

Browser Firewall Exception Even though the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express installation installs all required files, remote computers may still be unable to connect to the SQL Server 2008 Express computer to open the Office Database(s). If this occurs an exception may need to be entered into the Windows Firewall or Third Party Firewall Exception list to allow the CONSOLE instance to be broadcast over the network. Ensure the Windows Firewall Setting under Change Scope = My network (subnet) only. The program to be added to the Firewall exception list may be found in the following location. C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe Notes More information regarding the firewall process may be found at the following MSDN Website. 51

NETWORK AND SHARING CENTRE CONFIGURATION Access the Network and Sharing Centre in one of the following ways; Click Start Right Click Network and click Properties. Click Start select Network in the top menu, select Network and Sharing Centre. Click Start select Control Pane. Click Network and Internet and then Network and Sharing Centre. Network Location Types (Recommend Setting = Private) When you connect to a network, you must choose a network location. Based on the network location you choose, Windows assigns a network discovery state to the network and opens the appropriate Windows Firewall ports for that state. 52

To change this setting next to the icon is the Network Name (Network Location Type) entry, to the right of the Network Name (Network Location Type) is the Customise option. When you click on Customise the following screen will be displayed: Set the Network Location Type that best describes your Network Type - Domain, Public or Private. The Windows Vista Network Location may be made up of the following types: Domain - The computer is connected to a network that contains an Active Directory domain controller for the domain to which the computer is joined. An example of a domain network type is an organisation intranet. Public - The computer is connected to a network that has a direct connection to the Internet. An example of public network type is Public Internet access networks such as those found in airports, libraries, and coffee shops. Private - The computer is connected to a network that has some level of protection from the Internet and contains known or trusted computers. An example of Private Network type is home networks or small business networks that are located behind an Internet gateway device that provides firewalling against incoming traffic from the Internet. For small business or home office networks ensure the network location type is set to Private. If the office is running under a Network Domain make sure the network location type is set to Domain. 53

Network Discovery (Recommend Setting = On) Network discovery is a network setting that does the following: Affects whether other computers and devices on the network are "visible" from your computer and whether other computers on the network can "see" your computer. Affects whether you can access shared devices and files on other computers on the network and whether people using other computers on the network can access shared devices and files on your computer. Helps provide the right level of security and access to your computer, based on the network location of the networks that you connect to. There are two network discovery states: On - This state enables you to see other network computers and devices from your computer and enables people on other network computers to see your computer. You may also access shared files and devices on other computers and other people may access shared files and devices on your computer. Off - This state prevents you from seeing other network computers and devices from your computer and prevents people on other network computers from seeing your computer. You cannot access shared files and devices on other computers and other people cannot access shared files and devices on your computer. File Sharing (Recommend Setting = On) File Sharing is used to turn file and printer sharing on and off globally. When file sharing is turned on, files and printers that you have shared on this computer may be accessed by other computers on the network. There are two sharing states: Off - Turning off File Sharing will also turn off Public Folder Sharing and Printing Sharing On - Will enable the user to share files and printers with other computers on the network Public Folder Sharing (Recommend Setting = Any Setting) The Public folder is a convenient way to share files that are stored on your computer. You may share files in this folder with other people using the same computer and with people using other computers on the same network. Any file or folder you put in the Public folder is automatically shared with anyone who has access to your Public folder. 54

Printer Sharing (Recommend Setting = Any Setting) Printer Sharing is used to enable sharing of any printers installed on the computer; Turning On this section also enables the File Sharing option. Password Protected Sharing (Recommend Setting = Off) When password protection is on, only people who have a user account and password on this computer can access shared files, printers attached to this computer and the Public folder. To give other people access, you must turn off password protection. Carry out one of the following methods to prevent shared folder connection failures: Add the same accounts and passwords to all computers on your network For example, if you have three computers in your business and four team members that use them, add all four accounts with their passwords corresponding to your team members to all three computers. When this is done, each team member may access the shared folders of the other computers, regardless of which computer they are using. This is the recommended method, which provides protection of shared folders and prevents shared folder connection failures. Disable password protected sharing When you disable password protected sharing, the computer sharing the folder does not require a user account or password. Anyone on your network can access the shared folders of the computer (provided the folder was shared for the Guest or Everyone account). This behaviour is equivalent to simple file sharing in Windows XP. Media Sharing (Recommend Setting = Any Setting) Media Sharing is used to configure access to shared music, pictures and videos on local and remote computers. Notes More information on these settings can be found in the following TechNet Support Sites. 55

EXPORTING GATEWAY LIVE REGISTRY SETTINGS Gateway Live keeps a number of entries in the Microsoft Windows Registry that can be exported to ensure that all workstations that are installed have a common set of settings on all systems. Please see the Notes at the end of this heading for important information regarding the importing or exporting of settings across different Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. INTRODUCTION TO THE GWSHARED FOLDER As part of the installation on a 2 or more Gateway Live installation we share the Gateway 7.0 folder on the Server to the network with a share name of GWShared. The GWShared folder also needs to be shared with Full Control for all Gateway Live office users so they can create, modify or delete files from the GWShared folder in the office without permissions affecting the users ability in Gateway Live. The location for this folder that needs to be shared can be found in the location listed below. Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Console\Gateway 7.0 Windows Vista / Windows Server 2008 / Windows 7 C:\ProgramData\Console\Gateway 7.0 Because the Gateway 7.0 folder has been shared as GWShared the default Gateway Live folders listed above can then be changed to their corresponding network folder (Example - \\VIRTUAL- PC\GWShared\). 56

UNDERSTANDING GATEWAY LIVE FOLDER CONFIGURATIONS Example - The Server shares the Gateway 7.0 folder as GWShared on the server computer called VIRTUAL-PC. Under the shared GWShared folder are the Default Program folders, these would be changed to the following network entries under Tools > Options > Folders in Gateway Live. As described above if the office uses the same Gateway Live user folders when a change is made to one of the files all users will see that change. Notes VIRTUAL-PC relates to the Computer name that has the shared GWShared folder on the network. 57

EXPORTING GATEWAY LIVE REGISTRY SETTINGS As part of a standard installation when installing more than one system with the client, we have the ability to make the installation process easier by exporting 2 Windows Registry Keys that will aid the user in setting up the Gateway Live Folders and Activation configurations. How To Open The Windows Registry Editor Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 Start > Run > regedit Windows Vista / Windows Server 2008 / Windows 7 > Search > regedit 58

EXPORTING GATEWAY LIVE COMMON FOLDER LOCATIONS 1. Open the following registry location - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Console\Gateway 7.0\Paths 2. Right click on Paths and select Export. 3. Save the File as paths.reg to the Shared Gateway 7.0 folder (Example - \\VIRTUAL- PC\GWShared or in the Gateway 7.0 folder listed below). Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Console\Gateway 7.0 Windows Vista / Windows Server 2008 / Windows 7 C:\ProgramData\Console\Gateway

EXPORTING GATEWAY LIVE LICENSE SETTINGS 1. Open the following registry location - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acudata\Sheriff\ProductID\ Right click on and select Export. 3. Save the File as license.reg to the Shared Gateway 7.0 (Example - \\VIRTUAL-PC\GWShared or in the Gateway 7.0 folder listed below). Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Console\Gateway 7.0 Windows Vista / Windows Server 2008 / Windows 7 C:\ProgramData\Console\Gateway

IMPORTING WINDOWS REGISTRY FILES From the workstation(s) installed with Gateway Live we need to import the registry settings that were saved into the folder that is holding the paths.reg and license.reg files. You will need to import the Windows Registry Files over a network via the GWShared Folder on the Server (Example - \\VIRTUAL-PC\GWShared). Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 Start > Run > \\VIRTUAL-PC\GWShared Windows Vista / Windows Server 2008 / Windows 7 > Search > \\VIRTUAL-PC\GWShared 1. This will open you a new window that will show you the 2 Windows Registry Files that were created when you exported the Gateway Live Registry Settings. 61

2. Double Left Click on license.reg and select Run on the Security Warning. 3. Accept the User Account Control (UAC) screen (If Displayed). 4. Select Yes on the Registry Editor Warning screen (If Displayed). 62

5. Then click OK to the Registry Editor screen. 6. Then process Steps 2-5 on the paths.reg file. 7. You can then close any open screens and then run Gateway Live on the workstation(s) as needed. 8. When this workstation has been configured as required then the other workstation(s) can be processed as required involving the details listed below. Program Installation Regional Settings corrected Registry Settings imported Office Database(s) opened Gateway User Settings Checked (Folders, Printing and ) Notes We do not recommend that you export these settings if your Microsoft Windows System Types are not of the same type as described below. Due to the Gateway Live Installation folders and Windows Registry Locations being different between the 2 Microsoft Windows Operating System Types. Example - Windows 7 64bit importing settings into a Windows 7 32bit. However it is possible to import across matching Microsoft Windows Systems Types. Example - Windows 7 32bit importing settings into a Windows Vista 32bit. 63
