May the risen Christ bring energy, hope and generous hearts to your ministry. I say the above because it seems like this time of year we are needing a boost. The year has been filled with meetings, programs, in-services, prayer and people. In seeing all of the faces that have touched our lives this year it is like resurrection. Each is a gift that hopefully can lift our spirit and renew our heart. I was at a funeral of one of our sisters the other day and she had written this poem that I thought would be good to share. May it be renewal for you. Seasons come and seasons go- They follow a set progression, Ministers come and ministers go- And each leaves an impression. Now these years in ministry, they have sped bysome quickly, some more slow, But I want you to know: That I learned very much from it, Number 1: how to forgive- Number 2: I learned to turn to God in prayer and supplication, And offer Him, my hurts and yours in quiet meditation. Seasons come, and seasons go- And will, unto infinity, But I can really, truly say: I ll remember With love and continued prayers. -Sr. Laurita Wydra,SSS We come to serve with open hearts, And joyous expectation- That folks in turn will open theirs, And accept our ministration. We hope to be accepted, even loved, Though we can t meet every need; We know we can t please every one- Yet we try, Oh, yes indeed! We d love to be successful In all we do and say, But since this is impossible - We bow our heads and pray Dear Lord, stay with these folks, Keep them steadfast in Your Way; So sometime, some day down the road, We ll meet again, I pray 1

2 Bishop Bob, as we know him, will be leaving to take his new position as Bishop of the Diocese of San Diego. He was a leading light for all of us in the Pastoral Ministry Department. He is especially known for the wonderful program Forward In Faith, speaking at our Pius X Awards Dinners, speaking at the Faith Formation Conference and in our various parish and programs. As they say, no one can replace him but he has taught us much so that we can continue in the work that we do in catechesis. He has a big job ahead of him and we send to San Diego the best. May the blessings and gifts of the Holy Spirit journey with him and guide him in this new assignment. Faith Formation Conference set for Nov. 6-7, 2015 at Santa Clara Convention Center The Faith Formation Conference will be held on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. Theme will be Cultivating Disciples! Cultivando Discípulos! Last year, 2555 parish catechists and catechetical leaders, Catholic school teachers and administrators, clergy, parish pastoral ministers and interested adults from northern California attended the Faith Formation Conference to experience workshops offered in English, Spanish and Vietnamese and 70 exhibiters. Quotes from attendees: I always enjoy coming to the faith formation conference. It is so peaceful and a welcome respite from our chaotic and loud world. Thank you for a glorious day! The talks are excellent and seeing all the brothers and sisters in Christ is very inspiring. I am looking forward to coming back next year. One of my most blessed weekends ever! 3 Remember to recognize your parish catechists by attending the Pius X Awards Dinner with Bishop William Justice on May 7th at St. Mary s Cathedral. Strong Catholic Families, Strong Catholic Youth The Family Faith Resource Booklet for parents is highlighted by a Family Faith Inventory to assist parents in assessing family strengths and starting points to deepen faith as a family and includes strategies, resources and prayers to help support next steps toward that goal. Also available in Spanish. The Strong Catholic Families Guide for Leaders is an overview for church leaders of the Strong Catholic Families process highlighting how parishes and schools can partner more close with parents to bring home the faith. What Do Parents Want from the Church? Survey Results Now Available Over 5,100 people responded to the Strong Catholic Families survey of parents and leaders regarding what they most wanted to hear from the church/church leaders. The results highlight two specific messages that were clear preferences and also indicated that leaders and parents did not always agree on what were the most important messages for parents. 5 The CRS Food Fast is a great service learning project for your youth and Confirmation students. During the day, the students reflect on the poverty and hunger that exists in the world, learn to better appreciate what they have, and learn different ways to serve their families, communities, and the world. Sign up now on our website! The event is free it is just a suggested donation of $10 for CRS, which will go towards the work that they do. We will also be having a speaker from CRS joining us. The Archdiocesan Youth Council (high school students) will be leading the students in activities and sharing their experiences on mission trips. 10 New Books Help Children Put Faith in Action Two beautiful new children's books about putting faith in action are now available from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Loyola Press! Green Street Park is a story about Philip, his family, friends and neighbors, who learn to imitate the model of St. Francis of Assisi by caring for creation in their own neighborhood. In Drop by Drop, Sr. Mary Jerome's classroom receives a visit from Mr. Mike, from Catholic Relief Services. He invites the students to "journey" with him across the world to Burkina Faso, where they learn about how lack of water affects a little girl name Sylvie and her family. These wonderful books are a true treasure to help parents -and all educators- teach children about responding to Christ's call to love God and neighbor, and are perfect for sharing as bedtime stories or in the classroom. The books are available for sale on the Loyola Press website. They make great Baptism and First Communion gifts! Care for God's creation is a theme of both books, so they also help families, parishes and schools prepare for the release of Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment this summer.
