1 Ms. Samantha Fuhrey NCSS School Superintendent Ms. Samantha Fuhrey is the Superintendent of Newton County Schools. She attended Marywood University, the State University of West Georgia, and Georgia College & State University. She holds a bachelors degree, a masters in education degree, and an education specialist degree. She chose her colleges because of the strong reputations they had for challenging and supporting students. Her favorite courses were philosophy, education law, curriculum development, human resources, and English. Her best college memories include making connections with her professors, participating in the graduation ceremonies, and learning from practitioners.
2 Dr. Craig Lockhart Deputy Superintendent Dr. Craig Lockhart is the NCSS Deputy Superintendent of Schools. He attended Fort Valley State University, Georgia State University, and Argosy University. He has earned a bachelors in biology and a masters and educational doctorate in Education Leadership. He chose his colleges because he wanted to attend public universities in Georgia. His favorite college class was parasitology. His best college memory is joining Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
3 Dr. Kim Coady Principal: East Newton Elementary Dr. Kim Coady is the principal of East Newton Elementary School. She attended Clayton State University, Georgia College, and Georgia State University. While in college she studied dental hygiene, elementary education, and teaching and learning: language and literacy. She has earned an AA in dental hygiene, a masters in education in early childhood education, an education specialist in early childhood education, and a Ph.D in teaching and learning. Her favorite courses were biology, children s literature, microbiology, early childhood education classes, and reading classes. Her best memory is of all the people that she got to know and the friendships she developed through her college experiences.
4 Dr. Naomi Cobb Principal: Fairview Elementary Dr. Naomi Cobb is the principal of Fairview Elementary School. She attended Gulf Coast Community College, the University of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Argosy University of Atlanta. She has earned an associate degree, a bachelors, masters, specialist, and doctorate degree. She chose the universities she attended because they all had reputations for being quality colleges. Her best collegiate memory is graduation day and walking down the aisle to receive something she worked so hard for.
5 Dr. Lynne DiNardo Principal: Flint Hill Elementary Dr. Lynne DiNardo is the principal of Flint Hill Elementary School. She attended Fitchburg State College, Troy University, West Georgia, and Walden University. While in college she studied elementary education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, and curriculum. She has earned a bachelors of science, masters in education, and an educational doctorate. Her favorite course was teaching reading in the elementary school. Her favorite college memory is student teaching.
6 Ms. Marquita Wilkins Principal: Heard-Mixon Elementary Ms. Marquita Wilkins is the principal of Heard-Mixon Elementary School. She attended Georgia College and State University, Georgia Southwestern University, Troy State University, and the University of West Georgia. While in college she studied early childhood education and educational leadership. She has earned a bachelors degree, a masters in education, and an educational specialist degree. Her favorite courses were reading (literature), mathematics, and dance (folk and tap). Her favorite college memories include field experiences, student teaching, and cheering for sports teams in the student section.
7 Ms. Ericka Anderson Principal: Live Oak Elementary Ms. Ericka Anderson is the principal of Live Oak Elementary School. She attended Georgia Southern, Georgia College & State University, and West Georgia University. She has earned a bachelors degree in early childhood education; and both a masters degree and education specialist degree in education leadership. She chose Georgia Southern because she fell in love with the school after visiting it in high school. Her favorite college class was her childcare practicum and her favorite memory is graduation because her entire family (all 40 of them) came for the celebration.
8 Dr. Patrick Carter Principal: Livingston Elementary Dr. Patrick Carter is the principal of Livingston Elementary School. He attended Morehouse College, Christian Brothers University, and Capella University. While in college he studied mathematics, education, and educational leadership. He holds a bachelors degree, masters in education, and a Ph.D. His favorite courses were advanced calculus, differential equations, educational psychology, multicultural education, instructional technology for effective classroom practices, statistics for educational research, and education and the law. His best memory is walking the stage at Morehouse College and seeing tears in his mother s eyes.
9 Dr. Lori Thomas Principal: Mansfield Elementary Dr. Lori Thomas is the principal of Mansfield Elementary School. She attended LaGrange College, University of West Georgia, the University of Sarasota, and Argosy University. While in college she studied early childhood education, reading, and educational leadership. Her favorite courses were literature and reading courses. Her best college memory is spending time with friends along with having no responsibilities other than making good grades.
10 Dr. Michael Forehand Principal: Middle Ridge Elementary Dr. Michael Forehand is the principal of Middle Ridge Elementary School. He attended Jacksonville State University and Liberty University. While in college he studied elementary education and educational leadership. He has a bachelors in elementary education, a masters in elementary education, an educational specialist degree in educational leadership, and a doctorate in educational leadership. His favorite courses were educational law, theatre, and music. His favorite college memory is learning and spending time with life-long friends from around the world.
11 Mr. James Meneguzzo Principal: Newton County Theme School at Ficquett Mr. James Meneguzzo is the principal of the Newton County Theme School at Ficquett. He attended Northern Michigan University, the University of Georgia, and Nova Southeastern University. While in college he studied math and business administration, business education, and educational leadership. He has earned a bachelors, masters, and education specialist degree. His favorite courses were math, business, business education, and instructional leadership. His favorite college memory is learning from the experiences shared by his classmates and colleagues.
12 Dr. Brenda Gammans Principal: Oak Hill Elementary Dr. Brenda Gammans is the principal of Oak Hill Elementary School. She has earned four degrees from Georgia State University a bachelor in elementary education; a master in middle school education; an education specialist in secondary mathematics; and a Ph.D. in math education. Her favorite courses were mathematics and sciences (chemistry, botany, and physics). Her best memories are from each of her graduations.
13 Ms. Nikkita Warfield Principal: Porterdale Elementary Ms. Nikkita Warfield is the principal of Porterdale Elementary School. She attended Walden University, Central Michigan University, and Fort Valley State University. She has earned a bachelor s degree in middle grade education, master s in educational instruction, an education specialist degree in educational leadership, and is currently working on her doctorate in curriculum and instruction. Ms. Warfield chose Fort Valley because it was her first university experience as a child her parents are alumni and she attended homecoming every year! Her favorite courses were language arts and reading. Her favorite college memory is when she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
14 Dr. Miranda Jones Principal: Rocky Plains Elementary Dr. Miranda Jones is the principal of Rocky Plains Elementary School. She attended Fort Valley State University, West Georgia College, Troy State University, and Nova Southeastern University. While in college she studied political science. She has earned a bachelors in education, a masters degree, an education specialist degree, and her doctorate. She chose Fort Valley State University because she received a four-year full academic scholarship! Her favorite courses were government and reading styles. Her best college memory is when she met her husband.
15 Ms. Terran Newman Principal: South Salem Elementary Ms. Terran Newman is the principal of South Salem Elementary School. She attended Jacksonville State University, Mercer University, and Georgia State University, where she earned a Bachelor s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master s Degree in Middle Grades Education, and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership respectively. She chose the colleges she attended because she knew they all had excellent education programs; she also enjoyed being at each of the campuses. Her favorite courses were children s literature, child psychology, and teaching music in the classroom. Her favorite college memory is playing piccolo in the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners during halftime at football games.
16 Dr. Takila Curry Principal: West Newton Elementary Dr. Takila Curry is the principal of West Newton Elementary School. She attended the State University of West Georgia, Jacksonville State University, and Georgia Southern University. While in college she studied early childhood education and leadership/administration. She holds a bachelors of science in early childhood education; and a masters, education specialist, and doctorate in educational administration. Her favorite college courses were history and leadership. Her favorite college memories were of joining Zeta Phi Beta sorority, being the first in her family to graduate from college, and making life-long friends.
17 Ms. Joy Warren Principal: Clements Middle Ms. Joy Warren is the principal of Clements Middle School. She attended Georgia Southern University and Georgia College & State University where she studied middle grades education and educational leadership/ administration. She has earned a bachelors in middle grades education, masters in educational leadership/administration, and a specialist in educational leadership/administration. Her reason for choosing her colleges was because of their great education programs. Her favorite course was an internship at Sandersville Elementary in Washington County. Her best college memory is working at the schools during practicums with elementary and middle school students.
18 Dr. Makeba Clark Principal: Cousins Middle Dr. Makeba Clark is the principal of Cousins Middle School. She attended Albany State University, Central Michigan University, the University of Georgia, and Argosy University. She holds a bachelor s degree in middle grades education, a master s degree in art in K-12 instruction, an add-on educational leadership, an educational specialist degree in curriculum and instruction, and a doctorate in teaching and learning. She chose her colleges because of their history, flexibility, and educational programs. Her favorite courses were math and science methods and also student teaching. Her best college memory of Albany State University is homecoming and the Fountain City Classic.
19 Dr. Renee Mallard Principal: Indian Creek Middle Dr. Renee Mallard is the principal of Indian Creek Middle School. She attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Georgia State University. While in college she studied psychology and early childhood education, reading, language and literacy, and teaching and learning. She has earned a bachelors degree, masters in education, an education specialist degree, and her Ph.D. Her favorite courses included cognitive psychology, sociology, adolescent literature, and a case study in methodology. Her best college memories include making life-long friends and walking across the stage and being hooded by her chair for her doctorate degree.
20 Ms. Keisa Taylor Principal: Liberty Middle School Ms. Keisa Taylor is the principal of Liberty Middle School. She attended Georgia Southern University, Mercer University, Nova Southeastern University, and Argosy University. While in college she studied education, curriculum and instruction, and educational leadership. She has earned a bachelors of art in middle grades education, masters in educational leadership, and an education specialist degree in curriculum and instruction. Her favorite course was multiple intelligences. Her favorite college memory is the fact that she represented the state of Georgia as the starting wide receiver for women s flag football!
21 Mr. James Peek Principal: Veterans Memorial Middle Mr. James Peek is the principal of Veterans Memorial Middle School. He attended Georgia College & State University, where he studied history and educational leadership. During his educational career, he has earned a bachelors, masters, and education specialist degree. He chose his college because of the school s excellent record of producing effective educators, the student to teacher ratio, and the beautiful campus. His favorite courses were cultural diversity and all history courses. His best college memory is when he was voted president of his college fraternity.
22 Dr. Sandra Owens Principal: Alcovy High Dr. Sandra Owens is the principal of Alcovy High School. She attended the University of Central Arkansas, Central Michigan University, University of Tennessee, University of Georgia, and Walden University. While in college she studied accounting, human resource management, mathematics education, and education leadership. She has earned a bachelors in arts, masters in arts, education specialist, and an education doctorate. Her favorite college course was statistics and her best college memory was her mother telling her how proud she was of her when she earned her doctorate.
23 Mr. Jeff Cher Principal: Eastside High Mr. Jeff Cher is the principal of Eastside High School. He attended Georgia Southwestern State University, Piedmont College, and Argosy University. During college he studied math education and secondary math education. He has earned a bachelors degree, masters degree, and an education specialist degree. His favorite courses were linear algebra and calculus. His favorite memory is game nights with friends.
24 Mr. John Ellenberg Principal: Newton High School Mr. John Ellenberg is the principal of Newton High School. He attended Georgia College and State University, Piedmont College, and the University of West Georgia. While in college he studied biology, secondary science education, and educational leadership. He holds a bachelor of science in biology, a masters of arts in teaching for secondary science education, and an education specialist degree in educational leadership. His favorite courses were zoology and school law. His best college memory happened during student teaching, when he used a student-focused lesson that allowed students to monitor the rate of photosynthesis of various plants. He remembers the look of amazement on the students faces when they realized that photosynthesis wasn t just a formula on paper but a biological process that could be tested. The light bulb coming on for the students and their desire to learn more about science hooked him on teaching.
25 Mr. Chad Walker Principal: Newton College & Career Academy Mr. Chad Walker is the principal of the Newton College & Career Academy. He attended Young Harris College, the University of Georgia, and Piedmont College. While in college he studied secondary mathematics and curriculum and instruction. He holds a bachelor of science in education, a master of arts in secondary mathematics, and an education specialist degree in instruction and curriculum. He chose the University of Georgia because he was a huge Georgia fan. Plus the College of Education at UGA had a great reputation for secondary mathematics. His favorite course in college was Special Problems in Mathematics. His best collegiate memory is any given Saturday in the Fall! Go DAWGS!
26 Mr. Mike Barr Executive Director of Operations Mr. Mike Barr is the NCSS Executive Director of Operations. He attended Mercer University, Troy University, and the University of Georgia. While in college he studied organization leadership, postsecondary education, and educational administration and policy. He has earned a bachelors degree, masters degree, and an education specialist degree. His favorite courses were Idea of the University by Dr. Thomas Kail and World Religions by Dr. Colin Harris. His best college memory is the sense of accomplishment after completing the programs.
27 Mr. Benjamin Roundtree Director of Elementary Schools Mr. Benjamin Roundtree is the NCSS Director of Elementary Schools. He attended the University of Georgia, Fort Valley State University, and Georgia College and State University. Mr. Roundtree holds a bachelor s degree in journalism, a master s degree in middle grades education, and a specialist in education degree in middle grades education. He also has a leadership certificate in education administration and supervision as well as an endorsement in gifted education. He selected each of his universities solely on the strength of the program he intended to pursue. His favorite courses as an undergraduate were his English and history courses. As a graduate student, he enjoyed studying critical issues in education, creative and logical thought in children, and the sociology of education. His favorite college memories are of attending University of Georgia football games.
28 Ms. Shannon Buff Director of Secondary Schools Ms. Shannon Buff is the NCSS Director of Secondary Schools. She attended the University of Georgia, Georgia College & State University, and Walden University. While in college she studied social science education and educational leadership. She holds a bachelors degree in social science, a masters degree and an education specialist degree in educational leadership. She is currently working on her doctorate. Her favorite college courses were her history and political science courses. Her best college memory is graduating on the football field of UGA and being able to walk through the arches.
29 Ms. Jan Loomans Director of Operations Ms. Jan Loomans is the NCSS Director of Operational Services. She attended Auburn University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Georgia State University. While in college she studied food and nutrition, dietetics, and business administration. She has earned a bachelors degree, an MBA, and has a certificate in dietetics. Her favorite courses were nutritional biochemistry, pediatric nutrition, and strategic marketing. Her best memory is the school pride and spirit she still has!
30 Dr. Gary Shattuck Director of Technology & Media Services Dr. Gary Shattuck is the NCSS Director of Technology and Media Services. He attended the University of California-Los Angeles, Piedmont College, and the University of Georgia. While in college he studied history, social studies education, and instructional technology. He has earned a bachelors, masters, education specialist, and doctorate. He chose his college because of the great program of study and the fact that he received a football scholarship. His favorite courses were historical research and his doctoral seminar. His best college memories are completing his dissertation and graduation.
31 Ms. Nyree Sanders Director of Human Resources Ms. Nyree Sanders is the NCSS Director of Human Resources. She attended Auburn University and the University of Central Florida. While in college she studied psychology and business and industrial and organizational psychology. She has a bachelor of arts in psychology and a masters degree in industrial and organizational psychology. She chose Auburn University because she fell in love with the campus after her first visit; she also was awarded a four-year presidential scholarship. Her favorite courses were psychology and testing and research methods. Her favorite college memory is her pledging/sorority initiation in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
32 Ms. Erica Robinson Executive Financial Manager Ms. Erica Robinson is the NCSS Executive Financial Manager. She earned a bachelor s degree in accounting with a minor in management from Mercer University and her master s in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Brenau University. She earned her CPA license in Erica chose Mercer University because of its reputation as well as the size and location of the campus. Her favorite courses were accounting and math courses. Her best college memory is of meeting new people and building great friendships.
33 Ms. Sherri Davis-Viniard Director of Public Relations Ms. Sherri Davis-Viniard is the Director of Public Relations for Newton County Schools. She attended Salisbury State University where she majored in Communications with a minor in French. She holds a bachelor of arts in communications. Ms. Davis-Viniard chose Salisbury University because it was located in her hometown and had a very strong communications program. Her favorite courses were psychology, French, and broadcast journalism. Her favorite memories include the theatre club s trip to London, England and the history club s trip to Savannah, Georgia.
34 Mr. Alan Satterfield Director of Special Education Ms. Alan Satterfield is the NCSS Director of Special Education. He attended the Georgia College & State University and Georgia Southern University. He has earned a bachelors in special education; a masters in education in educational administration and supervision; and an education specialist degree in educational leadership. He chose the universities he attended because of their size, location, and reputation. His favorite course was school law and his top memory is building relationships with his peers and professors.
35 Dr. Allison Jordan Director of Testing, Research, & Evaluation Dr. Allison Jordan is the NCSS Director of Testing, Research, and Evaluation. She attended Georgia Southern University and the University of Georgia. She has earned a masters in education; an educational specialist, and a doctorate in education. She chose GSU because it is a great college of education and UGA because it is the top research university in the state. Her favorite courses were in leadership and research. Her best college memory is the fact that she married her husband and graduated with excellent grades and GPA.
36 Mr. Darren Berry Director of Student Services Mr. Darren Berry is the NCSS Director of Student Services. He attended Georgia College and State University and the University of Georgia. He studied criminal justice, special education, and education leadership and holds a bachelors degree, masters degree, and an education specialist degree. His favorite courses were logic, statistics, and Latin. His best college memories are of football games and studying on North Campus in the Spring time.
37 Dr. Shelia Thomas Director of Federal Programs Dr. Shelia Thomas is the NCSS Director of Federal Programs. She attended Columbus State University, Troy State University, and the University of Sarasota. During college she studied criminal justice, education, and educational leadership. She holds a bachelors of science in criminal justice, a masters in education, a specialist degree in educational leadership and a doctorate in educational leadership. Her favorite courses were foundations of education and student teaching. Her best college memory is building college friendships.
38 Ms. Deena Sams Director of Afterschool and Community Affairs Ms. Deena Sams is the NCSS Director of Afterschool and Community Affairs. She attended Paine College, Troy University, and Mercer University. While in college she studied biology, post-secondary education, and clinical mental health counseling. She has earned a bachelors degree and two masters degrees. She is also a licensed associate professional counselor (LAPC). Her favorite courses were biology and labs, history of education, psychology, counseling theories, and helping skills. Her best college memories include being the first grandchild in her family to graduate from college, attending her mom s alma mater, pledging a sorority, and finding life-long friends.
39 Ms. Brooke Ramsey Coordinator of Elementary Special Education Ms. Brooke Ramsey is the NCSS Coordinator of Elementary Special Education. She attended Georgia College & State University and Georgia Southern. She has earned a bachelors degree in interrelated special education; a masters degree in educational administration/ supervision; and an education specialist degree in educational leadership. She is currently working on her doctorate in educational leadership. Her favorite classes were school law, sociology, and behavior management. Her best collegiate memory is working with students with special needs throughout the community.
40 Dr. Darrell Daniel Coordinator of Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Darrell Daniel is the NCSS Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator. He attended the City University of New York, Brooklyn College, Touro College, and Argosy University. He holds a bachelors in mathematics, a masters in mathematics education, a masters in K-12 school leadership, and doctorate in higher educational leadership. His favorite courses in college were calculus I, II, and III. He chose the college he attended because of their great reputations for scholarly educational programs. He said his favorite college memory is playing college soccer.
41 Ms. Melissa Jackson Instructional Technology Coordinator Ms. Melissa Jackson is the NCSS Instructional Technology Coordinator. She attended Mercer University, Troy State University, and Lincoln Memorial University. She holds a bachelor of science in elementary education and teaching, a master of education in educational leadership and administration, and an educational specialist degree in educational administration and supervision. She chose her colleges because of their convenient locations and outstanding reputations. Her favorite courses were curriculum design and multicultural education. Her best college memory is riding to Lincoln Memorial in Tennessee once a month and the collaboration and learning that took place during those trips.
42 Mr. Tim Schmitt Coordinator of Career, Technical, & Agricultural Education (CTAE) Mr. Tim Schmitt is the NCSS Coordinator of CTAE. He attended the University of Georgia, University of West Alabama, and Lincoln Memorial University. While in college he studied technology education, school counseling, educational leadership, and workforce education. He hold a bachelors degree, a masters degree, and an education specialist degree and is currently working on his doctorate. He chose UGA because it was a large school with a diverse student body and offered nearly every degree a student could choose. His favorite courses were impacts of technology on society, principles of technology, and physics. His best college memory is game day in Athens, rooting for UGA to win!
43 Mr. Tony Trimaldi Coordinator of Secondary Special Education Mr. Tony Trimaldi is the NCSS Coordinator of Secondary Special Education. He attended Chipola Jr. College, Palm Beach Community College, University of Florida, and Georgia State University. He has earned a bachelor s degree in psychology, a master s degree in behavior and learning disabilities, and an education specialist degree in educational leadership. He chose the University of Florida because he fell in love with the school when he attended his first Gator football game! His favorite course was an undergraduate lab in cognitive psychology. His best college memory is sitting with his college roommates in the rain-soaked stands of the Gator Bowl in 1993 watching the University of Florida beat the University of Georgia
44 Dr. Keith Benton Testing Coordinator Dr. Keith Benton is the NCSS Testing Coordinator. He attended Tuskegee University, the University of Georgia, Georgia College and State University, and Argosy University. He holds a bachelor s degree in social work, a masters of social work, an educational specialist degree in educational leadership, and a doctorate in educational leadership. He chose Tuskegee because the university offered him and his best friend football scholarships. His favorite college courses were school law and finance, humanities through the arts, business administration, organizational leadership, introduction to social work, and program evaluation. His best college memories include being the first one in his family to graduate college, winning the conference championship, being named All-American and All-Conference in football, his professional football tryout, getting inducted into the National Honors Society, and meeting his wife.
45 Ms. Amie Cumming Coordinator of Student Services Ms. Amie Cumming is the NCSS Coordinator of Student Services. She attended Georgia College, Piedmont College, and Lincoln Memorial University. She holds a bachelor s degree in middle grades, a master s degree in elementary education, and an education specialist degree in educational leadership and supervision. Ms. Cumming chose Georgia College because it was a family tradition. She never even considered another school. Her favorite college classroom experience was in her first educational class. The teachers, retired educators, taught the students how to behave like teachers. She has never forgotten anything she learned from them. By far her best college memory was graduation!

She attended the University of North Georgia, Walden University, the University of Georgia, and Georgia State. While in college she studied early childhood and special education, reading and literacy, educational administration and policy, and educational leadership. She holds a bachelors degree, masters in education, educational specialist degree, and is currently working on her doctorate in educational leadership. Her favorite classes were curriculum classes for teaching early childhood. Her best college memory is creating life-long relationships with friends and professors.
