Welcome: Karen Griffin welcomed the group. Introductions were made. 2. The following tables support the request to change the credentials for faculty for the Sign Language Interpretation Program. The Current requirements are listed in Table 1. Please note that there are 4 sections labeled A, B, C & D. We are requesting some modification to 3 of these sections. Each modification is detailed in its own table. Table #1 Current Requirements Courses at HCC: Transfer/Non Transfer Master s degree in related field or master s degree in non related field, and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) national certification. A INT 2130 INT 2210L INT 2231L INT 2400 INT 2400L INT 2942 B All ASL Master s degree in related field or master s degree in non related field and the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) certification. C SPA 2001 Master s Degree in related field.

The first requested change is to move the interpreting courses into the appropriate categories for the current reality relative to transferring courses to four year institutions. Three courses are currently able to be transferred. These have been kept or moved to this section. The remaining interpreting courses are not able to be transferred individually and have been moved to the non transfer section. Table #2 Proposed requirements Transfer Courses Courses at HCC: Transfer The classes listed below are accepted for transfer to USF & UNF. They should follow rule b. from Guidelines on Transfer Agreements and Faculty Credentials and Qualifications found on page 11. This is the same as our current requirements but there are fewer courses included in this list. b. Faculty teaching associate degree courses designed for transfer to a baccalaureate degree: doctorate or master degree in the teaching discipline or master degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline). And on page 12: Associate in Science Degrees The primary qualification for faculty teaching in career and technical education programs is the master degree in discipline or master and 18 hours in the field. In select career and technical education programs, faculty also may be required to have national accreditation, a current professional license, and/or certificate in the field of specialty. Transfer Courses Minimum Requirements Qualifying Fields A INT 2130 INT 2200 INT 2200L Master s degree in related field or master s degree in non related field, and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) national certification.

Eight courses are currently not able to be transferred. These have been kept or moved to this section. Additionally we are requesting to increase the degree level from our current HCC standard of Associates Degree to a Bachelor s Degree. This will more closely align with the state standards. Table #3 Proposed requirements Non Transfer Courses Courses at HCC: Non Transfer The Interpreting classes listed below are not accepted for transfer to USF & UNF. They should follow rule c. from Guidelines on Transfer Agreements and Faculty Credentials and Qualifications found on page 11. This is an increase in the qualifications from our current qualifications (Associates Degree). c. Faculty teaching associate degree courses not designed for transfer to the baccalaureate degree: Bachelor degree in the teaching discipline, or associate degree and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline. And on page 12: Associate in Applied Science Degrees The primary qualification for faculty teaching in career and technical education programs is the bachelor degree in field. In select career and technical education programs, faculty also may be required to have a current professional license and/or certificate in the field of specialty. Non INT 2210L INT 2231L INT 2400 INT 2400L INT 2942 INT 1941 INT 2201L INT 2930 Bachelor s degree in any field and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) national certification. Bachelors degree in related field is preferred.

The state standards do not dictate which certifications are appropriate or that certifications are required. Table #4 Proposed requirements ASL Courses Courses at HCC: Transfer The American Sign Language classes listed below are may be used as foreign language. They should follow rule c. from Guidelines on Transfer Agreements and Faculty Credentials and Qualifications found on page on page 12: There is nothing in the guidelines specifying which national certifications and work experience and other qualifications may substitute for certifications. This request is to make the certifications preferred rather than required. Associate in Applied Science Degrees The primary qualification for faculty teaching in career and technical education programs is the bachelor degree in field. In select career and technical education programs, faculty also may be required to have a current professional license and/or certificate in the field of specialty. In those select career and technical education programs where advanced degrees are not available, the minimum credential will be a bachelor degree in the discipline, coupled with industry licensure and/or certification, work experience, and other directly related qualifications. All ASL Master s degree in related field or master s degree in non related field. American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) certification or Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) national certification preferred but not required. We are not requesting any change to the SPA requirements. Table #4 The SPA 2001 requirement is not requesting a change. SPA 2001 Master s Degree in related field.
