1 Abermed Medical Training Services Prospectus g About Abermed Training

2 About Abermed and International SOS Abermed has delivered healthcare training since its inception in the early 1980s and offers comprehensive healthcare training globally. At Abermed we take pride in our ability to offer added value, cost effective and tailored training to meet the needs of your business. We maintain the highest standards set in all elements of our training provision from identification and training of trainers, development of modular, course and programme content and delivery methodology. We have practical experience and knowledge based on over 25 years of providing UK medics to offshore installations in the North Sea and the provision of Occupational Health Services throughout the UK. We operate across a variety of different industries and to the Energy Sector worldwide. With links to our parent company International SOS plus our in-house Learning and Development expertise, we believe we are the ideal choice for the provision of high quality training on a wide range of medical topics delivered around the world. Training Methodology Our training provision ranges from short hour-long sessions focusing on specific medical or occupational health topics of particular interest to the client to traditional week-long classroom based courses. We also deliver comprehensive Learning Programmes involving a variety of instructional methodology, such as Distance Learning modules, Tutor Support, Tutorials and Moulages (use of modeling to represent medical conditions and emergencies). Abermed were the first and remain one of the very few training providers who are approved by the UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to deliver training through this 'blended learning' approach. The advantage of this type of training is the convenience of being able to complete particular sections of the course whenever and wherever the delegate wants and at the delegate s own pace. In addition, there is less downtime for delegates away from their workplace. There is evidence that this multi-format learning provides a higher skill level than classroom based learning alone - it helps enhance retention rates and reduces skill fade over time. It has also been shown to be a more economical way of training, reducing overall travel time/costs and inconvenience. Realistic Practical Scenarios Effective training relies on quality theory being brought to life through realistic practical scenarios. Abermed ensure that our training is interactive and practical wherever possible with course scenarios tailored to situations that are realistic to the delegate s working environment, whether that be an offshore installation, a manufacturing plant or within a corporate office. We can also tie into the client s specific protocols and/or medical emergency plans. 1 1

3 Equipment The practical demonstrations on our courses make use of a wide variety of specialist medical equipment (both actual and training models). Our use of convincing mock injuries helps to create scenarios that are as close to real-life as possible. This high level of realism enables delegates to put into practice the theoretical topics covered in the training. Training Facilities Abermed is able to deliver training from our dedicated facilities based in the Airport Fire Training Centre in Aberdeen, UK. Our facilities replicate the medical environment with two mock sick bays set up with a variety of medical equipment. Separate tutorial and break out rooms are used and a variety of outside installations are available for moulage exercises, for example medical emergencies in confined spaces and falls from heights. We are also able to mobilise and deliver training at client premises and training facilities around the world. Trainers and Assessors Abermed prides itself on the quality of the personnel who deliver our training, with all courses delivered and assessed by UK qualified medical professionals with significant relevant industry experience. A number of our courses involve formal assessment and these are carried out by personnel independent of the training delivery, to maintain course integrity. Of course we can t guarantee each delegate will pass the formal assessment element of the training but we have an exceptionally high success rate and are often used by clients to assess performance and help establish development plans for their personnel. Delegates receive a Certificate of Attendance on completion of Abermed s training courses and most of our formal courses provide successful candidates with an official certificate issued with the appropriate professional body accreditation, such as UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) or Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). Training Courses Abermed offer a range of formal prescribed courses plus training on smaller ad-hoc medical, occupational health and diving medicine topics. Please refer to the tables on the following pages for a brief overview of each and should you need further information or wish to discuss a bespoke requirement, please contact us details at the end of the document. 2 2

4 First Aid at Work Scheduling Accreditation This course is designed for non medical personnel who wish to become a qualified First Aider. The UK Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide suitable first-aid equipment, facilities and personnel to enable immediate assistance to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. 3 days (1 Day Refresher Course also available) This course is scheduled on a per client basis and is often delivered on-site at the client s premises as a particularly cost effective way of training first aiders. This course is delivered to the previously applicable UK HSE Standard. Successful delegates receive a formal First Aid at Work Certificate which is valid for 3 years and qualifies the delegate as a First Aider. Please contact us for bespoke pricing depending on number of delegates and location. First Person on Scene (FPOS) Basic or Intermediate Scheduling Tailoring Accreditation This course is specifically designed for non medical personnel who may be first on the scene at an accident or medical emergency. It provides the delegates with the relevant skills and knowledge to enable them to provide immediate life support to casualties pending the arrival of qualified medical support and includes the management of Major Incidents. The FPOS course is suitable for individuals identified as potential First Aiders, particularly for Emergency Services Personnel e.g. fire brigade, police etc. or those operating in a hazardous environment. 4 days The First Person on Scene Courses are scheduled as and when required, please contact us for dates. Many organisations have both internal and industry standards necessitating a basic level of first response e.g. UK Fire & Rescue Services training policy includes a requirement for FPOS training. Delegates are issued with a First Person on Scene certificate, stamped by the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) which is valid for 3 years. Please contact us for bespoke pricing depending on number of delegates and location. 3 3
