3 SPEAKERS: Erica Anstey Erica has an MA in women s studies and is a certified lactation counselor (CLC). She is pursuing her doctorate in Public Health at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Her research interests include breastfeeding management issues, tongue-tie, breastfeeding disparities, and family-centered care. She is currently working on several studies related to breastfeeding, including a study to better understand college students attitudes and future intentions regarding breastfeeding, and her dissertation on International Board Certified Lactation Consultants' (IBCLCs') perceived professional barriers to managing early breastfeeding problems. Erica is particularly interested in bridging the disciplines of feminist studies and public health as a way to improve maternal and child health outcomes and delivery of care. Julie Doherty, PhD Julie became a Registered Nurse in 1993 and undertook post graduate studies in Paediatric Nursing in She has worked in the area of paediatric nursing for 21 years, and in Child and Family Health Nursing for six years and continues to work in both of these areas. Julie commenced her Nursing career at Sydney Children s Hospital where she worked for five years gaining experience in Neurology, Oncology, Medical and Surgical Nursing. She then moved to The ST. George Hospital where she worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Children s Ward for twelve years, and also gained experience working in the Special Care Nursery. Julie has worked for a number of years in private practice providing families with advice on Sleep and Settling Techniques and continues to work in this area. For the past six years Julie has worked with Paediatric Surgeon Dr Anthony Dilley in his Paediatric Surgical Practice in Sydney. Her role in the practice includes assisting with surgical procedures such as newborn circumcision and release of tongue tie. She is also responsible for assessing newborns with tongue tie and this involves performing ultrasound on the breast fed infants. Julie has particular interest in the areas of Gastro Oesophageal Reflux, Cow s Milk Protein Allergy, Sleep and settling of infants and toddlers and Tongue Tie.

4 Catherine Watson Genna, BS, IBCLC Catherine has been an IBCLC in private practice in NYC since She has a special interest in the anatomical, genetic and neurological influences on infant sucking skills, and writes and speaks internationally on these topics. Her current research projects involve utilizing ultrasound to examine tongue movements during breastfeeding in infants with ankyloglossia; and studying suck:swallow rhythms using cervical auscultation. She is the author of Supporting Sucking Skills in Breastfeeding Infants (Jones and Bartlett Publishers, 2008 and 2013) and Selecting and Using Breastfeeding Tools (Hale Publishing, 2009) and the Associate Editor of the USLCA Journal Clinical Lactation. Alison K. Hazelbaker, PhD, IBCLC, FILCA, CST, RCST Dr. Hazelbaker has been a therapist for nearly 27 years. She specializes in cross-disciplinary treatment and to that end has taken training in several modalities to best assist her clients. She is a certified Craniosacral Therapist, a Lymph Drainage Therapy practitioner, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Along with CranioSacral Therapy and Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, Dr. Hazelbaker utilizes botanicals and homeopathy in her lactation practice. Her original research on tongue-tie, done in 1993, has changed clinical practice both in the USA and abroad. ( She authored the Assessment Tool for Lingual Frenulum Function (ATLFF) during her Master s Degree program. The ATLFF remains the only research-based tongue-tie screening process in infants under 6 months. People recognize her as an expert on infant sucking issues and the treatment of same. As an innovator, she invented the Hazelbaker FingerFeeder to address these sucking problems.

5 Sandra Holtzman, MS, CCC/SLP, COM Sandra is a certified orofacial myologist who is on the Board of Directors and Board of Examiners of the International Association of Orofacial Myology. She is also one of the founding members of the International Affiliation of Tongue tie Professionals. Sandra gives courses and presentations throughout the United States and she is an approved instructor for the 28 hour intensive course that enters SLPs and dental professionals into the certification process for orofacial myology. She is owner and director of Neo-Health Services, Inc., an ASHA CEU provider based in Florida and North Carolina. Sandra has authored online courses for Northern Speech Services, including her newest one, Tongue tie 101 for SLPs: What is OUR Role? She sees selective patients and oversees the product development and sales of The Myo Manual and associated products. Larry Kotlow, DDS Dr. Kotlow has a private dental practice located in Albany, New York since He specializes in Pediatric Dentistry and care for newborn infants having difficulty breastfeeding. He is board certified in Pediatric Dentistry by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his advanced proficiency certification from the Academy of Laser Dentistry in the Erbium Laser and has Standard proficiency using the Nd: YAG and Diode laser. He is a recognized standard proficiency course provider for the Academy of Laser Dentistry and has achieved Mastership in the Academy of Laser Dentistry. He has published many articles on using hard and soft tissue lasers and topics in Pediatric dentistry. He contributed chapters in the following texts, Principles and practice of laser dentistry 2010, Atlas of laser applications in dentistry 2007, to the October 2004 Dental Clinics of North America: Lasers in Clinical Dentistry entitled Lasers in Pediatric Dentistry. He has lectured throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, Israel and Taiwan about pediatric dentistry, breastfeeding problems and lasers.

6 Ben Lynch, ND Dr. Lynch, received his Cell and Molecular Biology, BS from the University of Washington and his ND from Bastyr University. His passion for identifying the cause of disease directed him towards nutrigenomics and methylation dysfunction. Currently, he researches, writes and presents nationwide on the topic of MTHFR and methylation defects. You may learn more about Dr Lynch and his work at Dr Lynch is also the President & CEO of Seeking Health, Inc, a company oriented towards disease prevention and health promotion. Greg Notestine, DDS Dr. Notestine is a native of Dayton, Ohio and a graduate of Wright State University and The Ohio State University of Dentistry. He s had a private practice of dentistry since 1978 and is one of only four dentists in Ohio Accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Since 1984, Dr. Notestine has specialized in the treatment of tongue-tied infants. Holly Puckering, SLP Holly Puckering lives & works in beautiful Tasmania, Australia, with her husband and two children. Following graduation as a Speech Language Pathologist from The University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia), Holly began her career working in the field of Early Intervention for children with significant disability and delay. Since 2006, Holly has held the position of Senior Speech Pathologist for Rehabilitation at the Royal Hobart Hospital in Tasmania, Australia. During this tenure, she has worked with people of all ages suffering from communication disorders and dysphagia with a wide background

7 of aetiologies. After developing a special interest in dysphagia management, Holly opened a private practice in Holly has been working alongside a variety of dedicated professionals and as a member of the IATP to enhance the quality of care available to all individuals living with ankyloglossia, both before and after frenectomy. Jennifer Tow, IBCLC An IBCLC since 1996, Jennifer Tow has established a reputation for working with parents to resolve complex feeding problems, relying on information gathered from across a wide field of study. Through her clinical experience and research, and inspired by a 15-year fascination with epigenetics, she has come to focus her interest in the area of gut health and healing, exploring the profoundly far-reaching implications of this work for breastfeeding dyads. Jennifer works with clients internationally, primarily through Skype, specializing in helping dyads presenting with a wide range of concerns associated with compromised gut function, structural restrictions and tongue-tie. She integrates a myriad of holistic modalities, such as nutrition, herbs, home remedies and energy medicine, often collaborating with other holistic practitioners in mentoring the families she works with. Jennifer views breastfeeding as primal nutrition and is currently writing a book and developing a curriculum on Holistic Practices in Lactation. She divides her time between France and CT/USA. She can be contacted through her blog Sharon Vallone, DC, FICCP Dr. Vallone is a graduate of Rutgers University (AB Microbiology 1978) and New York Chiropractic College (1986). She completed her Diplomate in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics in 1996 through Palmer College and received her appointment as Fellow in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics in Dr. Vallone has a private practice limited to high risk pregnancies and challenged children in Connecticut and is currently the Chair of the Board of Kentuckiana Children s Center in Louisville, KY and the Vice Chair of the International Chiropractic Association s Council Pediatric Council. She is an international speaker, author, and editor of the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics. Sharon brings 25+ years of pediatric chiropractic experience with a primary interest in pregnancy, birth trauma, breastfeeding and problems with infant /toddler neurodevelopment. Her role will be to support the attendees with understanding the relationship between structure and function and how this ties in with physical limitations like tongue

8 and lip tie, the biomechanical assessment and description and discussion of manual therapies available to assist the breastfeeding dyad.
