4 Who are the qualifications for? We offer a range of qualifications for every stage of career development from Level 1 to professional diplomas. Level 1 qualifications For all employees. Formalises health and safety induction training with an externally accredited qualification. Level 2 qualifications For managers and supervisors, and for those with responsibility for carrying out workplace risk assessments. Certificate level qualifications For those with responsibility for aspects of an organisation s health and safety. Meets the academic requirement for IOSH membership (Tech IOSH). Diploma level qualifications For full-time health and safety managers. Meets the academic requirement for IOSH membership (Grad IOSH). An important step towards chartered status. This is a great way to ensure we can operate safely helping people in crisis. 8 British Safety Council International Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health An internationally-recognised qualification which is universally accepted as a badge of professionalism and commitment. In-company Public training Approved centre. Duration In-company and public training options 10 days Total recommended learning hours including self study 132 (60 classroom hours; self-study minimum 72 hours). Assessment and results Candidates sit two 90-minute examinations comprising a series of short-answer questions Examinations can be undertaken all year round at selected British Council offices worldwide Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by the British Safety Council. Results and certificates are issued within six weeks. Successful candidates receive a British Safety Council certificate. 9 British Safety Council International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health The International Diploma focuses on embedding health and safety into an organisation s culture and highlights the key role of communication in securing senior management commitment. An internationally-recognised, professional qualification for managers and practitioners with specific responsibility for health and safety in the workplace Meets the academic requirement for graduate membership of IOSH (Grad IOSH) Following the successful completion of a period of initial professional development, a graduate member may apply for chartered status (CMIOSH). Duration In-company and public training options six weeks Total recommended learning hours including self study 450 (210 classroom hours; self-study 240 hours). Assessment Unit 1 Examination Unit 2 Examination and assignment Unit 3 Assignment only. Examinations can be undertaken all year round at selected British Council offices worldwide Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by the British Safety Council. Results and certificates are issued within six weeks. Successful candidates receive a British Safety Council certificate. Who is it for? Health and safety professionals who wish to advance their professional career or undertake further postgraduate study. Content The International Diploma comprises three units, over a consecutive six week programme: Unit 1 Principles of health and safety management. Unit 2 Safeguarding people s health in the workplace. Unit 3 Promoting a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. 10 City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Accredited by City & Guilds, NVQs are one of the most popular methods of learning with candidates and employers alike as they demonstrate an individual s ability to carry out work-related tasks. Who is it for? The NVQ Certificate is designed for people who have an element of responsibility for health and safety within their role in the workplace. The NVQ is for team leaders, supervisors, safety representatives, managers and heads of department. Designed to assess and verify knowledge and competence in the practical application of occupational health and safety. In-company. Content The qualification consists of seven units. Five are mandatory and two can be chosen from four optional units. For more information on the units please refer to the NVQ standards. The NVQ is workplace based and time-flexible; with no formal examination, candidates are expected to complete a NVQ Certificate within 18 months, but will receive support for a two year period. Assessment To achieve the NVQ Certificate you must demonstrate competence and knowledge in criteria specified within each individual unit. This is achieved through a combination of written statements, evidence, workplace observations, witness testimonies, discussions and questions. Dedicated assessors will review each unit to ensure all requirements have been met before sign off. These are then passed to our internal verifier for further review. All seven units must be completed and a sample verified before the NVQ Certificate can be awarded. Successful candidates receive a City & Guilds certificate. 11 City & Guilds Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice Accredited by City & Guilds, NVQs are one of the most popular methods of learning with candidates and employers alike as they demonstrate an individual s ability to carry out work-related tasks. Who is it for? The NVQ Diploma is designed for health and safety practitioners who have the ability and scope to develop, implement, monitor and review policies and procedures in relevant health and safety management matters. In-company. Content This NVQ is designed to assess and verify knowledge and competence in the application and management of occupational health and safety. The qualification consists of ten mandatory units. Why is it important? This qualification is designed to assess and verify your competence and knowledge in the application of occupational health and safety management within the workplace, specifically: Promotion of health and safety policy Development and implementation of health and safety policy Developing individual and organisational competence in health and safety Identifying, assessing and controlling health and safety risks Developing and implementing proactive and reactive monitoring systems Developing and implementing emergency response systems. Assessment This qualification is workplace based and time flexible; with no formal examination, candidates will complete a NVQ Diploma within 18 months, but will receive support for a two year period. 12 City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector This course provides an introduction to basic practical teaching skills, principles and theory. Ideal for candidates that need skills to identify learning needs, plan for learning, engage learners who have differing characteristics and assess learning. Who is it for? The qualification is for learners who work, or want to work, as teachers or trainers. It is a mandatory qualification for those wishing to teach in the regulated education sector in England and is also widely recognised as the standard for those beginning to teach or train in all sectors. In-company. Content This qualification consists of the following units. Other units can be incorporated on request. 001: Roles, responsibilities and relationships in lifelong learning 002: Understanding inclusive learning and teaching in lifelong learning 003: Using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in lifelong learning 007: Principles of assessment in lifelong learning. Duration A five day course which can be delivered as a block in one week or split to suit you over an agreed period. Assessment Learners complete assignments and collate evidence relating to the requirements of each unit within a designated period of time following the completion of the course. This will include preparation and delivery of a 15 minute micro teach session during the course. Successful completion of the award is dependent upon this evidence being assessed and verified. 13 IOSH Working Safely A short course in the basics of health and safety, with e-learning or in-company training available for larger groups. It focuses on best practice rather than legislation, and is suitable for candidates from around the world, not just those from the UK Successful candidates are awarded a certificate from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) As well as traditional health and safety measures, the course covers pollution and how organisations can avoid creating it. In-company Public training E-learning. Who is it for? This is a short course designed for people at any level, in any sector. This course is about giving everyone a grounding in the essentials of health and safety. Content The course is arranged into five modules: 1. Introducing working safely 2. Defining hazard and risk 3. Identifying common hazards 4. Improving safety performance 5. Protecting our environment. Duration In-company and public training options a one day course The e-learning option four to five hours Total recommended learning six hours. Assessment In-company and public training options: Part 1: 10 question, multiple-choice assessment paper Part 2: Three hazard spotting exercises. E-learning option the course, 21 question assessment and hazard spotting exercise to be completed within five months of registration. Successful candidates receive an IOSH certificate. 14 IOSH Managing Safely This course is designed to help team leaders, supervisors, managers and heads of department effectively manage their teams health and safety. It provides the general knowledge and understanding required to manage key elements of health and safety in the workplace Practical, interactive teaching with an end of course assessment and a workplace based practical risk assessment project. Who is it for? The course is designed to give managers and supervisors all they need to know to help them manage health and safety in their teams. In-company Public training E-learning. Content The course is arranged into eight modules: 1. Introducing managing safely 2. Assessing risks 3. Controlling risks 4. Understanding your responsibilities 5. Identifying hazards 6. Investigating accidents and incidents 7. Measuring performance 8. Protecting our environment. Duration In-company options for three, four or five day course Public training option a four day course and a practical assignment to be carried out after the course in your own workplace E-learning option is made up of learning through the course and home study to equal the total recommended learning hours Total recommended learning 24 hours. Assessment In-company and public training options an assessment at the end of the course with 30 multi-format questions. Course project to be completed within two weeks of the end of the course. E-learning option the course, assessment and course project to be completed within five months of registration. Successful candidates receive an IOSH certificate. Who is it for? This qualification has been specifically developed for people working to international standards. Content This qualification comprises three units: Unit NGC1: Management of health and safety Unit NCC1: Managing and controlling hazards in construction activities Unit NCC2: Practical construction health and safety application carried out in a suitable construction workplace. 17 NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management Enables employees with responsibility for fire safety to contribute to the conduct and review of fire risk assessments and fire safety control measures. Helps you ensure that fire risks are minimised and that people are safeguarded in the event of a fire Gives you the know-how to avoid the damaging and sometimes catastrophic losses that result from fire. In-company Public training. Who is it for? This course is designed for those employees with fire safety responsibilities in the workplace. This would include managers, supervisors and anyone managing staff. It is also suitable for individuals moving into fire safety advisor roles. Content This qualification comprises three units: Unit NGC1: Management of safety and health Unit FC1: Fire safety and risk management Unit FC2: Fire safety practical. 19 NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety Designed specifically for those with safety responsibilities in the oil and gas industry. The qualification focuses on international standards and management systems, enabling students to effectively discharge workplace safety responsibilities both onshore and offshore Highlights the importance of process safety management in the oil and gas industry Provides learners with the knowledge and skills to assist with the management of health and safety during all aspects of hydrocarbon extraction, processing and storage activities. In-company Public training. Who is it for? The qualification is designed for management and staff who work within both the offshore and onshore oil and gas sector. There are no formal entry requirements, although knowledge and experience of working within the oil and gas sector would be a considerable advantage for learners.
