COURSE SYLLABUS -in- MITM Advanced Computer Networks Vision A premier and globally competitive university. Mission Provides relevant quality instruction, research and extension. Goal of the College To provide quality instruction and engage in research, extension, and resource generation in the field of Information Technology. Objectives of the Program The Master in Information Technology (MIT) program aims to achieve the following: 1. To strengthen the ICT capability of the region in terms of manpower resources to promote the growth of Information and Communications Technology. 2. To develop in its students the effective use of Information Technology (IT), to solve problems, improve or re-engineer process of organizations. 3. To provide students with theoretical or practical knowledge on various aspects of information systems planning, systems implementation, systems integration and project management. 1

2 I. Degree Program: MASTER IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY II. Course Code: MITM 205 III. Course Title: ADVANCED COMPUTER NETWORKS IV. Credit Units: 3 Total No. of Hours: 54 Total No. of Hours Per Week: 3 V. Course Description: The course covers the study of computer network architectures, protocols, and interfaces. will also include end-to-end protocols, congestion control, high speed networking, and network management. Course Objectives: At the end of the term, the student is expected to be familiar with the underlying principles and theories and applications of computer network along with the data communication within the network. Specifically, the student should be able to: 1. Conceptualize the movement of data among computers involve many different components and methodologies. 2. Apply the theories and operations of the Open Systems Interconnection model. 3. Understand the applicability of the different types of network and the topologies it used. 4. Identify the networking medium, peripherals and devices used in the network. 5. Understand the Local Area Network technologies with the use of Ethernet. 6. Apply the theories and operations of the IP Address that uniquely identifies the devices across the network. 7. Understand the special set of rules that end points in a telecommunication connection. 8. Design and developed the data movement across and internetwork from a source to destination and discovering the best path of data can be sent. 9. Understand the provisions made in an underlying computer network infrastructure, policies adopted by the network administrator to protect the network and the network-accessible resources from unauthorized access and the effectiveness Course Requirements: 1. /s 2. inations 3.
