1 Carolina Region USA Volleyball Officials Division
2 What is it? The accelerated program provides an avenue for an official to receive more training in a shorter amount of time. This program could possibly take an official that has a Provisional 1 certification and ready them for a Regional 2 certification in 3 seasons.
3 Who is it for? This program is marketed towards officials that have a background in volleyball and understand the sport. Anyone can apply to be in the program, but there is a selection process to determine acceptance.
4 What is the cost and how long? There is no cost to apply to be in the program. Accepted applicants will pay a $150 fee to be in the program for up to 3 years. During these 3 years, they will have multiple opportunities for advanced training. All training from the Officials Division is included in the program fee for candidates.
5 What will the candidates receive? Free admission to detailed training courses, multiple on-court training sessions, specific rule mini-sessions, scorer-proficiency training and rating/evaluation matches.
6 What are these training courses? There will be three training courses (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced). These courses will be offered in the candidates First, Second and Third years respectively. The course will be a 4 hour course to better prepare the applicant for their on-court training and provide rules/scenarios examples. These courses are open to anyone for a $20 fee.
7 What kind of on-court training? The on-court training will be provided at multi-day tournaments. National Level officials will provide realmatch training and feedback. Feedback will not interrupt flow of the match. More detailed feedback will be given after the match has completed. Officials will not be compensated for training days, but will have the opportunity to be compensated should they be accepted to work the 2 nd day of the tournament.
8 What are the mini-sessions? The mini-sessions are specific rule and scenario interpretations. These sessions will be provided on the night before the tournament starts. Approximate time will be 1-2 hours. These mini-sessions are open to anyone for a $10 fee.
9 Scorer Proficiency Training? Each official must know how to keep score. Scorer training will be provided on candidates off matches. They will be required to keep score until they are proficient. They will be given mid-match score sheet issues to resolve.
10 When do I get my next certification? While no certification is guaranteed, there will be opportunities to advance their certification 1 time each year. Within the three year program, they will have the opportunity to receive their Regional 2 certification by the end of the program. This will require the applicant to attend the majority of the training sessions each year.
11 What are the deadlines? Applications must be received no later than Nov 15th Acceptance/Rejection Notification is Dec 1 st for all applicants Will accept up to 12 applicants per season with a max of 24 at any given time in the program.
12 What are the pre-requisites? Maintain Current Carolina Region Membership as a full member each season. Clear USAV Background Screen. Candidates must complete the annual officials clinic and tests prior to participating in the program each season. Candidate must also remain in good-standing.
