22 Difficulty in Renewing and Issuing Educator Certificates /i Certificate Renewals Due to problems with the online renewal process, TEA will consider as valid a teacher s certificate that is due for renewal between February 28, 2013, and October 31, 2013, but has not been renewed.. Through December 31, Please note that the educator s virtual certificate may indicate that it is inactive; however, based on statutory and rule authority, the agency considers a certificate to be valid during a delay that result from TEA processing issues. If not renewed by 12/31/13, certificate will become inactive. Certificates that are renewed past their original i six month renewal window will have a new renewal date. Out-of-State Teachers TEA will work with ISDs to expedite processing of needed reviews of credentials and one year certifications.

52 Fingerprinting SES Provider Background Checks and Fingerprinting It has come to the attention of the TEA that some districts in requiring that employees of an SES provider, serving as tutors and or recruiters coming in direct unsupervised contact with students, are only being submitted for name checks by the provider rather than being fingerprinted and submitted to DPS. While you may choose to require that the SES provider submit them for a name search through the company of your choice, you must also ensure that they are submitted to DPS. By state law, contracted employees who have the opportunity for direct unsupervised contact with students hired by on or after January 1, 2008 must submit to a national criminal history record information review (by fingerprinting) before being employed (TEC Chapter 22, Subchapter C). The results must be received through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Clearinghouse. This requirement applies to online tutors, as well. If you need additional guidance on background checks and fingerprinting of SES provider personnel, please contact Leticia Govea (Leticia.govea@tea.state.tx.us) or Becca Marsh (Becca.marsh@tea.state.tx.us).
