2 Terms and Conditions Booking All bookings will be confirmed by . To reserve a place a non-refundable deposit of 100 is required together with the completed Booking Form. No booking will be fully confirmed until payment is received in full. We accept payment by cheque or bank transfer. Student Cancellations and Changes We regret that no refund is payable although we may be able to offer you a place on a subsequent film school free of charge in case of cancellation due to illness/injury. Insurance All students in our care are covered by Public Liability Insurance. However, students personal belongings are not covered by our insurance policy. Mobile phones, electronic devices and valuables Due to the risk of loss and distraction during activities we ask that all mobile phones or other electronic devices are switched off during our film school, they can be used during breaks and free time in the evening. Please do not bring other valuables to film school. We cannot be held responsible if items go missing or compensate for them although we shall use our best endeavours to return all items of lost property. First Aid In the event of an accident, first aid will be administered to students in our care, and the emergency services will be called if necessary. Available Dates and Activities All the information contained within our literature is correct at time of publication. Changes may occur and we ll endeavour to inform parents of any changes as soon as possible. Programmes may be subject to change in the event of circumstances beyond our control e.g. bad weather. Student Exclusion On rare occasions, a student proves incompatible with the general well being of the group e.g. by bulling, disruptive or aggressive behaviour. We reserve the right to exclude such students and no refund will be made for the remaining days booked. 3 Frequently Asked Questions Are we insured? UK Film School and Grendon Hall have all the necessary insurances including Public Liability Insurance to 5 million. Public Liability insurance does not cover for personal accident or loss or damage to personal property. We advise you to take out insurance if you wish to have cover for personal accident or loss or damage to personal property or for cancellation through sickness, injury or any other reasons, as we are not able to offer a refund in these circumstances. What about health & safety? To ensure everyone s safety risk assessments are regularly reviewed, they cover all aspects of Grendon Hall from the facilities to activities. We have an excellent health and safety record. All Grendon Hall and UK Film School staff has enhanced DBS checks. Each activity instructor at Grendon Hall holds a recognised governing body qualification within the discipline that they are instructing in, or a statement of competence signed by an appropriately experienced and qualified person in accordance with the requirements of the licensing regulations. Each member of the team at UK Film School works professionally within the film and TV industry and has a wealth of experience of working with and mentoring young people. A suitably experienced member of the Grendon Hall team is responsible for every student s pastoral care throughout the duration of the residential. What does my child need to bring? We have provided a kit list in our information pack. Generally comfortable, practical clothing is best for filmmaking e.g. jeans, t-shirt and trainers. Students will need sensible footwear and please don t forget a warm hoodie and a waterproof coat and footwear, just in case the weather is bad. Students can also bring along any costumes or props they may want to wear or use in their film. All filming equipment will be supplied by UK Film School and all other equipment is provided by Grendon Hall. With the exception of a mobile phone and laptop, which is useful for script writing etc., we recommend that students do not bring any personal items of value to Film School. We recommend that students bring some spending money for the tuckshop & if they want to purchase a hoodie or baseball cap (details below). There is also an optional supervised visit to the local pub/restaurant where students will be able to socialise with each other, the instructors and our film making mentors. Grendon Hall and UK Film School cannot be held responsible for any personal items lost or damaged. What if my child is homesick? If a student is becoming distressed our experienced staff are trained to take appropriate action. Please inform us if this is your child s first residential experience, or if they usually experience homesickness during stays away from home, please include this information in section 14 of the medical consent form.

4 What are the sleeping arrangements? Students sleep in dormitory style bedrooms with separate accommodation for males and females. Staff rooms are located on each floor of the bedrooms. Grendon Hall is proud to hold a Heartbeat Award, which means they are committed to providing healthier food choices in a healthier environment. Our menus are carefully constructed to ensure that we offer a balanced selection of carbohydrates, lean protein, fibre and fresh fruit and vegetables. We also aim to reduce salt, sugar and fat levels by monitoring the food we serve and using healthy cooking methods. We can provide vegetarian options and can cater for students with dairy and/or gluten intolerance. There is always plenty of healthy, tasty, food provided and a tuck shop available so students will not need to bring additional snacks. What if my child has never done adventure activities before, or is nervous about taking part? Our activities are delivered on a Challenge by Choice basis. This means that each student is encouraged on an individual basis to achieve the best they can. All of our activities are on an introductory level and are primarily aimed at having fun. What will they be doing with UK Film School over the week? During the 5-day residential course students will experience all aspects of film making and will learn how to use professional camera equipment while creating and acting in their film. One evening they also have the chance to take part in a Special Effects Make Up (SFX) workshop. How long are the days they have to film? Students will take part in film making from 9am until 4pm every day with the UK Film School team. During the day they take part in the many different activities based around filmmaking with plenty of breaks throughout. Once filming has finished, what activities will they take part in? After dinner students will be able to take part in an adventure activity. Grendon Hall offer a choice of activities including climbing, swamp ropes, archery, canoeing etc. Activities are subject to weather, availability, and group consensus. After the adventure activity students will take part in free time until bedtime, this can include an activity such as a pool party, movie or fire pit. Do they get a copy of the film once they have made it? Yes. Once the film has been professionally edited students will receive a free copy of their film.

5 Will my child leave the premises of Grendon Hall at any time? Yes. Most filmmaking will take place in Grendon Hall s extensive grounds; however, some filming may take place outside the grounds at various locations. Adequate supervision will be provided and health and safety regulations will be upheld. There is also an optional and supervised early evening visit to the local pub/restaurant. How will this residential benefit my child? Our residential will be beneficial in many ways. Students will experience the thrill of being part of a professional production and film crew, working as a team and co-operating with each other. This course can help students decide if they would like to pursue a career in filmmaking and allows them to gain skills for further education and the workplace. Each student has a responsibility in the making of the film and can enjoy all aspects and roles in the filmmaking process. For young people interested in the world of film, this experience is perfect for them. Students will be able to enjoy the wonderful setting and activities at Grendon Hall make new friends and grow in confidence away from the home environment. For students who are doing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award this course qualifies as the residential part of the award and a Duke of Edinburgh advisor is on hand at Grendon Hall to give students the opportunity to upload their evidence to the Duke of Edinburgh Award website.
